Now imagine what would happen if the following people disappeared from Equestria

 

All 5 Alicorn Princesses(Celestia, Luna, Cadance, Twilight and Flurry Heart)

 

The Bearers of Harmony(Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack and Fluttershy)

 

Twilight's assistant Spike the Dragon

 

Twilight's pupil Starlight Glimmer

 

Shining Armor

 

Sunburst

 

Hell, let's also throw Discord into the "Disappeared" pile as well.

 

 

How would all of Equestria cope without its Guardians of Harmony?  Would it survive?  Or would it collapse?

If ALL of them were gone, just take anything that happened in The Cutie Remark and multiply it ten-fold. In fact, the complete wasteland Equestria is most likely what would happen. Absolute nothingness.

Well unlike what happened with the Cutie Re-Mark, everyone in Equestria already knew about the current Bearers of Harmony, along with the recently reformed Discord, and their new allies.  The question is more of how would Equestria react if their protectors did disappear, and how would they cope?

There is a chance that Sunset Shimmer would get suspicious that Twilight wouldn't be answering her letters, and she might return to Equestria, in which case there would still be hope.  Otherwise, Equestria would be thrown into anarchy, and even Trixie would be able to take over.

Equestria has a pathetic military force. As proven in "The Cutie Re-mark", they're doomed to ruin without the mane six. It's unsettling really. Does the fate of their entire nation really depend on a mere six vigilantes? C'mon...

They'd be utterly finished. Equestria is almost entirely dependent on magical artifacts or designated heroes to do its fighting. Not even the Wonderbolts, the Royal Guard, or Shining Armor himself are competent enough to do the job. The closest thing we have is the Crystal Ponies powering the Crystal Heart, but without the heart, they're useless.

 

That's one thing that really sucks about the way this show develops its world. It's too bad "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" took place in a dream world, as it's the only time regular ponies actually took up arms against something.

I think that might be unfair. The Tree of Harmony blessed them to be heroes of Equestria and to be the ones to defend it in its modern times since I guess it considered Celestia unfit for the task for whatever reason.

 

But to answer the question, the heroes were invaluable in preventing the death of the tree which would have doomed Equestria and probably led to the desert bad future expressed in season 5 unless it was due to Discord's magic and in the OP, Discord was gone too. The fate of Equestria couldn't be good in any case without its protectors.

Yeah, that's my point though. How can nobody else be good enough to replace the mane six? And I don't only mean as element bearers, but as a force against evil. You know what I mean? You'd think the military would step up their game.

They should do more but it depends. They perhaps wouldn't be very effective against Nightmare Moon, Discord, et al.
