I think for AJ this is a really important episode. Being invited by Rarity because of her honesty and then step by step loosing the the capability to differentiate between honest and just mean with all good intent was not only interesting to see but it's also rounding out her character. Starting from season one she has learned a lot and went to development process and this I think episode add just to her progress and shows at the same time how far she has came already.

I also really like Rarity in this episode. Not only because of her guitar solo :D

Overall I think this is a good episode.

I used to think this episode was good, but looking at again and seeing other people's reviews, yeah I can understand why a lot of people don't like this episode.

As much as do love Applejack to death, I don't like her behavior in this episode at all. Her ' honestly ' comes off as very unlikable. I get that she's the most honest pony and all but, you have to use tact while being honest. This episode, takes her honesty to the extreme, almost down to the point that she destroyed Lily Lace's hard work on the hat, and calling fashion ' ridiculous ' in front of the designers' faces. Yeah, it's pretty painful. It may be her 'honest opinion ', but there's a fine line between honesty and you just being a jerk.

Rarity's no better in this episode, either. If Applejack doesn't understand fashion, then why the hell would Rarity pick her in the first place? What? Just because she's the Element of Honesty? Just because she's the Element of Honesty doesn't mean that it's a good idea to have Applejack as the judge, especially from a practical perspective. If anything? Why not choose Fluttershy? She criticized Rarity's dress before in Suited for Success, so I don't see what's the problem of choosing her instead of Applejack. It doesn't help that the way handled it was pretty forced, too. It just only exists because Rarijack reasons. I love me some Rarijack, but there are sometimes when you really don't need to.

I wanted to like the message in this episode because the message is a really great one, but the way they execute it was so botched.

While it does have some good moments like Rarity's guitar solo(though it can be a bit too random), and the scene with Strawberry Sunrise, but that's not enough to save this episode for me.

Overall, this episode is very bad. Rarity and Applejack are both at fault for choosing the fashion show to be a dead on arrival. It fails the message about being honest and constructive and treat like it was black and white. While I'm glad that Applejack learned that the hard way, but that kind of episode's concept should of belong five seasons ago.
