Describing the Fandom

Hope Glimmer

Recommended Posts

This Fandom seems to constantly beat itself up for not living up to its supposed values of "love and tolerance", but the fact is all fandoms are made up of people, and people are, well, people. There will always be good and bad people, wherever you go, but what's good in this fandom is REALLY good. There are many, many talented and pleasant/friendly individuals out there if you go to the right places. From my experience this forum has a pretty decent community so it's a good place to start.

@@Hope Glimmer,

Well I would say we are a diverse group here. People of all stripes, ideologies, and cultural backgrounds. However what we all have in common is a love for this show and a standard of respect and communal welcoming I have not seen in many other places on the internet.

Of course I am. I meant that the fact it will make you gay isn't that much of a bad thing.

Objectively, this fandom is filled with so much attention whoring and this fake sort of "niceness" that it sometimes manages to disgust me.

I've seen the straightest guys joining the fandom and becoming couples, and for the autism, well, majority of the fandom is just a huge cringe contest.

The last point is a good one. You will indeed meet all sorts of people with different opinions, especially the open minded.

You didn't have to edit it. I didn't see when you did so.

You can say America is even gayer because it allows stuff like gay marriage. But that doesn't make you gay. Neither does the fact I am an Ancient Greek make me gay. Heck I had a wife and children!

Actually I edit it to how I really felt initially and my true intent, what I edited out was more so a facade and is less honest.

Depends, some places you feel the show is loved by the majority and people enjoy of for the great show it is, go to Reddit or the forums, you get 50/50 pessimism and mehs, the ones who take the show far to seriously and expect game of thrones level stuff

And the ones who complain about the same topic ove r and over and over and over and over agai n (most I see is either Mary Sue talk, dues ex !machina talk, or "ERMERGERD CELESHIA SO STUPID" talk

MLP is way more enjoyable than Game of Thrones anyway. As for complaining, if a legitimate problem persists I see no reason to desist in criticising it.

@@Hope Glimmer,

People of all stripes

I see what you did there.

Anyway, I digress:

Based on my observations: this fandom has been generally sweet, kind, open minded, and diverse. Supportive. Less attack based than plenty of other fandoms and more welcome.

Are there bad apples in ponydom? Yes. Aren't there everywhere?

As far as myself: I've enjoyed the short time here enough to continue to comment on not just pony stuff but regular topics, because of the friendliness and openness about it. I've tried joining conversations in other fandoms, forums and the like and it seemed more exclusive and quick to attack differing opinions than this forum has been.

I dig y'all is what I'm saying.

Passionate, found something that's been lost from out childhood, and overall decent folks. Though, I keep expectations at check, as for many decent bronies and pegasisters out there, there are two rotten apples or so, just like every other fandom

Except usually it's not a problem, rainbow power is not a machina yet people complained HARD that it is

Also, complaining is useless unless you are offering a solution, which most of the time people don't they just "leave the fandom" over and over again

I believe that term you're looking for is deus ex machina. And rainbow power is a deus ex machina. The defenition of deus ex machina is "a plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly and abruptly resolved by the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability or object." And rainbow power fits into that defenition and is therefore a deus ex machina.

People who like to watch a cartoon series about colorful talking ponies. That's pretty much it. :P

Of course, as with every other group of people, there's a lot of variety. Some might be a bit too optimistic, others too pessimistic, some might be obsessed with the show, others might watch it only every now and again, and so on. My experience with it so far has been pretty good though!

I'm on mobile, don't feel like typing deux ex machina (that was exhausting) but it also needs to co e out of nowhere, rainbow power was built pretty much all season

This is true, the rainbow power concept was the basis of a season-long arc, but I think where the dues ex machina complaint enters is how quickly and suddenly it was used to pull off such a stunning victory against seemingly-insurmountable odds. At the 11th hour, when Tirek had consumed literally all of the magics, the tree of harmony lock box just BOOM spawns this new power that is apparently more powerful than the elements of harmony, the tree itself, and, because it was used to defeat Tirek so easily, was more potent than all of the magic of all ponies in Equestria including 4 effing alicorn princesses.

"Twilight's Kingdom" is enjoyable. It had to be a big episode so, in a way, it had to have a big finish, even if it looked a little hokey and felt too sudden. Meghan had been hyping the episode up all season, and it had big shoes to fill as far as promising a good conclusion to a good season as well as trying to follow up "Magical Mystery Cure" as what a "Wham!" Season finale should be. It's also highly contested because there are those leaps of logic, but the problems with the episode do not make it bad. The employment of the rainbow power acts like a dues ex machina, (though I must say I'm really tired of people using that term all the time), because of the all-powerful, game-changing, overwhelming nature of its effect. It's a god power, it's god acting out of the machine- it's a dues ex machina.

Bronies = Men and women who love a show about pastel colored ponies that talk about friendship.

How society sees bronies = Fat middle aged neck beards who live in their parent's basement and jerk off to horses all day

:P:D:)

Well, the box was built up during the whole season. The rainbow power just came out of nowhere and happened to be the answer to all their problems.

I would say that we get our love , appreciation and commit to the show via a fan base . The indivuiluism . Love. Sense of belonging and community . Plus the kindness and creativity . Will bring you into the fandom with open eyes and mind .
