Should FiM continue as a series?

The mane 6 have kinda reached the end of their development and the background characters/ side characters are coming into the forefront. Should Hasbro cull Friendship is Magic an settle for making a spin-off series, with a secondary mane 6, or focusing on the CMC, Spike, the villains, royal sisters, Flurry Heart, Zecora, or anypony else? (coughbringingSunsetShimmerbacktoEquestriainaspinoffcough) There's endless possibilities to be had.

Well, they are using one character as a vessel to explore new stories that they couldn't with the Mane Six, thus evolving the series slightly.

So keep that approach and mix in a few of the other secondaries and you keep breathing new life in the show.

That's one reason why I haven't been one of the Starlight or Twilicorn-bashing critics. There comes a point when things need to be freshened up a bit. That doesn't necessarily mean they need to make spinoffs or start from scratch with a new generation. It just means they need to bring in new characters/settings and update existing ones, just to keep them interesting.

Twilicorn did absolutely nothing to fresh anything up though, it was just a pointless change out of nowhere. Would have made for a much better series final, which was the original intention before executive meddling. If Magical Mystery Cure was replaced by something actually good like a movie or something with the same end result then it would have been fine place to end the series and it would have a been a bit sad, but in the end I would have been happy. But that's not the direction they decided to go in, and I really like where they are going with it now. The changes which have actually changed the show is the introduction of the box and then the cutie map, getting the Cutie Mark Crusaders marks and changing their purpose, and the introduction of numerous reoccurring side characters including, but not limited to, Starlight Glimmer.

True, for the first season or so after Magical Mystery Cure, Twilicorn hardly changed anything. But now, it's clear that Twilight is less of a focus. After all, she sent a friendship report at the end of each episode for the first year or so of episodes, but that made it difficult to branch out and write stories without her. Then things changed so all of the Mane 6 got to report to Celestia, and then the show began to focus a bit more on each individual character's long term goals so they dropped the letters entirely. The series really is going in a good direction now, starting to transition away from the Mane 6 and CMC kinda like @Jeric pointed out:

I dont think they should end FiM after all the transition from the mane 6 to some of the side characters is pretty seamless and its rather enjoyable.

Yeah, there's only a small handful of stories which couldn't be told without Twilight being a princess, and I'm of a mind that season 4 is one of the show's more stale seasons, so it's hard for me to see Twilicorn as a big switch up.

Well... Starlight has added a fresh element to the show, even with the flaws of her season 6 arc and her relative blandness in season 7. I certainly couldn't think of any of the other main characters taking her place in most of her focus episodes.

I kinda gotta admit, I haven't been too impressed with this season. It's not that the episodes have been bad, I just wasn't particularly wowed by them (as good as A Flurry of Emotions was, I'm still not a big Flurry fan, and Fluttershy Leans In was kinda meh). I also just feel like this series is kinda losing its zeal. This kind of phenomenon happens with all kinds of shows, really, and I used to hope it wouldn't happen with with MLP, but I'm starting to get slightly pessimistic about the series and how much longer it can go before the episodes begin to get stale.

That said, I'll still watch every episode. I'm pretty sure I'll find at least a few gems this season, and I'm still a pony fan at heart.

Of course, we're only 4 (5 for Canada and those of us who've already seen Fluttershy Leans In) episodes in so only time will tell how I'll like the remaining episodes of the season.

As to whether or not the series should continue, that's a difficult question to answer. The episodes may be hit-or-miss, but honestly I'm not exactly the best judge regarding whether or not a series is "good", and we don't really know what tricks the writers might pull up their sleeves. As far as we know, an end to the series isn't anywhere in sight (with respect to official updates from the showrunners).

Noop. She rose in stock with me lately as I've said before. I also know of at least one lapsed fan who had a strong presence here who likes what they did with some of the characters like Thorax. It sort of reinvigorated his interest in the show and even writing new fanfiction.

I wasn't as much of a "the sky is falling" guy when Season Six tripped a few times, but I am excited by the hint of greatness that we have seen so far in this season. @Dark Qiviut is fairly accurate when he basically suggests that the episodes have been good overall with some on the verge of hitting a home run. Part of that is the writers are actually doing new things with some of the characters.

I get that Trixie, Thorax, and Maud have their detractors, but they all represent a clever ways to tell friendship lessons without repeatedly covering the same ground or forcing characters to take a step back.

I know that part of the reason you dislike Glimmer is because she represents something you desperately want being taken off the table (Sunset Shimmer being made a mane stay of FiM*), and I get that, but from my vantage point they are doing what you want and I'm a fan of the concept of giving giving developed secondaries a bigger stage to keep the show engaging - we just disagree on the characters they are using to push that concept.

*Yes that was on purpose

Not a response to me, but I'll answer, anyway.

Even as a Starlight fan, many of her appearances in season six suck. We won't disagree here. But this season, she has been one of the best characters, even with the controversy and anger aimed at her upcoming usage (all for valid reasons, and the abuse both sides gave — both on here and off — in response crossed a massive line) thrown around lately. If DHX can write her well consistently, not crew up royally, show her strengths more prominently rather than merely her weaknesses, and not succumb to her habits (again), then we could get somewhere with her.

I want to see season six. I need more Starlight Glimmer in my life. Just in season five she became my favorite character in the show. Even beating out Rarity who has been my mainstay fave since episode one. If she gets more focus then I'm perfectly okay with her being the new main if it came down to it.

Well I mean, I'd be up for it continuing.

I know everyone here is saying that everyone's arcs are done, but I'm just wondering can't they just make new arcs for the same characters?

There are times when I feel like an episode didn't live up to its potential. But I think on average, each season has given me something new, whether it's a well-crafted episode, an engaging new character, or an interesting arc/theme for the season. There are series where I've grown to dread any new episode, but I'm not there with FIM yet.

Again. Everyone thinks the Mane 6 can't have new story arcs.

Which can bring originality and variety without strictly relying on new characters like Starlight.

This is what I think should happen:

Mlp: Friendship is magic should go till season 10 or something in that range and then it goes further, but with different main characters. Like Flurry Heart or something. That would, in my opinion, the best scenario
