ManaMinori 4,146 January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 I know pony- as it is now, isn't hot in Japan, but why is that? There's no real reason why it CAN'T BE. anine, however, in both Japan, and the states, is pretty big. I have been dying for an MLP anime for forever, and it doesn't necessarily have to be FiM. It could be a spin-off, (like Magical Milky, a g1 spin-off for Japan was) yet still a product of generation 4. What do you guys suppose such a spin-off would have, for it to be a success in Japan? 2 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub

ManaMinori 4,146 January 3, 2017 Author Share January 3, 2017 I don't watched anime no more so nope, Why do we need a MLP Anime? That would be terrible.but there are thousands, millions that DO watch anime. Why would it be horrible? Just because it exists? cuteycindyhoney 13,325 January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 MLP is already an anime. Anime is a Japanese term derived from the English word animation. 1 Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!

takai 1,060 January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 Certain shots from Equestria Girls have clearly been anime influenced, like Twilight's transformation back from Midnight Sparkle. I swear there was a few more shots from other movies too, I just can't remember. I know MLP still has a following in Japan, especially if you follow artists on Pixiv where there's plenty of pony art. It's unfortunate that it didn't get off the ground like Hasbro had hoped so. Perhaps the fact that certain songs weren't translated turned kids off? It's hard telling. But there's still definitely a following over there.
TBD 17,265 January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 (edited) I would be thrilled to see that happen. Black Sabbath 2,487 January 3, 2017 Share January 3, 2017 I'd laugh at how desperately Hasbro would be for trying to target an audience who obviously aren't interested.

Ganondorf8 11,558 January 4, 2017 Share January 4, 2017 Some Japanese artists have drawn Equestria Girls characters in anime form, such as Uotapo for instance, so if they were to create an MLP anime based on her style, then it would be entirely doable. I actually have a copy of that manga. I signed up for an Amazon Japan account to get it. I still haven't finished it though, mostly because my Japanese needs some work... I don't know if an anime is strictly necessary though. If anything I'd like to see the Japanese dub of the series continue, as to my understanding it stopped after season 2, unless that has changed since I last checked. There's still apparently a dedicated fandom in Japan that watches English episodes the show subtitled in their language, but it would be nice to be able to hear more songs in Japanese. Oh well, at least we have that manga written by the authors of the Legend of Zelda manga.

I didnt know that, but i bet it would sound a lot cooler having the songs in japanese. so the manga, does it have it own stories or it just the same as the episodes? To my understanding the season 1 songs are the English songs but subtitled, and so are one or two from season 2, but I think most of the season 2 songs are in Japanese. I have yet to confirm that myself mind you so take that with a grain of salt. The Japan exclusive manga has original stories, and Japanese style art, and it's in full colour. It only has 86 pages, some of which are taken up by ads, among other things, but it's decent enough. It somehow features a two-page spread for each of the mane six with a background on them and a short strip, a three page story featuring each of the mane six, one longer story of about 15 pages, a six page story and two shorter stories, each a few pages long. If you can't read Japanese I think you can find translated scans of some of the stories online, but I don't think the entire thing has been translated. I believe there was a site dedicated to just such a project but I don't know if it ever got around to finishing it.
Nerdy Luigi 2,065 January 4, 2017 Share January 4, 2017 Hasbro would never release one because Anime's don't usually have toy lines, so less money. Also, the art style would alienate the target audience.

Sovereign Leader Rarity 12,018 January 29, 2017 Share January 29, 2017 (edited) No, changing it into an anime is just silly and unessacary. It would effectively kill the identity that it has been trying to build up for 7 years now. Anime is popular here, so what's stopping this style from being popular in Japan? Plus, I don't really care for anime myself. Edited January 29, 2017 by Rarity the Supreme
Tropico 226 January 29, 2017 Share January 29, 2017 (edited) i would like a MLP:FiM spin-off anime. specially if its an equestria girls magical anime like sailor moon. actually the lasts two EG movie feels like that sometimes. and the legend of everfree and its ending imo its crearly a step to make a sailor moon EQ tv show/movies. hope the 3 specials we get this year are more like that. but if its moe anime (them acting like "dumb babies") i wouldnt like that. zero Edited January 29, 2017 by Tropico

Plonkett 345 February 25, 2017 Share February 25, 2017 If there was an MLP anime from Japan, this is how I feel it would turn out. Firstly, when Lauren Faust was first on board with FiM, she intended it to be an action/adventure story, as opposed to a slice of life/comedy series. That is exactly what the anime would be like, being mostly action and adventure, with occasional SoL and comedy in the mix, as well as dark and emotional moments. The anime would be animated with a software called Retas, which is the industry standard software for 2d animation in Japan. The anime would come in numerous formats: TV shows, movies, OVAs, TV specials, short films, and ONAs (Original Net Animation). The main TV series would have an interminable run, similar to shows like DBZ, Naruto, One Piece, and Pokémon. The main arcs would be the action/adventure stuff, along with filler arcs being SoL and comedy stuff. Occasionally, there will also be special episodes that are not part of the main episode list. The movies would be full length stories with higher budget animation. Average run time being 90-100 minutes. The OVAs would have similar stories to the movies, but not as large scale. Run time being 45-60 minutes. The TV specials would be unique stories revolving around certain characters. The short films would be similar to fan animations such as Snowdrop and Fall of the Crystal Empire. The ONAs would revolve around background ponies, similar to Button's Adventures. Each episode being 5 minutes long. There would also be different spinoff shows, such as one called "Equestria Chronicles", which would have episodes taking place in Equestria's history. There would even be music videos, similar to fanimations such as Lullaby for a Princess and The Moon Rises. On top of that, there would be different manga having their own storylines (similar to the IDW comics), as well as light novels and audio plays.
