Rarity x Fancy Pants is slightly better (at least they get along quite well), but I'm not really a fan of that ship either. For platonic pairings, I think I would stay away from putting Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie together, because I'm not entirely sure what you'd do with that except have them annoy each other. I guess buckball, but that's not particularly interesting to me. I pretty much feel the same way about Rarity and Applejack, in part because that's how they often turned out in the show. I would avoid those characters in a romantic pairing as well, and all canonical couples (including AppleDash, in my mind) are to be preserved. Cadance might be an exception, though... methinks the Princess of Love would not object to having multiple partners. I think I would also avoid writing Fluttershy and Discord together, even though the show strongly implied that they're a couple, just because I find it so distasteful.
