How does Fluttershy make money?

Rarity makes dresses. Rainbow Dash used to be a weather pony and is now a Wonderbolt. Pinkie Pie works at a bakery. Applejack runs an apple farm. Twilight probably had a full scholarship and got spending money from Princess Celestia in addition to being a librarian prior to becoming a princess. But I can't think of a single example of Fluttershy earning money. Is she on disability or something?

I'm pretty sure she's not a vet. I suppose an animal shelter makes sense, but you would think there would be a law saying there needed to be more ponies working there.

I would've previously suggested her parents still supported her, but I'm not sure about that now. That episode with Zephyr Breeze was kind of flawed when you think about it, considering Fluttershy doesn't have any apparent job or source of income herself...

Ponyville has a vet that we've seen. Fluttershy ikely runs a pet care service, as well as operating as sort of a animal diplomat paid by the town. You know ... Uncooperative beavers and such.

I'm having the same thoughts. Fluttershy understands and communicates with animals better than anypony else. She would have enough patience with them to peacefully deal with them when they get out of hand.

 

Perhaps the government also employs Fluttershy as a sort of animal welfare specialist. She keeps the animals happy and peaceful in exchange for living expenses. She earns more bits in her spare time by pet-sitting and putting on performances with her songbird choir.

This is one of the big mysteries of MLP, but my top two grades would be a pet day care or an animal shelter. You might interpret "May the Best Pet Win!" to suggest that she sells pets to ponies, but it's really hard to say for certain.

She owns her cottage, and she takes care of a small number of animals which produce barterable goods: Eggs from her chickens, wool from her sheep, honey from her bees, ect.

Its not much, but her Monetary costs in life are basically "Animal food, me food", and so she probably goes into town, baters her eggs and honey for a few bits, and then uses that to skate by.
From Putting your hoof down we can see that she is NOT financially well off, and this kind of synchs up well with her being a subsistence level individual.
