Iforgotmybrain 8,035 July 31 Share July 31 I swear to Luna this used to be a thread but I can't find it for the life of me. So I'm making it myself and if it does already exist the mods can merge it. Title is self-explanatory, post and tell us about something you learned today. I learned about the Russian word "Мусенька". Which, as far as I understand, seems to more or less be a nonsensical cutesy type word you'd use for a pet or younger sibling. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, native speakers
SharpWit 3,031 July 31 Share July 31 Today I learned that the dorsal fins of blue whales are closer to their tails than their heads. Also, as of typing this, googling Blue Whale shows an AI image that is clearly a combination of a humpback whale and a great white shark as the first result. How does one say Мусенька? 1

I believe it's pronounced along the lines of "Moo-seen-kaa".

Iforgotmybrain 8,035 August 3 Author Share August 3 I learned that the Mig-25RB is actually the world record holder for highest altitude achieved by a jet aircraft at 123,000 feet. I previously thought it was the SR-71 but no, it just holds the record for highest altitude in horizontal flight. Meaning, the SR-71 was able to maintain it's record altitude of 85,000 feet while in level flight. While the Mig-25RB had to zoom climb to reach 123k feet and wasn't able to maintain that altitude. Pretty neat, huh?

ExplosionMare 27,912 August 3 Share August 3 I learned that somehow, you can alphabetize your Apple Notes. It's something I'd have to look into on my own phone (I discovered this tip on my mom's phone), since I just have mine ordered by date. 2 Boom! The A-12 made it to 96,000 in a zoom climb but that’s all I found.

My dermatologist always recommends aquaphor or its generic form instead of antibiotic creams (I feel like I'm talking in an ad but it's the truth). Even the generic form can be a bit expensive, tho. Only downside.

That is good to know I’ll have to try to pick up some aquaphor this week. 1 1 *I’m Just Livin That Life* *Von Dutch* *Cult Classic But I Still Pop*

Iforgotmybrain 8,035 September 18 Author Share September 18 I learned that most states charge you a fee to enter their state and metro parks . If they charge you to enter I feel like that defeats the entire purpose of them. Those types of parks are supposed to be free and easy to access in my mind. Can’t believe Ohio actually got something right by having all our parks be completely free.

Can’t believe Ohio actually got something right by having all our parks be completely free. Yeah it gets really confusing in Maryland with that. They're selling the park pass for 75 if your a resident. 100 if you aren't. Janes Island Water Trails has it's own separate pass you have to have. For 360 bucks or 150 a day you can take part in Maryland's outdoor recreation submit. Cost per entry depends on the park. As some charge per person in your car and others just by the vehicle. I will say Maryland is kinder to out of state visitors than Delaware is lol. We once paid 20 bucks to visit a state park in Delaware. It was dirty af too so I dk what they're using the money for but it wasn't keeping it clean. 1 1 *I’m Just Livin That Life* *Von Dutch* *Cult Classic But I Still Pop*
ExplosionMare 27,912 September 21 Share September 21 I feel like I've finally learned the difference between coddling, actually being supportive, and letting people figure things out on their own when they need to. My natural instinct in most cases is to try and fix everybody's problems (unless it's the same one over and over and I'm tired of hearing it) but sometimes, the best thing to do is to not overstep and let them do what they need to do. Other times, people just need a friend or some kind words but they aren't saying so directly. I wouldn't say I coddle anyone but I've let myself be coddled before and it ended up being more damaging than it was helpful when it came time to learn how to regulate my emotions completely on my own. 3 Boom! Iforgotmybrain 8,035 October 30 Author Share October 30 I learned that Akatsuki, a Japanese space probe which was orbiting Venus, was officially declared lost today. So, there's no longer any active probes around the planet, which makes it the only inner planet without any sort of ongoing mission or active spacecraft around it. That's kinda sad tbh. And there likely won't be any missions involving Venus until 2027, and then 2028, most likely (because space stuff gets delayed all the time, who knows).

It's kind of amazing that humans even bother with that stuff. We're not going any time soon. Now within our lifetimes if ever, I'm sure. Space travel completely petered out after the 60s.
