Is Tempest Shadow 'not' the antagonist?

Because she will be voiced by Emily Blunt, she's a (very) good voice actor. However I do not want Tempest Shadow to be the antagonist in the movie as I did not want Emily Blunt to voice an antagonist character. Hopefully she would be reformed in the middle of the movie (whenever she will betray the Storm King and defeat him).

The question for this topic (for some reason) is why Tempest Shadow should 'not' be the antagonist?

Because, she's voiced by Emily Blunt. 

I really do wonder though, is The Storm King Tempest Shadow's right-hand man or are they two seperate characters with two seperate goals?

I have no doubt that Tempest Shadow will be the antagonist, but who says she won't be reformed by the end? I can't see her being like Lord Tirek and learning nothing from the whole ordeal. My theory is that she starts out completely (or seemingly completely...) loyal to the Storm King and slowly begins to wake up to the magic of friendship embodied by the exact ponies whom she has been tasked with pursuing. By the end, I predict she betrays the Storm King and stands up for not only herself and her own dignity as a pony who can control her own destiny without the help of the Storm King, but the Mane 6, whom she has gained respect for.

  I fail to understand why the prior conceptions of a voice actress has anything to do with the directions of the character in whatever role they fulfill. Is it not the whole point of an actor to play as wide a range as possible? I mean, she's already pretending to be an entirely different species, what difference does being the antagonist make? She can't be evil because you like her work? Wouldn't that prove she's better the more roles she can do?

  Two major things I need to point out. One being that I do sincerely doubt that that the guy that's openly mocking ponies, that's thrice as tall as anypony else and wearing tall, spiky, gothic evil-armor, is going to be taking a less-important lackey role. You don't put that much character design into a character you don't want your audience focusing on.

  On the Second, It's already cannon that Storm King is the villain. They've done a movie-prequel comic book that I've seen reviewed on the YouTubes. He's goin' about conquering foreign lands like the anthro-cat land of IbeSeein'yah. I mean... Abyssina. Granted, he doesn't seem all that outright brutal and a bit funny in his own right and there's a betrayal in that comic of a character who clearly is made of ultimate evil, so he's likely going to pull an Arthas. Namely, that he's the villain alright, but not entirely of his own volition.

  Actually... I think Tirek got blown the Fluff up, didn't he? Like, nothing left of him, right?

   But I don't get that, why you want her reformed? We've already seen just so much reformation in this show that is predictable & covered ground already. There's no further ground to explore in the reformed villain role and why would they for a movie-only character? It's common practice that the majority of new characters for a franchise that are introduced in a movie are never mentioned again after it in the show, or are given a complete franchise overhaul to focus almost exclusively on them alone. To do otherwise and just toss her into the world with the rest of the continuity would prove confusing to the audience who likely never caught the movie.

   ...but breaking the norm like that is entirely possible for this show...

   Irregardless though, there is a reason we have the parallel Equestria Girls universe with Sunset Shimmer that couldn't show up in the show if it wanted to.

I don't really agree with this overall notion. It is always good for a voice actor to branch out and do different roles, shows their flexibility in the industry.

Beyond that, my theory is that the Storm King is simply using her as a pawn, sadly that plot-point is fairly easy spot already. Maybe they will curveball me and not do that, but I see Storm King not holding up his end of the deal, leaving Tempest to fight alongside the heroes by the end. So while she might be the immediate force early on, I don't see her being an antagonist by the end of the film.

Unfortunately, given some spoiler related information about her motivation, it seems confirmed that she is going to get reformed at the end.

So expect another FiM quality reformation from the movie.  

Although at the very least, she seems to have much much much much much better motivations for being evil than Starlight ever did.

She's the token evil villain who learns about friendship while the "True" evil villain gets defeated. Ala Discord and tirek.

I doubt it. It seems that Storm King is the one pulling the strings. A heart-wrenching tale will probably be told in the middle and we'll realise that she's not as bad as she seems.

Yeah but it gets repetitive and dull. Even MLP n Friends didn't have every villain redeemed.

Agreed.

That being said, its kind of why we have the storm king; that way they can have their cake and eat it too by having a lesser villain get redeemed and a Major villain who stays evil all throughout.
that being said, given how much screen presence she has, I'm a bit worried it'll feel hollow if they don't have storm king established enough as THE villain of the movie.

Agreed 100%; I wish they'd leave more characters as recurring villains. A Redemption here and there is okay, but when EVERYONE becomes redeemed, it really ruins the impact of characters pulling heel face turns (and cuts into the deck of antagonists you can use).

I really hope they don't touch Lightning dust or Tirek with the redemption stick >.<

Reformed villains aren't the problem. The problem is that they reform without a reason, but only like a speech.  That's why Discords one was so good.

In my little pony movie Prequel comics, it tells about her past. But I'm not sure if it will be a canon to the movie, since the comic is a complete separate thing from the animation.  But knowing about her past, it is most likely she will reform, but not in the middle of the movie....more like toward the end with the final boss battle. when she'd have to learn the hard way doing this  is not the answer to her problem,

Yes, i think. Its not 'I knew' because i still try to stay away from movie spoilers, just a guess based on trailers alone, not comic or anything spoilers related. Sooooo, do spoilers tell you something about it?  Anyway, just keep it to yourself, i will minimize the spoilers as much as possible, knowing its a kids show but still want a bit surprises.

hmmm you might be into  something. While everyone would think he's the main villian, there might be someone who's actually the ringmaster. That, I would like to see in the movie. MLP need a plot twist!! It would be funny if it happen to be that little midget sidekick (forgot his name) that is a ringmaster. xp

How many plot twist can satisfy us the older audiences? The layers of Twist is not matter, its how they Distract us and deliver a Satisfying revelation that you will come to rewatch it over and over and if that little midget sidekick is a villain, it will be shocking but it really hurt the movie because its look stupid, not how a good plot twist works.

It weird that some youtube reactors react to this trailer, they always dont pay attention too much on that Storm King guy but i DONT  that guys look really suspicious, and this movie is written by Megahn who wrote some plot twists for the show, it would be painful for me if she doesnt have any surprise for ME
