What do you like about the Internet?

I was just thinking about how cool the Internet is.

I can post pictures, talk to strangers around the

world, research pretty much anything, read the

news, watch videos, and a million other random

things!

And this is all relatively recent, that makes it even cooler.

Because you couldn't do any of those things pre-internet?  :please:

I like that, no matter how weird your background might be, there's always gonna be someone out there on the internet to empathise with you. I like that it brings people together, even if it usually is just to bond over a silly meme of a cat.

Its where I met my best friends, its where I started a possible YouTube career, its an escape from my life, its where I was helped, and helped others with depression, and most importantly its where I met one of those best friends who I helped with her depression, and is now my girlfriend.

The internet is an amazing place, and I'm nothing without it.

The equalizing of influence that people can have. There's an idiot online with like 45,000,000 who follow him and all he is is just 1 idiot playing video games. He doesn't have a mega business nor giant role in any government. He's just a dude playing with an entertaining toy and entertaining viewers too. Almost anyone can become someone significant. Anyone can jump onto the stages of Youtube, Twitch, Twitter, and whatever else is there and try doing whatever they want for many people to enjoy. Anyone can become successful. It just takes luck, talent, and determination. There's so much less emphasis on pre-established success than other aspects of the real world

Another post where I will have to explain everything in dot points, but I digress. What I like about the internet is:

  • I can be sure I have the freedom to speak my mind and, even though plenty of my ideas and opinions can and will get criticized, the chances of me being censored are very, very unlikely
  • I can meet new friends with similar interest to me
  • The internet and word of mouth is like, the most perfect combination ever, and if it weren't for hearing the honest opinions of people on the internet on the topic of many movies, tv shows, games, other websites, etc., I would never have got into a large portion of the things I'm into (I actually trust word of mouth a lot more than I trust traditional advertising)
  • I can learn a lot of new things that I might never have learned before
  • The internet is the largest shopping center ever, filled with everything you could possibly ever want
  • With enough effort, luck, passion, and determination, you could become successful
  • MEMZ
  • If I want to watch or listen to a TV show, movie or song I when I feel like it I can through services like YouTube and Netflix (and similar services), and I'm no longer tied to the schedule of some TV channel or radio station (nor will I have to deal with cable/satellite TV bills)

tl;dr: the internet is the best invention in the world

Staying in touch with friends and family, Amazon, and naughty stuff; the big three.  Some of you (and you know who you are) likely already thought of the last thing and just didn't say it.

It would have to be all the wealth of knowledge that is instantly accessible. I was around before the internet was made public and I remember how much of an effort it used to obtain information without the ease of the internet. If I needed to research something than I would have to find and use a library to obtain the info. Also I remember growing up as kid playing the first Nintendo console If I got stuck in a game and did not know what to do I would have to call a tip line where You have to pay by the minute. The only other option was to wait patiently for my Nintendo Power magazine to come out with the answer. Things are so much easier now and that is awesome.

There are just soooooooooooooooooo many things I cherish about the internet and I try to remind myself to be thankful for it.

The internet allows me to: Meet and chat with new people, chat with my wonderful boyfriend, watch videos that I truly enjoy, look up all sorts of things related to my enjoyments, discuss things like my joys and whatnot, shop online with extreme convenience, play games online, buy games digitally, listen to all sorts of music and discover new music too, share the signatures I have made with everyone for them to use freely, and so much more beyond that. The internet is just wonderful. It really is. <3 Without it, my life would be a lot different and honestly, a lot worse.

Interaction with things - whether it's a game or a forum like this, it makes me happy that such advanced things can be made! There's the bad and the good, but you gotta find what you like, if you catch what I'm saying.

The internet is a phenomenal tool if used properly. What I love most about it is the anonymity, and ease of communication. As someone with social anxiety, I appreciate the cloak of a screen when introducing myself to someone, or just having a friendly conversation. I don't have to worry about my appearance, and I don't have to worry about instantly coming up with a response. I can express myself more on here through posts, status updates, profile avatars, and so on, which you can't always do in real life. The internet connects me with people I would have never met otherwise, and it introduces me to new cultures, ideas, and friendships. I've talked to people from Germany, Czech Republic, Canada, and all kinds of other places that are fascinating to learn about. Without the internet, none of this would be possible.

The internet is very handy! Here are a few of the things I like about it:

-Ability to get the news instantly

-Makes researching a LOT easier

-Meme sharing

-Ability to connect with people from around the world who you wouldn't ordinarily meet (and to keep in touch with those you already know)

-I much rather prefer the ease of online applications!

-Watching movies and tv shows on demand instead of going out to the rental store or waiting for a rerun on TV

  • 3 years later...

- Research and gaining knowledge is easier, as there are multiple sources of information that can be easily accessed.

- Communication and making connections with your friends is make easier because of sites like Twitter and Facebook.

- I can listen to tons of music and songs because of sites on the internet.

- I can be in fandoms like MLP and see tons of fan-made content on the internet

Like I can't even imagine what the last fifteen years of my life would have been like if not for the internet.

The first thing it did for me that I was very happy for is allowing me to be open and be myself. When I first came out I was rejected but was able to find a place online and was able to make it through those tough times. Now I have support IRL, including now from my family, but it was rough getting here, and I have the internet to thank for keeping me together.

The second thing I love about the internet is the wealth of knowledge contained. Also the fact that getting online and joining forums exposed me to the world and more viewpoints. Namely I have the internet to thank for me coming to the recognition that I am an atheist. I'm also not sure how it would be with woodwind instruments and I if I hadn't found the internet. I was a brass player and incredibly ignorant of any instruments in band beside the ones I sat closest to. lol Me becoming interested in the bassoon was a combination of both IRL and online.

Lastly, entertainment. The internet has revolutionized entertainment. I can discover/try new music for free with no limits. Pre-internet (and pre streaming era), music was so hard to discover... Thus I only knew what was on the radio. And in order to get access to the songs you like, you had to buy entire albums and you had to put them in clunky CD players. Things are soooo much better now. Also for TV shows/anime/movies. Without the internet, I wouldn't have seen 99% of anime I've seen, and I also wouldn't have watched a lot of the TV shows I have watched either. It's so incredibly convenient. I know that streaming services are becoming spread out now thanks to corporate greed, but still.
