Silver Letter 1,832 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 I think censorship is by and large ridiculous. Just getting rid of a word doesn't protect anybody. All it does is assume that the use of said word in a fictional setting will somehow affect people in real life. It is as if they can't tell the difference between fiction and reality. Clod 8,295 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 Canadians are too nice, they can't deal with the word "loser" A lot of things are censored in a lot of places, even for the stupidest things imaginable. This is just another example.

Hazard Time 1,127 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 Honestly, if anyone's at fault, it's most likely the network running that episode. Canada may be different, but when 4Kids censored all guns in the American run of the Pokemon anime, that was a choice on the part of 4Kids, not the US government. In either case, I think this is simply a case of over-bearing network executives who think that kids are all fragile idiots who burst into tears at the slightest sign of negativity. 1 Roleplaying for Eight Years and Counting! Hard to believe, even if true. Executives usually care only about their bottom line and feelings don't equate into that. Really, if TV executives wanted, they could manipulate children to feel whatever they want about those things. They have even more power than schools do. Silver Letter!!! Really, if TV executives wanted, they could manipulate children to feel whatever they want about those things. They have even more power than schools do. Another way to look at it, then, is that the executives are trying to meet their bottom line by making the show as inoffensive as possible. It might not be the kids who are offended, but most definitely any overbearing helicopter parent who thinks that exposing their child to any sort of negativity will turn them into a terrible person. The executives would then simply be maximizing their viewer base. Roleplaying for Eight Years and Counting! List of All My Active OCs

Deae Rising Shine~ 57,363 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 In most other countries, apple cider is changed to apple juice, because cider usually has alcohol in it And if you guys wonder about loser in canada, did you looked up, what in Season 1-3 in japan got all changed or cutted out? EmployeeAMillion 70 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 So what, do they replace it with another, less "offensive" word (eg "Not so bad? Why they're a bunch of meanypantses!"), cut it out entirely (eg "Not so bad? Why they're a bunch of …") or place that memetic censor sound over it (eg "Not so bad? Why they're a bunch of [beep]!"), which inadvertedly makes it sound even worse for older viewers?

I actually found a previous topic on this from 2012 https://mlpforums.com/topic/2327-why-do-we-get-screwed-in-canada/ Apparently, they just cut the "losers" voice lines out. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 Amazing how whatever network is in charge of this decision is trying so hard to protect the poor, fragile, weak little children, and waiting for them is a world of hatred, disgust and horrible people. 1 Redeem me into childhood. PinkiePie97 913 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 In Canada, MLP airs on Treehouse TV, which is a preschool network. Maybe they're worried kids that age would start calling people losers? 1 Cartoon Info - A blog where I post info on cartoons I'm interested in writing about. Follow me on Twitter and Tumblr. Azureth 687 December 10, 2016 Author Share December 10, 2016 Isn't MLP primarily made in Canada? Seems kind of ironic. https://youtu.be/QtRWWmHNsvw?t=3m58s Wow, talk about jarring censoring.

AlbaTross 1,586 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 As I tend to watch the show online initially, particularly when the livestream airs if I'm able to catch it, I see the unaltered version of the episodes. I don't recall any censorship on the DVDs, so it must just have to do with the network. I only know about this stuff through poking around the wiki, and through Moliminous's recent vid. Tropical Melody 7,472 December 10, 2016 Share December 10, 2016 Which reminds me, here's list I've been able to compile of eps that were not transmitted this year by the TinyPOP channel on UK Freeview. NB: TinyPOP is for very young kids, so possible reasons might be cos some of the eps might be too scary, or the kids wouldn't really understand what's going on in the plot. Try to draw your own conclusions. Not on tinyPOP channel:S4 E7. Bats!; S4 E12. Pinkie Pride; S4 E13. Simple Ways; S4 E18. Maud Pie; S4 E20. Leap of Faith; S4 E21. Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3; S4 E23. Inspiration Manifestation; S4 E24. Equestria Games; S4 E25. Twilight's Kingdom Part 1; S4 E26. Twilight's Kingdom Part 2; S5 E9. Slice of Life; S5 E13. Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep; S5 E15. Rarity Investigates!; S5 E24. The Mane Attraction.TBH it seems the last 4 eps of season 4 were just junked as tho they had run out of time and needed to start showing season 5 in that slot? Some things I could understand like Leap Of Faith, immitable behavior? I.e. bad idea to jump off a tall tower into a bowl of water? Ditto Maud Pie, dangerous adventure playground ending with hazardous pile of rocks, do not try this at home. Bats!? Cos luvly fluffy Fluttershy becomes a monster? Do Princesses Dream Of Magic Sheep, scary and too weird and confusing? 1 REDWINGS HORSE SANCTUARY www.redwings.org.uk

Also, I think you were not so serious but I truly hope that people don't actually think that being nice is related to pretending that certain words don't exist. Our government is no more likely to enforce censorship than the U.S.'s, and this is definitely a case where any censorship would HOME from the network or the distributor. Steve Piranha 29,497 December 11, 2016 Share December 11, 2016 So I watched a video of times MLP was censored, and one that stuck out to me was that in Canada, the word "loser" was censored out, can any Canadians here confirm? First time I've known about the supposed censorship in.... probably a year or so ; but that's been rumored since forever. I can't confirm though, as I haven't watched it myself. Maybe for canadies is a strong word, because when Pinks had her breakdown, her rocky hallucination called the other ponies losers, and Pinks at first responded that it's a little strong (remember most of the dub is in Canada). It's kinda silly really, as the silence of the word makes one think they're saying "fuck" Sig by Discords
sweetolebob18 728 December 18, 2016 Share December 18, 2016 Censorship is often ridiculous. Some examples I've heard of A lot of Dr Seuss is banned in China In the1950s, Robin Hood got banned in places in the USA. He robbed from the rich & gave to the poor. Clearly, he advocated the redistribution of wealth & was a proto Communist. One of Frank Zappa's albums was banned. Let's just say, if you're going to ban stuff, Frank would be a good place to start. However, this was a 100% instrumental album -no words. This led Frank to say "Apparently, the lyrics were obscene but not heard" So, yes, I believe you. Lil Pip 775 December 18, 2016 Share December 18, 2016 They just don't want kids using it irl, but if their parents taught them its a bad word they would not use it, or if they get in trouble for using it explain to them why it was wrong. Censoring it is just playing it up for the parents and marketing.
