did anyone go to the born of the gods prerelease last week? if so any exciting pulls?

 

i went but had really unlucky pulls, ended up 0-5 but it was still fun. only notable cards were a phenax and a temple of silence both of which i traded for fiendslayer paladins for my sideboard.

I went to the prerelease a few days ago. I lost 1-3, and the one thing I won was a bye. I got one booster pack for getting 1 point. I opened, it, and I found Mogis, God of Slaughter. I pretty much died right there!

That's awesome! Mogis is probably my favourite out of the new gods. Xenagos may have a more potent effect but i just love the choice associate with Mogis. i guess i forgot to say i had  a bye as well so technically i went 1-4

I had to work on the pre-release and release days, so I haven't opened any BotG yet. I'll probably draft it a few times, but that's it. There's very little I want from this set anyway :/

I want to get into Magic and need some help. I went to my local comic store last weekend and I got an awesome deal of 850 cards from a player built peasant deck for 15 dollars. A guy there explained in the back room some basics

Creature, instances, enchantments, environments and so on. It seems really elaborate and I need some help on skype if anyone can.

My comic store has free card play(any card game) every wednesday and saturdays are tournaments for Magic only.

I'd be happy to run you through some stuff over skype. (pm for my skype if you want)

 

The best way to get into it is find some people who would be interesting in starting too, then just play a lot and discover the rules as they arise. If you want to play more competetively, you should decide which format you want to play (standard, modern, legacy, EDH) as each format has different legal cards. Also, i suggest finding the colour(s) that interest you most, and focus on refining one deck idea.

Selesnya is mostly played as an aggressive midrange deck in competitive standard these days. as such some cards dont fit too well are:

 

-Nylea

-Kalonian Hydra

-karametra

-nykthos

-elvish mystic

 

some cards you should look into:

 

-boon satyr

-soldier of the pantheon (very important in this deck)

-ajani, caller of the pride

-scavenging ooze

-brimaz

-precinct captain

-archangel of thune

 

and some good ones for your sideboard are:

 

-rootborn defenses

-skylasher

-banisher priest

-mistcutter hydra

-sundering growth

 

everything else looks good but i might put unflinching courage on the sideboard.

I only play standard though, all I've played this standard is esper/American/uw/mono blue and mono black! I'm really curious to see what the control environment will be after rotation... No sphinx'srevelation or verdict

So, I heard this rumor that they are getting rid of core sets and changing the formats.

I haven't played MtG in a while, but I've all of a sudden got Journey into Nyx and Born of the Gods fat packs thanks to the generosity of a cousin (who sometimes buys things they end up not wanting lol).  Haven't even gone completely through either yet to see if I can make me a passable solo green or green / other deck. xD  I was never the strongest deckbuilder; at least partly due to my love of certain archetypes and themes.  "I shall make an INSECT deck!  Fear my 1/1 flying butterfly token that spawns once my caterpillar is slain!"  That's one of the reasons I love Yu-Gi-Oh: even some of the cutest / strangest / weakest-looking monsters can make for a decent deck.

 

I first started playing / collecting right before the release of Mirage (1996), but nobody mistake me for a "veteran" (not that anyone would *sad face*) and bombard me with terms lol.  I likely won't know what you're talking about. xD  My fave set was Ice Age for a while, but I totally forget why.  Gave away all my old cards, picked up collecting again with the Mirrodin block, and then got freebie cards from cousin.  Then posted in this topic.  The end.

I finally got out of Standard completely, now I just play EDH and Modern. I recently built Blue Moon in Modern, but I don't have Cryptics or Cliques yet, so it's not as good as it could be. I have everything else, but I havne't played it in a tournament yet, so who knows how good it'll be.

They will make an m16 is what i hear, because of the two pack sets, when m16 comes out, the first pack of the khans block will rotate out because it is still a three pack set.

+find a friend

+use the woogerworks server to connect (the old servers are down)

+go to copperdog dot com

+generate boosters

+build a deck in cockatrice from the boosters you drafted

+play your friend online

+????
+profit!

 

Things that are awesome about MtG:

+Gameplay

+Flavour texts (they're freaking funny and/or clever)

+oldest and most complex tcg

 

Things that are not:
-You look like a total nerd goofball playing mtg, and you can't do anything about it (justifying it only makes it worse)

Luckily I managed to trade 3 back in the days, but land recursion is a very tricky built anyway. I've had plans and drafts for a deck for a long time now.
