So what is her original name? What should I call her now?

Ah! I thought DJ Pon3 was a real person and a composer of the MLP:FiM fan music. Now I know DJ Pon3 is a stage name.

Officially, the character is named "DJ-Pon3". If you want to think of her as "Vinyl Scratch", you need to head into the endless desert of fanfiction and accept that the official name is a stage name (never yet made canon), and that she also has a personal birth name, the aforementioned "Vinyl Scratch".

Yeah, DJ-Pon3 is her stage alias, and her name is Vinyl.  Technically, her only canon name is DJ-Pon3, as that's the only name that's appeared on the show.  According to the wiki, both names were fan-given, which I didn't know.  I thought Hasbro invented DJ-Pon3.  So, apparently, fans invented both, and Hasbro just picked that one to use.  I find it odd that they didn't go with Vinyl, since that one is an actual pony name, and not just an alias.  I don't know why they didn't just make both canon.  They made up a ridiculous, implausible, off the wall story to make Bon Bon and Sweetie Drops canon; they couldn't have just had Octavia say, "Hey Vinyl," in their house?!
