Misconception: Bronies hate anime and make fun of anime fans

This is the top comment on an anime music video with over 100k views. I've never seen a brony say anything negative about anime, in fact there is many pony-anime crossovers. Where do these misconceptions come from? What other misconceptions have you seen on the internet about us? ~

Yeah I don't know where that comes from. That particular user is a pony hater but is veiling it as self-defense as an anime fan.

I think it's a bit silly that you're letting ONE person's YouTube comment speak for an entire community.

 

Judging from the YouTube views of pony related videos, there's about 1 million+ people who seem to regularly watch brony videos. You can't honestly expect them all to share the same opinion.

 

This is just one person's view And it's on YouTube, a place notorious for troll-worthy comments.

 

There will always be misconceptions anyway, even amongst a few. Bronies are weird, we're a bunch of people who like to watch and create other works of fiction from My Little Pony, of course there will be misconceptions, nobody asks you to listen to them though

It's an ignorant statement at best. You generalize the actions of one person to that of a whole fanbase/group, and then scapegoat them later on. It's how hate spreads and bad blood arises.

 

But really? Never did I EVER see a brony calling anime "weird and gay". Not only is it hard to believe that THIS fanbase would go around and say that, but it makes me believe that the guy is just making bronies look bad.

I don't know. It's pretty well established that alot of us were Anime fans long before we discovered this show. Not to mention, about 90 percent of the plots in Anime centers around the Power of Friendship. So if anything, being an Anime fan makes it MORE likely that any given person would like FiM.

I think Bronies just playfully mock anime fans; we don't despise it. For instance, FiW part 6 mocks anime/its fans, but does not semean them in the same way that trolls attack Bronies. Are there a handful if hater Bronies? Yes, but they're just a small group giving us a bad name. The case shown by the OP was just a ponyhater trying to disguise his hate.

 

What could be worrying, I think, is overly aggressive pony expansion. The only people who have a respectable reason for disliking Bronies are those who saw their non-pony forums/discussion boards invaded in fall 2011. And perhaps also those who've had bad experiences with Bronies who were VERY aggressive in spreading the message of pony. While most people who claim personal experience of pony attack are lying, the few stories that are true should be worrisome.

I mean, Youtube comment sections are infamous for always having idiotic arguments. Video shows an overweight person, comments section is flooded with "O M G! WAT A LOSER I BET HES AMERICAN". Video related to ponies? "ALL BRONIES R PEDIFILES N DESERVE TO BE TORTURED 2 DEATH".

 

Long story short: Youtube hardly reflects the majority opinion of everything. It's full of little fail griefers trying to create as much drama as possible. I doubt anyone with their head screwed on right would actually base their opinion on the fandom on a random comment war they saw on Youtube.

One brony, or even an isolated group of bronies does not represent the community as a whole; personal preference and personality largely influences the actions of anyone, including bronies, on the internet, and just because they are bronies does not mean that they "love and tolerate." The same goes for the hater side. A fandom is composed of individuals who band together under one purpose, but they are individuals nonetheless, with their own interests and dislikes.

 

Though I agree with everyone here that I rarely, if ever, see an anime hater who is also a brony. And those who are are usually targeted because they affiliate themselves with us. And it is rather naive for that hater to think that through those probably one or two instances of brony anime haters, probably even if they were innocent enough like FiW, thinks that all bronies are that way.

 

My best friend is a brony and a very avid anime fan, for goodness sakes! Never judge a book by it's cover, and never judge a fandom by a single fan.
