Will we ever see ponies in space?

We haven't even seen what Lulu did during her time on the moon (except in the comc, where we see NMM learning dream control from the Nyx). There are a lot of horse related constallations- Equulus, Pegasus, the horsehead Nebula in Orion, and Mizar and Alcor. 

 

We saw Ursa Minor and Major as a living creature, so what about these horse related stars and nebulae?  Could they be actual cosmic horses? 

When will we get to see ponies in space?

I don't see the reason why the ponies have to be in space. Space is a strange place on a show like this and quite frankly, there's alot of other places within Equestria not explored yet.

Well, it sure sounds like a complicated plotline, like, how would ponies even develop the technology to build a rocket?

Magic can solve anything that is conceivable on the real tangible realm, and if they have never seen a rocket ship before, it's highly improbable they will know how to build it. Hoooooooooooowever, if we can get a movie with a revolutionary army and magical pony-like sirens, I don't see why not getting our alien-like ponies. Plus, how come there is no pony who wants to travel to the stars? We could get to see the birth of a new type of special talent with this idea, although I don't know how feasible can really be.

I wonder if there is even a space like we know. If Celestia and Luna control the sun and moon, that means that Equestria is the centre and that the sun and moon circle around the earth. This means that if there were more suns and moons they have to be controlled too. I think you have to imagine the world from the church:

They have trains and cannons, but can't build rockets? Also, there are other means of getting to space. Magic.

I fail to see your point.  I mean, the cannon was invented sometime during 12th century, and the first practical steam locomotive was invented in 1814. But humans still weren't able to go to space until 1961.

No, I used real life time to show that it's possible for things like cannons and trains to exist without the existence of things like rockets capable of going into space.

We have seen Equestrian trains; for some reason in S1 they were actually pulled by a team of stallions, but that doesn't seem consistent.

Similarly, we don't seem to see any other sort of firearm or cannon but party cannons (which in our world are usually compressed air) and heaver than air flight seems to not require anything we would consider a lifting body, just a couple of pegasi at the front bedecked in what looks to be their own weight in armour, but able to lift not only themselves but their armour, a gilded carriage, and its contents.  So yeah, magic; even leaving aside teleportation, I have no reason to assume you couldn't build a spaceship without rockets, Jules Verne style, using pegasus magic for lift and unicorn magic to push it in the desired directions...

That said, we also don't know that Equestria even HAS space in that sense; again Jules Verne style, its entirely possible that the sun and the moon are small(ish), distinct objects controlled by Alicorn magic but reachable by a sufficiently determined (and patient) pegasus or hot air balloon.. within the atmosphere.

I didn't miss the point, just suggested it didn't apply - human technology at the point of the invention of the steam train was not capable of providing a vehicle capable of reaching the moon; people dreamed of doing so, suggesting methods consistent with then-known technology (such as a cannon shell, or hot air balloon) but even heavier-than-air flight required a hydrocarbon fueled combustion engine, and practical jet aircraft came long after that.

Pony technology, particularly around flight, seems to literally be magic though; there is no reason to believe a pony couldn't imagine and design a vehicle for a space trip using Equestrian magic rather than ballistics, without needing to invent technology beyond what we have already seen.

There is also no reason though to assume they would want to - the two known celestial objects (no pun intended this time) are both controlled by alicorn magic, so the obvious first step to learning more about them (or what exists above the "sky") is to just ask..... Celestia and Twilight appeared to be up there during Twilight's ascension, given that is where her cutie-mark "starburst" descended from, and Luna spent a millennium banished to the moon.

Agreed. As usual a point was raised, and when you issued a counter point to it with a historical reference. The response to your logic was 'it's fiction'.

Perhaps you should have just said, 'cause super secret magic rocket eating termites'. It works ... cause fiction. 

 

Now I'll answer the question in several variations.

Will we see ponies in space? I don't know and neither does anyone here.

Could we? Yes. There is nothing that prevents the writers from creating a story that has some space based element.

Do I want it? Not really. I wasn't a fan of the location of the Moon in the comics. I get my space fix elsewhere. From SU to Star Wars. I'm good thanks. 

Do others want it? Yes, I would assume someone would. 

Do I think the majority want it? No I would speculate that many would roll their eyes at the idea.

I still think you missed the point.

I'm not saying that the ponies have to invent everything in the same order as humans did, but I am saying that just because the ponies have invented X doesn't mean that they have invented Y.

Sure. But unless I am misreading something, you ARE apparently saying that just because humans couldn't have invented Y back when they invented X, that limitation will apply to ponies too. As far as we can tell (assuming any comics with ponies on the moon aren't cannon) ponies don't have space travel. But there isn't really any reason why they couldn't, even if they don't.

No, I'm saying that limitation could apply to ponies too for all we know, and that therefore acting as if the fact that they have invented things like trains and cannons is some kind of proof that  they are able to invent rockets capable of going to to space doesn't make any sense. 

So in othet words, I'm not saying that the ponies can't have invented space travel, just that the argument that Nightmare used simply doesn't work.

I don't think so, but it could happen. As long as they write it well, I would be glad to have one. There is definitely potential in it.
