general Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?

I have it written in my profile, "A man's soul is formed under adversity.", so you should know my opinion on this. Bad things happen to everyone and it's just a part of life, pruning people to become stronger.

It's to maintain balance: all the bad things happen to good people to balance all the good things that happen to bad people.

Jokes aside, no universal reason. The very concepts of "good", "bad" and perhaps even "why" are human-made, subjective and can change. Whether we benefit or suffer from bad things depends on the nature of those things and individuals they happen to.

Because reality does not function strictly on the basis of karma. To what extent do we benefit from good people suffering? Unless one specifically enjoys the suffering of others, I do not think there is a benefit (in the long run).

I reject the position that the act of categorizing things as good or bad is an arbitrary task. If that were the case, what is the point in being for or against anything? If all moral values are subjective and, so, hold equal merit, then on what basis can one oppose an individual who believes murder, rape, and general human suffering to be morally righteous?

I see that a non-arbitrary way to assess morals is to determine whether it is beneficial or detrimental to human survival. For instance, a society where murder is considered a moral good by its population would not survive in the long run. All other things being equal, a society where high productivity is considered a moral good will outperform a society that does not consider such a value as a moral good. And so on. So I suppose on this basis, the pure form of immorality is the state where there is no person left alive to ask questions on morality at all.

Things can happen without rhyme or reason. That's just the way it is. Besides, if I've learnt anything, it's that bad times often make a person stronger and wiser.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Because the world we live in is cruel and unjust. Really it just comes down to luck in most cases, and anyone can have bad luck.

Because the whole idea of "karma" is a big steaming pile of horse apples. Stuff just happens without any higher power actively ensuring that stuff happens to people who actually deserve it or that any bad stuff could facilitate enough self-improvement to justify the suffering. If there is someone or something out there doing that, they're putting less effort into their work than Zephyr Breeze.

Both seen and unseen(hidden) factors come into play and you end up with whatever result that you are getting.

I don't believe in luck nor do I believe in fate.

Here's an example.

You have a pair of dice, throw them and get a 3 and a 5. Is this chance? Or a combination of dozens if not hundreds of factors that come into play? How did you throw the dice? How far did you throw them? How much strength did you use? How did you pick them up? Did you fiddle with them in your palm? What number were they on facing your palm when you threw them? These are but a few of the factors that come into play when throwing a pair of dice. There is no such thing as chance nor fate, only a whole lot of physical factors that come into play.

A human brain would fry once we start going into dozens of factors let alone hundreds of them.

Bad things can happen to anyone and is a fact of life. To me the question becomes rather, how will you face it if or when bad things happen to you?

Because the world is shit and there's not such a thing as cosmic justice or anything along the lines. We're just a bunch of cells dying every second trying to survive on enviroments that are pretty much deadly all the time. The best we can do is find ways to ignore the relentless agony we have to endure, but even then, reality will eventually catch up with us.
