general Biggest waste of time you've ever put a lot of work into?

Heh, lol my first thought was actually an airport project for flight sim 2004. Nobody had yet developed a decent O’Hare scenery to reflect all the latest runway changes and whatnot (most were very outdated), so I spent a good month (about an hour a day, most days) starting from scratch at the default scenery.

And then some dude about a year later bested me with a much better upgrade. Why didn’t you spare me all the trouble and built that thing a year before :P ?

Hmm… I could say some friendships or relationships but honestly I’ve gotten something out of every long term friendship or relationship that’s ended. Either learning more about other people or just improving myself. So I wouldn’t consider that wasted.

I wrote a 100k+ word story that never got finished. That might’ve been a waste but it also helped me improve my writing skills immensely so idk if I’d say it was a waste either.

1k+ hours in War Thunder… yeah that’s probably a waste of time especially considering that only half of those hours were spent actually having fun :derp:

Felt that last one pretty hard. I've spent multiple thousands of hours on a singleplayer game to compete with others playing the same game, and felt like a pretty big idiot when I realized I was playing it for hours every day just for a small high of ranking higher than people instead of having fun.

Not a waste of time in the usual sense.  During the end of Spring, I have been making more strides in being physically active to get our of the pandemic laziness, then got a cold for 2 weeks.

Well keeping up much better this time.

"Biggest waste of time you've ever put a lot of work into?"

Quite a few deleted signatures and profile banners I've made felt like a waste of time when I figured out that I didn't like how they turned out.

All of the electronic devices that I've spent a while trying to fix only to find that it still doesn't work due to a catastrophic failure. My most recent example of this is a vintage 13-inch CRT TV that had suffered from an unexpected fall from the previous owner's stand. I spent a few days repairing its chassis PCB and cabinet only to find that it won't display an image at all. Upon close inspection of the CRT neck, I've discovered that the G2 pin of the CRT was disconnected from the cathode due to the impact that the set was subject to.

Videogames. The videogames and my dog where the only two things I could rely in the past 'cause all the bullying and house poblems.

Sadly, I ended adicted and when my pc broke before the pandemic (when started in China) and no pieces where aviable. 16 hours a day Playing almost non stop for 15 years or so.

It was a lose of time. But at the same time... Nothing I could do. If it wasn't by videogames and my dog, I won't be here writing. But now that videogames don't make me fel nothing anymore, I percieve them as a waste of time.

Life.

More serious answer--I spent almost a whole year sewing a bunch of outfits that I wanted to wear around, but never wore any of them, and most likely never will because I'm most likely never going to leave my house again... for... reasons.

It’s still War Thunder. Genuinely, I can say for almost all the other games that I have high hours in, I got something out of them. Friends, unique experiences, genuine fun. Not War Thunder tho, seeing the flashy numbers on screen gives you dopamine, that’s about it. I never made a single friend from it :sealed:. Despite this I still play it on and off, but not nearly as often as I used to.
