So I'm taking the time to listen to some of the pop albums listed on itunes.

1432 - Katy Perry. Because this apparently needed a rerelease. It has extra songs on it that were apparently exclusive to certain vinyl variants. Now my hopes for her is she will take this chart tankage to heart and cease working with Dr Luke. Nobody should be working with Dr Luke. Smile was a great album that did poorly on the charts sure. But as she can see trying to recreate Teenage Dream by working with Luke did more harm than good.

That being said I still finally listened to each of the songs off this.

GIMMIE GIMMIE, Gorgeous, ARTIFICAL, TRUTH , I WOKE UP, HAS A HEART, OK  - Don't like these at all.

All the Love and NO TEARS FOR NEW YEARS - Not bad

Woman's World, Nirvana and Wonder - Is ok.

Crush - One of the better songs off the album.

I'm His, He's Mine - This ones not bad either. Video is a million times better than Woman's World. Doechii really makes this song.

Lifetimes - The best song off the album and should have been the lead. Not a fan of the video at all.

My personal feelings about her working with Dr Luke aside, it's a so-so album. She can do better. It's probably her worst album music wise. I wasn't going to buy it regardless because Dr Luke but I wanted to listen to it fully to see if it was as bad as what people were saying. While I feel like there is some over exaggeration on how bad it is, it is bad for her standards.

Listened to this at work.

Before that it was Powerslave. Would've gotten through A Matter of Life And Death too if an industrial grinder wasn't fired up and running for the last hour.

Faith No More's Angel Dust

Not going to post the album here as several track titles push the envelope.  Some swan on the cover, boy we are fooled by what these guys did beforehand:wau:  If only @Denim&Venöm has any thoughts of the album, I'd be intrigued to hear them.

I think last full album I put on was Sovran by Draconian 🤔 I loooove the doomy moody vibes and Heike has a god tier voice for it, band probably holds the crown of gothic death/doom ATM. Sweden can make pretty good metal sometimes when it's not Gothenburg melocheese :p

Mechina's most recent album, Bellum Interruptum. While it doesn't have a track as amazing as Praise Hydrus, the record overall is consistently great.

I listened to Alex G's "God Save The Animals" for... I dunno, probably the 10th time since it released in 2022? Definitely not my favorite album of his, mainly because I think a fair few of the songs are just misses or overly forgettable. It does have some great high points though, Blessing, Runner, SDOS and After All are all great songs and keep this album from just being mediocre.

Spoiler

Testing my memory here but I would like to say it was the album Berserker by Beast In Black.

Much like From Hell With Love I had already heard many tracks prior to listening to the album and did very much enjoy it.

The Morning Never Came by Swallow The Sun.

Dunno why the opening keys of the first track give me an existential crisis. They have a strange painful nostalgia attached to them.

NO TITLE AS OF 13TH FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD - Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Important album for the day, the poem in RAINDROPS CAST IN LEAD makes me want to weep.

I've been listening to - Cult of the lamb: hymns of the unholy(instrumental). Top 3 are Death, Famine, and Pestilence (in that order). I don't really like the lyrics that much on the regular album but the instrumental versions go hard.

I listened to Headlights by Alex G, which released tonight. I was a big fan of the three singles released ahead of the album so I had pretty high expectations for it. I would say they were half met. I was really hoping for a fully complete album from him, but this album suffers from the same issue almost all his previous albums have, which is just not having great consistency.

You’ll get hit with some absolute bangers (June Guitar, Is It Still You In There, Spinning) mixed in with middling songs that sound like something from a generic “low-fi indie songs” playlist on YT (Real Thing, Louisiana, Headlights). Which just doesn’t give you a ton of reason to go back and listen to the albums in full when you know only half the album is going to be worth listening to attentively.

There’s also Far and Wide on this album which doesn’t really fit into either category, it sounds like Alex trying to do his best Death Cab for Cutie/Ben Gibbard impression and I’m not sure it works that well. The instrumental on the song is nice, tho it feels a bit out place when compared to the lyrics and singing (minus the chorus).

This is probably his most “simple” album production wise but it’s still a far cry from something like Elliott Smith’s self titled where the primary instrument is only the acoustic guitar. Almost every song has some sort of electronic instrument in it and they all sound more “grand” and complex than almost any Elliott song. Which isn’t necessarily a good or bad thing, just a difference. I do like the simpler sound and think it suits him.

Overall a good album but nothing revolutionary or anything.
