Why I Hate MLP Season 8

It seems like a slip up for the season to be having two similar episodes where both Princess Celestia and Pinkie Pie are just bad at something and have to be told they're bad at it. Just with different outcome. Celestia could handle it after resolving trust issues while Pinkie just quits on her life.

Most of the episodes are pretty weak though, and I didn't love the whole school arc.  It had too many characters to create stories for with the new mane 6 students and then bumbled it. It coming right after the movie didnt help things. The entire concept of the school happened within 5 minutes and then BOOM suddenly there is a school. It felt VERY rushed and had it been developed more in the show it might've been better

I don't hate season 8. However, I think that it is the weakest of all the FiM seasons.

I like the idea of the School of Friendship and newly added characters. However, I think the writing never found a good way to integrate it into show. There are more than one episodes which tries to establish the newly added characters by diminishing the main six or at least push them far away and their development like Non Complete Clause.

It is really sad because the idea and premise of this very interesting (not just for selling merchandise). But admitely it is not easy to integrate this in a show which has already so many good characters and items to handle like the Map of Friendship - which is an amazing plot device. Like others also said before the show didn't really make good use of the new possibilities, good and important possibilities had not enough time to grow.

In my personally opinion the School of Friendship should have been a spin off of the show or even it's entire movie series ( I think it would have been much more potential than EqG)

But to repeat myself: I don't hate season 8. It brings a lot of good thinsg to the table. There just barely room for it in this overcrowded series to integrate and develop it further.

Another way they could have addressed the insufficient story time for the characters is more episodes, but the show would have ended up carrying on for longer, perhaps longer than some people were comfortable with and the show had to end some time.

Considering they spent so much time world building it did make sense more characters would be added over time, so I don't feel like the argument against more background characters holds up, it would get very boring if we had nothing but stories of Mane Six over and over, something needed to change to address that monotony, but perhaps the execution of that was not very good.

I would say I liked the introduction of Mean Six though, seeing them get under Queen Chrysalis skin was hilarious as you can see she was losing her patience with Mean Twilight Sparkle. So season 8 of the show had its good moments in my opinion.

Every show will end at some point. FiM has with nine seasons already a very very long running time. Other successful cartoons don't get that many. Star vs Forces of Evil, Gravity Falls etc have less than nine seasons. That the number of seasons and episodes are limited is just part of my argument I made. ]\

The world building is highly appreciate from my end and there should have been more. Actually, with the ending of season nine I think this is also needed.

I didn't say that I they should I haven shown only the Main Six stories. You need to keep in mind that the student six are special characters. They need a lot of screen time to be really well established. While there have been already seven seasons for the main six, the Student didn't have that. You also cannot drop the Main Six completely out of the picture and even more important you need to show their interactions, how they are different, have different character progressions and so on.

There are so many background characters which needed already more time to be shown that introducing new character which needs to be establish is very challenging. There are many examples, but let's take just one: The pillars. They have been introduced in season seven. We see them once more in "A Rockhoof and a Hard Place" and "Friendship University" and beginning and ending of season nine. To say that they have been underused is an understatement. Even more important they share with the Main Six and Student Six they same role. I'm unsure how to put it down, let's say that the "Friendship is strong with them". Here much time would have been needed to establish and to develop these characters. Considering the ending of season nine it would also have been also very very good to show more about heir homelands.

And this is just one example, there are many more characters which needed more time: Spike, Starlight or the CMC. I'm still very sad that the CMC  never get a bigger role with growing age. This is one the one hand understandable because lack of time. On the other hand: if you remember that hey became tutors in season eight then this would have been a good opportunity for the show to develop and connect them more.

I'm not saying I want only main six. I'm saying that this feels like a spinoff chance for a new show or movies and it would also have been justified from my point of view.

I've been rewatching FiM and dreading getting to season 8, but I just finished season 7. Applejack is my favorite and I know it's downhill from here, especially in the episode where she is super competitive with Rainbow Dash again, which felt like they both forgot the lesson they learned about that in season 1, with the leaf falling race, and it was worse in their school competitive episode because it negatively impacted others as well. I don't think Applejack had any positive growth after season 7, maaaaaybe like a single episode. Not to mention she could have been removed from The Movie and not changed anything either.
