How is it so far?

Will it last, or will the novelty wear off soon?

So far it is pretty good. I'm certain that it is better if you live in an area with anything nearby. The novelty hasn't worn off of Ingress yet, so I bet this will last quite some time too once they work out the issues and maybe add a bit more. Also, once gyms are fully set up it will definitely get more entertaining.

Sitting here in the UK patiently waiting for it to come out here...

Shame I have iOS, I would have just sideloaded the APK

It wouldn't work anyways since it's based upon location.

So far I've caught a Paras that was on my desk and nothing else. I'm not exactly in the mood to be walking around outside at 5am looking for pokemon

How on earth was a Paras on your desk? It must've found a way in or something.

Anyway,s I'm also gonna get Pokemon GO and see if there are any Pokemon roaming around in my house.

Thus far my collection includes:

1 Goldeen

1 Eevee

1 Bulbasaur

1 Meowth

1 Caterpie

1 Pidgey

2 Rattata

3 Weedle

I caught these all from the safety of my home, not needing to leave my room. :3

Seems accurate. I live right next to marshlands, so water-type and grass-type are accurate for this instance. I wonder if I drive to the beach will things change?

"Time is just an illusionary factoid that all natural things are bound to. It has the power to crumble even the mightiest of mountains into little more than dust, yet if it is an illusion, why is this so? Because people waste a lot of time, only wishing they had more. Little do people realize an inescapable fact: Time governs those who wish they had more of it. By wishing you could use it better, you govern time, and you can get all the time you'll ever need." — Starfall, Quillwaver

If the game makes its way to this country soon enough, I'll be able to try it with my best friend! It would be great to roam different places in hopes of encountering some pokemon. It would work as a good reason to go outside too!

My mom says going too far away from our house would cause us to lose the wireless connection, and we would have to pay extra for that.

What do I do?

Does the game require an online connection?

Yes. Essentially you will need it on either a phone with active service, or a tablet with cellular service.

Eh, the concept is alright, I guess, but the game just seems rather uninteresting. I guess it's cool if you're going for walks or something, but who's gonna keep their phone out at all times? Not me, I take a walk to get some fresh air and exercise, I don't want to pull my phone out to catch digital pokemon.

Also, there are the typical dumb microtransactions attached to most mobile free to play games like this. I wouldn't play this even if I were a hardcore Pokemon fan.

Yeah it's very bare bones at the moment. I feel like right now it's in "beta" because it's lacking a lot of features, including tutorials and ways to play without having to walk everywhere every day. Like today... It's 91 degrees outside, I'm not going out there to catch pokemon.

Speak for yourself, my friend. I caught a Pidgeotto, female Nidoran, and enough Eevees to give my the candy to evolve one.

Definitely still rather in beta mode.  Though don't feel at all that a way to play that doesn't require travel is necessary- it seems the point of Go, actually.  Games have always kept players inside, frequently very isolated..  Now Pokemon Go is getting longtime trainers out into the world!  Have seen already heaps of praise for this on reddit and twitter- trainers who've never met meeting in their towns at Pokestops..  Just think of how things may change.  "Complimentary Pokestop" at cafes.  bc they could charge you to loiter by requiring a purchase of coffee.  It's interesting, whether good or bad.  Games become more life-like, VR becomes more accessible, now games take us back into the real world.  think it's cute.

If only we could trade. I've been searching for an Eevee ever since I got the game, but the closest I got to an Eevee was being near one for about a minute. I have plenty of Kakunas, Venonats, and Ratatas to go around.

It's given me some ideas for some interesting programming concepts, but it's more because of the things they've done wrong. I already had a bad taste in my mouth because they didn't release to Canada despite releasing to the US, but upon further inspection, it doesn't really look like something I'll enjoy. The collection aspect is interesting, but that's pretty much all I can say about it. It could have been so much better.

I haven't even had to really travel. All I had to do was spend a shift at work. I swear new Pokemon popped up everytime I opened up the app on my phone. I didn't even have to walk around the workplace much.

But yes, it is interesting that there is a game that is about actually getting people outside. I noticed it also puts stops at churches...

...Oh. I see what this game is all about now. :okiedokieloki:

Got it, and it's been actually pretty fun. I've already seen a few people walk by my house trying to get a pidgey or someone. So far i've got a Spearow, Rattata, and Pidgey. It's just like the real pokemon games, I keep on getting commons.

Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.

Would it work on a bus? :P or do you have to walk around?

It does work on a bus, as long as you react quick enough when a Pokémon appears. Once you've tapped it and the battle starts, it doesn't matter if you get away from it. Pokéstops andgyms are another story though. You have to be very quick for those.
