Im trying to make a Merfolk EDH deck. Do you have any suggestions? Also is Empress Galina a good commander since she can gain controle of legendary permanents you know your opponent will gat a legendary permanent out since they also have a commander, or it will just not make them want to put out there commander witch is also good.

For a merfolk commander i would take Sygg, River Guide if only for his ability to give Merfolk protection. Its incredibly useful especially in edh as there will be a lot of removal spells floating around.  Plus he is white and blue so its gives you access to the white Merfolk (And changelings) from Lorwyn, And he is only 2 mana...

Sygg River Guide is great for straight merfolk aggro, as is Thada Adel. Her ability to steal artifacts straight out of opponents libraries is amazing in EDH, because no good EDH deck is missing some powerful artifacts.

If you want to go more control, Sygg River Cutthroat is a good general for drawing extra cards, and UB is really powerful in EDH. Also, since that's all he really does, he's pretty non-threatening so people often won't target him. Also, the deck can work perfectly well without him.

 

Galina isn't really all that great. In some cases, a deck can work fine without its general, so they just don't cast him, and Galina is useless. Some decks will just kill her a few times so she'll be like 9-11 to cast, or they'll just tuck her, and then they'll just cast their general and go on their merry way. The only deck Galina totally hoses would be Sisay, since it relies completely on having tons of legends out.

I tried it very briefly a long time ago, but I remember almost nothing about it. I'm thinking about doing cockatrice, though, because a lot of my friends have it.

So, I was looking up cards for the Raksha Golden Cub EDH deck I'm building and it occurred to me: WHY THE HELL IS THIS NOT BANNED IN EDH?!

I didn't get into Magic, but the guys in my hometown video game store were real experts. They had all the cards, special decks and playing mats and cases, held their own tournaments in the store every Friday night, etc. They'd get like 30 kids in there. Nerds! Every one of 'em, nerds!! But then, so was I. I just wasn't a Magic nerd. xD

 

One of my friends tried to teach me once. It was way too complex for me, but I chose Blue cards, which are supposed to be about outsmarting your opponent. I had no idea what I was doing, but I did win the match.

I'm a fairly decent Magic player.  I like to think of myself as a god among noobs, yet a noob among gods.  I currently only have EDH decks because the other formats just don't feel as impressive.  I like the 'epic' feel of EDH games.  However, I do enjoy sealed tournaments, and will be attending this Saturday's prerelease (Simic FTW!).

 

The decks currently (again, all EDH) are Rhys the Redeemed which focuses on elves doing stupid shenanigans; Vish Kal which sort of has a tribal vampire theme, but mostly focuses on feeding my entire field to Vish so he can kill with general damage; and Adun Oakenshield, which is tribal spirits focusing on being able to reuse almost anything that gets sent to the graveyard.

I used to play a rat deck in modern and that card helped it a lot. I made that standard legal (Well, standard legal in the next two weeks) rat deck for fun. Its not done too bad either.

Cool I bet it did! But why did you not use coat of arms that could really help in a rat deck cince it was made out of only rats. that is what I would have done.

The reason Coat of Arms isn't  in the deck I posted is that it is a standard format deck, and in standard Coat of Arms is not currently legal.

GREEN WHITE!!! i love using Armada Wurms and Trostani (cant forget the Oblivion Rings), health re-gen and populate is one of my favorite decks to use. (Especially on two headed giant, just sitting in the corner quietly then bam! swipe for 40!)

Just got back from my local Gatecrash prerelease. It was awesome! 

 

In the morning prelrease I came 1st overall with an Orzhov/Boros hybrid (My box was for orzhov). My deck in that one was quite fast as I got 4 Truefire Paladins, 3 Wojek Halberdiers and a bunch of high toughness extort creatures. Fun times.

 

In the second one I played a simic/gruul hybrid deck with a whole bunch of big creatures. I didn't do as well in that one and came 6th (Mana screwed a few times).

