The outside is a dangerous place. I haven't experienced it itself, but I've played several 'Outside' Simulators. If you want good idea of what the 'Outside' is like, play the simulator 'Grand Theft Auto IV'.

You can go outside, if you can walk, then go outside, it is very different and I think you might enjoy it, you can get a good idea of what the outside might look like if you play simcity or watched a video of the game.

Yea, don't go there. It's like a some kind of MMORPG, except that they've cut all the weapons and magic out in beta, the quest givers rarely give you exact information, merchants usually only sell items, and there are way too many users. (I still wonder how do they prevent lags with such a massive amount of users.)

Ah, and they also tried to add ponies to ,,outside" to make it more interesting for us bronies. Though they look awful, like some generation 1 ponies, so yea, it's not worth it.
