Meanest moment in the show

Recommended Posts

Of course the characters were mean when they were Discorded, and of course Fluttershy was rude in PYHD... Those were not natural situations, so I don't think it's too fair to bring them up. Especially not the Discorded versions... Fluttershy when she was mean is arguable, but I still wouldn't count it myself.

What I think of is Rainbow Dash. It's been forever since I've seen the episode, but I remember her being VERY rude to Fluttershy in the episode where they go to try to get the dragon to go away.

Has anyone mentioned Babs?

Of course! Talk about a bad way of treating a cousin you haven't seen in awhile.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

The meanest thing in the show in my mind, hooves down, was Diamond Tiara suggesting that Scootaloo is only known for her inability to fly. Defining someone by a disability is the most horrible thing ypu could do.

Next worst: Applejack blowing up at Twilight after the magic mishap in Winter Wrap Up.

Next: Rarity's treatment of Sweetie Belle in Sisterhooves Social.

Finally, Everything Fluttershy did in Putting Your Hoof Down.

No way, guys... it HAS to go to Flutters in "Putting Your Hoof Down", if only because this extremely cruel tirade was attacking the very raison d'etre of both Pinkie Pie and Rarity, two ponies who are not only meant to be among the best of her friends, but who had done nothing but try to help her throughout the episode.

And this vicious rant came from one of the usually kindest (heck, supposedly the epitome of kindness) ponies, and not due to magic alteration of her personality.

Meanest moment, hooves down...

I don't understand why people would think that Mare Do Well was the meanest moment in the show.  Sure it wasn't the nicest thing they could have done, but they didn't 'gang up on her' to make her feel bad, or insult her in any way, or really do anything except show her up.  She was getting a huge head when she honestly was not that great, as she displayed when she nearly missed, or DID miss, saving several ponies, which could have cost lives.  She needed to be taught a lesson and her friends did the right thing.

There are a lot of moments in the show where I was frankly shocked at a character's actions.

Discorded Fluttershy, at first, was one, but that doesn't count really cause it was discorded.

Another is Applejack blowing up at Twilight after she causes a mess in winter wrap up.  Even after watching the episode, I still don't see why using magic was such a bad thing, especially since Twilight really did want to help.  Yelling at her for that was just mean, even if she did cause the mess; she's AJ's friend and AJ could have handled that a LOT better.

Another is Putting Your Hoof Down, for obvious reasons.

Finally there's Filli Vanilli.  I was shocked and honestly disgusted at how Pinkie was acting.  It was as though she was intentionally trying to make Fluttershy upset; it wasn't funny, though I feel like she and the writers were trying to make it funny.  If they were trying to use Pinkie's airheadedness as an excuse, that doesn't cut it.  Even Pinkie isn't that airheaded.  She knows how to make her friends happy, and that is not how!  It was very out of character for her, and I have liked Pinkie a lot less ever since that episode.

“What surprises me most?  Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.  Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.  And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

Personally, I would have to say that it's a tie between three episodes;

The Mysterious Mare Do-Well, with the Mane Six's hypocrisy in praising themselves for their own accomplishments-rather than each others' and rubbing it in Dash's face, disregarding the lives she did save earlier in the episode before she got a bloated ego, while showing her extremely depressed in the same episode made the act come across as more vicious than what was probably initially intended (at least, I hope that was the case.)

Putting Your Hoof Down had New Fluttershy, which went way overboard in telling Pinkie and Rarity that their lives were meaningless because nobody else cared about their interests, reducing them to running off in tears was pretty brutal.

Filli Vanilli, regardless of what was intended by the writer came off as either unintelligent or purposefully mean-spirited by Pinkie, given that she enjoys making others happy, yet she fails to realize she has done anything wrong when she reduces Fluttershy to tears and seems to be baffled by the fact the others are angry at her for her insensitive comments or was possibly trying to get back at Fluttershy for the aforementioned episode.

Either way, it came off as pretty jarring to see Pinkie, especially after her lesson from Pinkie Pride.

Why? Both sounded like reasonable responses to ponies that refused to abide by rules.

Trouble is, neither of them were reasonable. Both of them snapped, hard. It seemed especially hypocritical of Applejack as, tradition or not, she had accepted magical help on her farm from Twilight in the past.

I would have gotten mad too. Like it or not, there are rules and Twilight's refusal to follow them cost them time and made things harder.

Definitely in "Putting your hoof down" with Fluttershy. Saying that their life was basically pointless was pretty harsh.

That was one of the only times I got emotional when watching the show...

Well I have to say Putting Your Hoof Down just because if somepony can make Pinkie Pie cry that has to be pretty rough :c

However in Griffon The Brush off when Gilda makes Fluttershy cry that made me really sad honestly so I guess to ME that's the meaniest scene. Rude bully.

Btw, to everyone saying Mare-Do-Well was that truly "mean"? They did it mysteriously as to not embarrass Dash, and it was in an attempt to reach her humility. I'm not putting down anyones ideas, I just think there is meaner scenes involving bullying or being rude

There are a few things that come to mind:

  • Of course Fluttershy telling off Pinkie and Rarity in "Putting Your Hoof Down" I was like LOL REALLY!?!?! :o:lol:
  • Gilda in "Griffon the Brush Off"
  • "The Mysterious Mare Do Well." I see where the writers were trying to go with it, but messing with someone's head that way to teach them a lesson IS NOT a good thing. :okiedokielokie:   Watching the whole series, I do think Rainbow Dash has self confidence issues. "Sonic Rainboom" and "Testing Testing 1, 2, 3" show this more also.
  • In "One Bad Apple" The CMC booby-trapping a float to crash off a cliff with Babs inside it :huh: ????????????? I mean seriously think about that... WTF

Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension

For those who are wondering, Twilight is chewing bubble gum.

There's one really important question you have to ask yourself when thinking about Mare-Do-Well. Why the costume?

Why couldn't they send the same message by saving ponies on their own? Show Dash that she can't accomplish alone what everyone else can working together. Pinkie's better at this, AJ's better at that, etc. Why was the costume necessary?

It's because the plan wasn't to teach her that some ponies can outdo her at some things. It was to utterly crush her spirit by LYING to her and telling her that ONE pony can outdo her in EVERYTHING.

How can I forget Iron Will changing Fluttershy. Talk about brainwashing the masses North Korean style. To me, that was meaner than Fluttershy being mean to everypony in Equestria because it was Iron Will's fault she became that way.

Nopony dares to change Fluttershy who she is!! Remember, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

He did exactly what Fluttershy wanted which was to teach her assertiveness. It was her choice to take it too far and become rude towards other ponies. What he should have done was have the contract say that if she fails to become assertive then she does not have to pay for his seminar. Otherwise, she would have no choice but to do so.

Gilda roaring at Fluttershy for little-to-no reason, Discord celebrating how he ruined Twilight's friendships, Garble's gang trying to kill phoenix babies, Cadance!Chrysalis attacking an already-broken Twilight at the end of ACW - Part 1, Sombra clearly getting off on others' PTSD, Tirek making Discord relapse and then just throwing him away like a trash bag, etc.

The scene during Return of Harmony part 2 where everyone's in the library. I don't think anything can top it in pure meanness! Fluttershy using that bucket on Twilight and Spike, the keep-away "game", all of it. Possibly Putting Your Hoof Down could contest it, maybe? But I don't think so.

I gotta disagree with this. The costume was there because the episode would have been boring without it, and furthermore, so what if one pony could outdo her? The point was to show her she was not the best there ever was at everything.

Also, they were praising themselves for the ironic value. After what Dash had been doing, their self-praise is hardly worth mentioning.
