How does one level up their Pokemon in that game if you get knocked out completely at a gym?

First off, the way you "level up" your pokemon is taht you need Stardust and a particular type of candy associated with the pokemon you want to level up. Then, just select your pokemon that you wanna level up, then select the "Level Up" option, should it be available. How does one get candy? Well, you get 3 pieces of Pokemon candy for catching the associated pokemon, ie 3 Rattata candy for catching a Rattata, and you get one candy for transferring a pokemon. Stardust, on the other hand, is earned by either catching pokemon, using Pokestops, or evolving Pokemon (which also requires candy, depending on the evolution stage the pokemon is at). Also, when it comes to powering up your pokemon, there's a limit to how much you can power up your pokemon. The maximum limit can be exceeded by leveling up your trainer. However, there will be times taht when you level up, you'll also find pokemon in the wild with very high CP values, so youy may wanna literally "Catch 'Em All".

As far as healing your pokemon, simply go to your bag by pressing the pokeball at the center of the bottom of the screen and select the bag icon. go to your revives first, then revive any pokemon you have that need revival. Then, select some potions and select pokemon that need healing.

Those blue towers (without a pokemon on top) are called pokestops. You have to be close to it, and once you're close enough, the "box" turns into a pokeball shaped logo (you'll notice it) which you can tap. Just swipe the logo left or right several times and you'll get some items. You can reuse it after 5-10 minutes

Some commercial centers have LOTS of these pokestops, so those are a "must-go-to".

GREAT. I'll be sure to keep that in mind if I'm low on balls xp

A question for those who have it: is anyone having problems with the servers right now?

You too? So I'm not the only one getting screwed over by this game. That's comforting. I thought that it was someone who hijacked my account somehow by using my email.

I'm in EXTREME jealousy honestly, I wish it would come in Canada.

It is in Canada now, actually. It released here officially on Sunday. It's just a matter of logging in when the servers aren't down.

Not just you and me, it's happening all over. Both Niantic and The Pokemon Company even decided to delay the release of Pokemon Go in Japan by a day because of server overload.

I can't really blame Niantic though. They're a small company comprised of only 50 people, and Nintendo isn't offering any form of assistance to them (so I've heard). So of course they're gonna have loads of trouble trying to keep this up. The best thing we can do is wait and hope they sort this out by tomorrow.

Give them some time, they've been struggling to keep the servers working since its release due to too many players playing it, completely annihilating the server capacities. There are so many bugs and the game keeps freezing even when the servers are somewhat working. Eventually the initial hype will fade and Niantic will finally release updates to make the game more enjoyable than it is now. I've had a lot of fun even while the conditions weren't optimal and I haven't even played the game with friends or really made new friends or talked to strangers.

Depends on one critical thing with mobile games: UPDATES!!!!

This. There are obvious updates that have either been promised or hinted at that will make this last quite some time.

  • Trade system (promised)
  • Events (hinted)
  • More Pokemon (expected)

Obviously stability should be priority 1, but that goes without saying. More granularity on Pokemon growth, possibly a better tracking system, and perhaps a tiered gym system for new players who may never catch up now (though this is iffy). Niantic has a lot of games and history that they can draw off of to improve the game and keep it interesting.

How come when you open up poke radar it doesn't show any of the Pokemon around you? I've deleted it and reinstalled it a bunch and opened Pokemon go with it but still no Pokemon on the poke radar?

More Pokemon have been promised. It was asked around 11:30 in this video, and answered something like "eventually we'll be able to catch them all".

I'm waiting. It's been 16 years since I last had a game with only generation one Pokemon. I have so many I love in the later generations, it's boring only seeing the first generation's Pokemon.

Honestly as I said before and after more time with the app... I am pretty disappointed with it. The progression system requires you catching the same pokemon over and over and over. To level up a rare pokemon you have to catch that rare pokemon several times over. It's very tedious even compared to the handheld games. On top of that, the poor quality of the app is pretty evident. They can promise features, updates, etc. in the future all they like, but so much is missing even from the advertisement for the app.

  • No way to trade pokemon. One of the most core features of the franchise which is what it was marketed with, the social aspect. Considering this is a mobile game, the lack of the social aspect is astounding.
  • No friend system. Again: social aspects completely absent from the game.
  • Virtually no information is given to the player. A lot of the game is going online and looking up how most of the stuff works and even then, no one is entirely sure.
  • Pokemon tracking is virtually impossible to understand. You just walk around and maybe sheer luck will kick in.
  • No proper battle system, only gyms, which some people don't live anywhere near.
  • Game isn't very forgiving to people who live in areas where pokestops/gyms aren't close by.
  • No way to really play just sitting at home. While I get the point of the game is exercise, walking a few miles a day isn't for everyone and some people physically can't. A way to play from the comfort of your own home would be nice. The walking aspect should be something you get BONUS rewards for, not the entirety of the game.
  • App freezes a lot.
  • App crashes a lot.
  • Servers are down frequently.
  • When the app crashes sometimes your catches are not saved.
  • Some pokemon are literally just designed to waste your pokeballs. Zubat comes to mind.

Ultimately... It's almost very nice, but it falls short in so many areas that I can't see myself extensively using it. It just doesn't do what it should do, and it doesn't work a lot of the time.

Right, the leveling/evolving system is just.. bad. My starter Squirtle is still a Squirtle that hasn't been able to be leveled up. Heck, all of the Pokemon I really want aside from the Eevee evolutions are stuck unleveled because I can't run into them again. =(

If they could find another way, I think many of my complaints with the game would be answered.

Congratulations, Pikachu just has to be one of the cutest! What egg did it hatch from?

This post also reminded me about my unexpected Pikachu - we were visiting our summer cottage that is quite deep in the woods which means that there aren't too many pokemon nearby. But then I used an incense and a Pikachu appeared. I'm not sure if it was because of the incense or because I saw it on the nearby list. It was such a pleasant surprise either way.

I also caught two Clefairy and a Geodude from this house just a while ago, which is nice.  ^_^

I think it was the first Egg I've obtained.