Simic seemed to get mana-screwy for me as well. I went to my prerelease event and chose Simic. I did, however, buy a Simic Intro pack to add to my collection and lo and behold, I landed Gideon. I couldn't do the tourney because I had previous engagements, but I at least got the sealed stuff ^.^

I got more than 6 shock lands 3 of witch where watery graves. And a bunch of boros rares at my prerelease when I opened a boros box. So I got 4th place witch is good for me. I got 6 packs from my winnings and the only good things I got was the Prime Speaker Zegana. And a foil clan defiance.

Naturally, I prefer Red/Black decks.

 

So I picked up the return to ravnica "Rakdos Raid" deck a few days ago.

 

I played a three way free for all with my friend, and my teacher, and I destroyed them :3

(They both have black decks, and I had five creatures on the battlefield with swampwalk )

 

I threw in a few other cards that work with the deck too

 

(For those curious, my friend was using a black red deck based around tokens and my teacher was using a black vampire deck)

 

After awhile, I decided for no reason in particular to play a batshit insane "gamemode" (not really a gamemode, just has tons of enchantments activated) that I like to call "Rakdos Rave"

 

Here are the rules I used:

 

 

It's best played with Red/Black decks and it is absolute hell.

 

If you are missing any of the cards, just print them off :3

 

All instances of "Dormant" means that the card is on the battlefield, but it is only activated when it's mana cost is payed. If it is targeted by a card that says "Destroy target creature/enchantment/Artifact/etc." The card instead becomes dormant again. It can be activated by any number of players at a time.

 

Rules:

1. All creatures have Unleash and (optionally) Scavenge. If you choose to have scavenge, the creature's scavenge cost is their mana cost -1. (if it is above 2)

 

2. This card:

Is dormant on the battlefield.

 

3.

This card is always active. If it is the target of "Destroy target enchantment/permanent/card, it becomes dormant instead.

 

4.

This is always active and can NOT be destroyed or become dormant.

 

5.

Starts off dormant.

 

6.

Starts off dormant.

I have that card in my Rakdos Commander deck. It's basically the entire Rakdos philosophy condensed into one card, and I love it.

I came 2nd in the Gatecrash Gameday event today. Got me a nice foil full art Firemane Avenger and a full art Zamek Guildmage.

 

Still, what I like more is that I got two Boros Reckoners in my prize boosters, which completes my playset. Not having to buy them as singles is awesome!

So, Sorin vs Tibalt looks great. By current prices, the cards in it are worth about $50, and you can get it for $20 at pretty much any store. Obviously, prices will go down a bit once it comes out, but it's still great value.

And the decks just look fun to play with

Its not the decks I like that much (They are as bad as most duel decks are), its that it has a bunch of cool cards I'm gonna use in my modern spirit deck that I'm making and some nice cards for EDH (Mortify, Death Grasp, Browbeat, Sulfuric Vortex, Ancient Craving) with nice new borders.

Well yeah, I'm mostly getting this because after I sell/trade the Hellrider and Hellsparks, I'm basically paying $2 for a bunch of EDH tech. But as with any dual deck, I always play a few games with them for fun. Some, like the Koth deck, I liked enough that I traded for some cheap cards to make an actual mountains.dec. It helped that I had 2 extra Koths from SOM/INN standard. Both these decks look like pretty normal deck types, just sucky. Still might be fun, though.

 

Also, loving the new art in these. Now my Ghave deck will have alt art Mortify and Putrefy

I was amazed to find this here but hey you should always be open. I just started playing magic and i have found that Black is by-far the best choice for me i love the flavor text that comes with these cards and the effects. Bringing back from the dead and boosting my life by sucking you dry! Its a win win... Although you come at me with a good White deck and i am good as dead... But then again i am just a begginer.

Hey guys I just built two decks and am wondering what you guys think.  Their still coming in the mail so I haven't had time to test them out yet.  One is a "Land" deck, it has 50 lands, 10 of each color.  It has 4 of each type of Zendikon plus 3 creatures whose power and toughness are equal to the amount of lands I control.  Then I have a lot of spells that deal damage or give me life equal to the mana I spend.  The flag ship is a spell that makes me win the game if I have a land and permanent of each color when I cast it.

 

Then I have a land destroying deck that has 25 destroy land spells, and about 10 creatures that destroy lands, plus about 15 cheap creatures with haste.  It's an all red deck and is only 65 cards about.
