The season so far.

The premier was a dissapointment. The gift of maud pie was pleasantly surprising. Still FAR inferior to S5 so far as we get 2 "meh" episodes for the premier and one "good but not Great" episode for the next, compared to S5 having an incredibly good premier.

Can we please wait until more episodes come in? We're only up to 3 freaking episodes. No need to judge the season so damn early

If I am gonna judge just the first 3 episodes, I like them more than season 5 at this point. The premiere to me was far superior to season 5 and the Gift of Maud Pie was actually very enjoyable, though Twilight's Castle was a cute episode as well.

So far this season has been decent, but had a premiere that while good wasn't at the same level of something like Princess Twilight Sparkle and The Crystal Empire.

Also I really enjoyed Gift of The Maud Pie.

There isn't a lot to say about this season yet.

Hopefully it gets better from here.

"The Crystalling" was solid but not as good as "The Cutie Map". While it had strong performances from Starlight Glimmer and Sunburst and good background elements, it was dragged down by its reduced role for the Mane 6. A minor issue was the time-skip in Starlight's reformation, but it was more an issue with the Season 5 finale than this episode.

"The Gift of the Maud Pie" worked as far as comedy goes. It managed to wrangle three diverse personalities together to liven up what is one of the most commonly-adapted and well-worn stories in kids' television. The timing, storyboard, and animation work in this episode were superb in the raw emotion and energy they portrayed, even from Maud, although it did run the risk of souring some to Maud's comedic tendencies.

It's too early to judge the season as a whole, but I can make a few first impressions on the next few episodes.

After seeing the trailer for "On Your Marks", I am tempted to lower my expectations and label Dave Polsky's good writing from Season 4 a fluke, but I'll refrain from trashing it if the episode really impresses me. If the rest of the episode is anything like the preview clip, it will be "Appleoosa's Most Wanted" all over again, wasting a good story idea on shallow comedy.

"Gauntlet of Fire" could come full circle in redeeming Spike's treatment by the writers and narrative, continuing what the season premiere started, if done right.

"No Second Prances" - Absolutely no information about this episode is available. (Possible production issue?)

"Newbie Dash" is going to be a big one.

"A Hearth's Warming Tail", although I can't stand the unnecessary pun in the episode title, could possibly provide some good development and bonding between

Starlight and Twilight

.

newbie dash is probably the one that I'm most worried about. A dash wonderbolt episode is a long time coming... but that plot just sounds BAD. And I mean *REALLY* bad.

Also, calling no second prances as a starlight episode.

THIS.

We got a two parter and a single "normal" episode so far. Given how Two parters are often very hit or miss with the Fandom (especially since they 9/10 revolve around either twilight or starlight :P) so its rather unfair to judge the season when we've had ONE normal episode.

Basically ^this.

However, I think the good has still outweighed the bad by at least 3:1, so:

Zero out of ten. Worst season i have watched. It's proof that Friendship is Magic has jumped the shark. They ruined it.

Still 23 episodes to come, though. ;-D

I'd say its a pretty solid start. Its a lot more low key than other seasons as there wasn't a villain anywhere in the premier, but still pretty solid. I loved gift of the Maud Pie, especially for the world building plushie scene that pretty much hints at the other kinds of non ponies in their world, including Giraffe which I've been hankering for for quite some time.

I would need to wait for the mid season finale  to make a judgment. So far we started out with a mediocre opener and a good 3rd episode though.

Better than the majority of Season 5, but not really leaving a big impression on me so far.

Having seen the premiere and both regular episodes to date I think overall it's still the weakest season thus far. However, On Your Marks was an actually good episode on the level of earlier seasons, so if that trend continues this season might turn out to be good after all.

  • 5 weeks later...

I would rate season 6 as pretty good so far. The opening was not bad and the third episode was really funny and entertaining. Episode 4 was okay and the rest of the episodes that have come out were really good. I'm really looking forward to what's coming up next.

Season 6 has been going okay at them moment. I still gotta see the remaining episodes to make a proper verdict. There were a few episodes that stood out for me like the premiere and Gauntlet of Fire, so I guess it wouldn't be as bad as season 3 was.
