Oh god, this is a good topic. Let me think of some...

Coroner - Suicide Command

Devin Townsend Project - Pandemic

Megadeth - Bad Omen

Sepultura - Beneath The Remains

And. So. Much. Fucking. More... You gotta click the links though to get a specific riff, to really understand why I like it.

  • 2 years later...

Let me bring this thread back from the dead with my favorite riffs... (not all of the riffs are in there)

And there's even more, but I feel like that's enough for this list I guess

Just to be different, I'm posting my favorite BANJO riff!

Journey of the Sorcerer (1972)
- The Eagles

Real diehard science fiction fans will recognize this as the full version of what was used as the main theme of the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio play, and then the six part TV series.

That riff after the slow, melodic intro when the heavy guitars kick in..... so good, it's unique, the tone is absolutely fantastic and it's still catchy even though it's quite complex and weird.

Gojira has some goddamn great riffs too, especially this one beginning at 3:37. So groovy.

Hm... When I think of memorable guitar riffs I usually think of Boston (like "Peace of Mind") or even Journey's Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), but those are songs with LOTS of airtime, so I'll pick other songs, even if they really aren't too obscure either. Lol.

Maybe this one doesn't count as a guitar riff, necessarily, and it probably is not the first thing most would mention when thinking of this song, but I really like the riff that goes with the first phrase of the vocal section:

And I can't not mention Trigun's Opening. The riff is suspiciously similar to Led Zeppelin's 'Black Dog', but to be honest, I like the Trigun Opening a lot more. *ducks for cover*
