spoiler Spike should get his own group of friends

With all the info of the MLP Movie coming out, it keeps talking about the Mane Six and the names of all the girls, but Spike's name is never mentioned in the synopsis, and yet he's there for some reason. This gives me the perspective of, perhaps Spike might not hang out with the Mane SIx later in the series that much. He doesn't even hang with them full time anyway and he doesn't have an Element of Harmony. I'm not saying Spike isn't friends with the Mane Six, but they don't seem to be his BEST friends (other than Twilight and maybe Rarity), which is why I think he might his own friendship group later in the series if he doesn't have one already.

He already does O&O with Big Mac and Discord, and in Triple Threat he's gonna hang with Ember and Thorax, and in All Bottled Up he stayed behind with Starlight and Trixie, and he seems to be a better friend to Starlight than Twilight is to her since he understands her better. Starlight and Trixie were the heroes in the season 6 finale along with Thorax and Discord as well! So if we add 2 + 2 + 2 together... does this mean that we might have a friendship group containing Starlight, Trixie, Spike, Discord, Ember, Thorax, Big Mac, and maybe Maud in the bunch? I'm not 100% sure about Big Mac though since he's got Sugar Belle now. But what do you think of this math? BTW, I suck at math!

He makes a great assistant to the Mane Six, but let's face it, when it comes to friendships he doesn't get much attention there. so his own group of friends could be the way to go at times he's not with the Mane Six! Cause it seems like helping the Mane Six is a job more like.

Being in a relationship doesn't mean you need to sever ties with friends. I get that this happens to some people, but it certainly doesn't have to. In the world of FiM I'm sure Big Mac will be able to keep doing his tabletop hijinks.

I don't think too much stock should be placed in the movie advertising. I get the feeling that the people at Lionsgate couldn't care less about the show. 

Most sitcoms and cartoons focus on a single group of friends because that gives them a manageable number of main characters. All these proposals to give Spike or Starlight their own friend group would lead to a lot of bloat, I think, and besides, I miss when Spike would interact with the mane six more often. What season 7 needs is more pairings out of the norm - while season 6 afforded Spike some dignity he previously lacked, it also basically excluded him from all its quirky cast pairings in favour of more plot-heavy episodes. I'd like him to share episodes with ponies other than Rarity and Twilight more often. I mean, he's still considered alongside the group in episodes like the season 6 finale, so I'd like to see him interact with the other four more.

Yes, but he also got some, like Discord and Big Mac. Maybe Thorax for the next guys night.

I would actually not take the two groups together. Make one group with Starlight, Trixie, Maud, Discord and one with Spike, Discord, Ember, Starlight, Thorax.

I'd like to see more of him with Starlight Glimmer. He makes a great advisor to her, and she really brings out his cool, mature side. He's good friends with Thorax and Ember too, so hopefully with those four all starting to forge connections we can have an episode with them together.

Frankly the Mane 6 have interacted with him as a child for so long that it's really stalled his character development. To those three however, he's a respected hero and teacher.
