rainbow rocks Why Do You Dislike Flash Sentry?

I dislike him because he's a factually-awful-quality character. This Gary Stu's mere existence is to be Twilight's love interest. But to make it worse, he's filler; cut him out, and nothing changes.

My whole analysis of why his character sucks says it best.

At this point, I kind of just like disliking him, and I don't otherwise see the appeal.  I jumped onto the anti-Flash bandwagon early on (in response to that forced romantic angle in EQG) and found it rather comfortable.

BUT, I'm not saying that everyone else can't or shouldn't like him.  My personal opinions and feelings about Flash shouldn't go towards deciding how anyone else feels about him.

Nah, his forced pairing didn't served anything, but I felt meh towards him rather than dislike.... until the waifu thief rage exploded, so over the top and silly that they made him one of my favorite characters thanks to them

He's just, well, there. The only point for him to be in the movies is to be Twilight's love interest, and his personality comes off as being more flat than a piece of paper. The most important thing he does in the movies, which is provide evidence that Twilight didn't destroy the stage props in the first one, could've easily been done by any of the others or even better been solved if Luna had common sense and realized the pictures were cutouts.

Hasn't this already been asked?

Because he's bland, generic and uninteresting. Him being paired with Twi feels very forced and cliche. It feels like Flash's only purpose is to be the love interest. Like he was grown out of a test tube and programmed for that very reason. That's not how relationships work. That's not how you get chemistry between two people.

It even feels out of character for Twi to like him. It's like she was put under a spell to like this stereotypical high school cool guy archetype. Give us some back story, give us some depth, have them be friends first, and add some dimension to his character. Then we'll talk. Yes, many background ponies don't have personalities either. But we as fans invent personalities for them. We never got to do that for Flash. The writers made him one dimensional, whether it was intentional or not. I actually liked it when he was snapping at Twi during RR. That showed depth to his character.

I don't really have a problem with Flash, per say. I just prefer that Twilight (and all the mane 6) not have permanent love interests. A crush that comes and goes is fine. But Flash kind of just lingers and he hasn't gone away. He's this perpetual love interest blot that can't be erased or forgotten. ^_^ He has no purpose beyond existing solely to sit on the shelf until the writers actually (God forbid) decide to use him. I admit that it is fun to trash talk him when he comes on the screen, lol. But this is the source as to why.

I don't dislike him. He's not my favorite either.

He felt like a toy placement in the first movie, and in the second one he was kind of a jerk, but by the third movie they succeeded in making his awkward Twilight obsession funny. Even Derpy tried to console the poor guy!

Mostly because he's boring and has no character outside of being a forced love interest.  He used to be my least favorite character but then another pony came by and now I'm not as hard on the guy. He's not great though and I really don't care for him still but he's not worst pony in my eyes anymore!

As other's have said, I mainly dislike him because he has no personality whatsoever. He's just a cardboard cutout that was mandated by some executive or other because a high school movie needs a love interest. I'll admit that Sunset started off like this as well, but as of RR she's one of my favorite characters. If Flash received some development I wouldn't mind him as much, although the rabid shipper in me will never really like him.

I dislike Flash Sentry because he is Flash Sentry.

Look at me all bold and stuff

Flash Sentry is the centerpiece of everything people dislike about EQG. He's generic, he's predictable, he's insignificant, he's unnecessary, and above all else his scenes are so goddamn boring to sit through. There's boy bands and stale bread out there that have more character than Flash Sentry. I like EQG unironically and I can't even think of a good argument for Flash Sentry; he's literally that one driver in front of you who won't make a turn and get you stuck in a red light even though there weren't any cars coming by.
