What is the minimum wage in your state?

In Lithuania the minimum wage is 840EUR/month before taxes or 5.14EUR/hour. Starting next year, it is going up to 924EUR/month and 5.65EUR/hour. The average salary in the second quarter of 2003 is 2000EUR/month before taxes.

Here, the people mostly talk about how much they make in a month (not hour or year) and use the "in hand" value, the money you get after the government takes its cut. The minimal salary and pensions are two of the big campaign points for politicians.

The real salaries (after taxes) are:
The current minimal - 633EUR/month
The average - 1241EUR/month

In Texas it's the federal minimum wage of $7.25.

Figures. While I think it should be raised periodically to catch up with inflation (and ya know, as a safety net for cheap employers?), there's at least quite a few jobs around here that offer well above that without a college degree. Just... have to find them. Too bad this city is pretty pricy.

But also even "well above 7.25" isn't good enough nowadays.
