According to Andrew Griffith, comic artist at IDW, the long dream of a Transformers and horses was considered at one point,  it was cancelled

Honestly, it's not that far-fetched of a concept. The original plot synopsis of the MLP movie talked about alien worlds, and even though the idea never materialized, the way the Storm King's forces attacked like an alien invasion with a technologically advanced fleet did reflect what the creative team likely originally had in mind. Not a surprise to me is this news.

Seriously though. The image in OP. I have trouble picturing it. The clash of artistic styles is so darned extreme that it requires an even higher level of suspension of disbelief. Curious to know what the plot would be. Megatron harvesting Energon from the tree? Would it be a comedy? I'm picturing Prime acting all serious about saving the world and describing the plan to his fellow autobots, when Pinkie suddenly starts climbing all over him, trying to figure out how to get his mouth to form a smile.

Hey if they could do a GI Joe/ Transformers crossover than this should be a piece of cake. 

Heck, why haven't they made Transforming MLP toys yet? They know we'd buy them.

Friendship is More Than Meets The Eye 

I’m still amazed this never happened given how much Hasbro’s teased, pretty sure they could make it work in a fun Saturday morning cartoon manner like the G1 cartoon, and you could get some fun interactions out of, like Fluttershy trying her patience with the Dinobots, Rainbow Dash and Sideswipe pranking Prowl, Pinkie Pie showing Bumblebee and Jazz around, etc.

That could go bad really quickly. Deceptions scan for energon, find this huge vein of it right where the tree of harmony is.

Oh, Dash vs. Starscream could finally be CANON.
