What about for threads showcasing our art in which there are multiple parts? (i.e. Mane 6 as Power Rangers but so far we only have Rainbow as the Green Ranger done and the rest will be posted later), does the staff want us to either a.) edit and update the OP of the thread or b.) begin an entirely new topic ?

I guess a small description can be placed with the posting of the new part of the series later in the thread but what if everything that needed to be said about the series was done in the OP?

(Yes I'm identitfying loopholes lol)

Huh.

This is the first site I've ever seen implement such a rule. I'm probably in trouble now~

Oh well. I'll just stick to lurking then, unless I can think of a long response to stuff I lurk in.

There's no need to stick to lurking. After all, you just wrote something that was larger than 100 characters. See, it's really not that bad. ;)

Also, you will never get in trouble on this site for offering respectable feedback on site policies. That is why we have this area of the forum - to hear from users. :)

thank gawd for this, I've seen RP'ers that have more than a thousand posts in RP world, and some of the posts aren't even that good.....

That's the point of this new system. It sets up a whole new bar for RPers and others to take on. Anyone can tackle the challenge, though... They just have to try.

And this is why I personally asked for 200 characters - same as Life Advice. It annoyed me too, you know. I mean, they're getting all these posts that count and it's adding up to raise their badge. Not really fair. Then again, we had that problem board-wide.

Anyway, I approve of this. Well, for obvious reasons. But yeah. I myself have a built-in post filter outside of Cloudsdale. I don't actually allow myself to post too short of posts.

I would personally consider 100 - 200 characters too short in certain areas of the forums, but certainly a welcome change in the direction I've been pressing for.

And for the record, I can 100% guarantee every post I make will have 100 characters. No white text, no invisible characters, no tricks. Regardless of horizontal length, the posts are always far over 100 characters. It is the advantage of the forums using Arial Black as a font. Which, I may add, is second best pony, next to Lucidia Console.

Oh, and by the way, Life advice should probably be higher than 200. Most people go well over that as is. The longer, the better. Dunno how forum games or stuff work now, or how the "We can only talk in pictures thread" or the "(number) word story" etc. threads work now. Some threads were designed with brevity and wit in mind above length. And besides, in Cloudsdale Colliseum, you generally aren't looking for well thought out posts.

The secret is that some characters in Arial Black count as more than one character.

Then you are cheating the system. You cheat the system, you cheat yourself. I would suggest just waiting until you have a proper response to anything anyone says before posting if you really need to use another font just to get past the system.

I don't disagree to be honest, but at the same time we'd prefer not to be too invasive if we can help it. The minimums can always be revisited at any point in the future if the existing numbers turn out to be insufficient. :)

All posts in the Life Advice and Roleplay World boards from here on out must be at least two hundred characters in length. Meanwhile, all posts elsewhere (except Cloudsdale, which remains without a limit) will carry with them a one hundred character minimum.

I am contemplating contributing to this thread in a meaningful fashion and hence exceeding 100 characters, which will undoubtedly prove that my post is intellectually driven and contains meaningful substance, hence contributing to important and serious discourse as a consequence.

Forcing people to make longer posts won't necessarily increase the quality of posts. It's causation, not correlation.

My only sadness about this is that the content of threads where I post the most are defined more by the song you give than the words you say. I'd often just drop a few videos in the metal thread and watch discussion pop up around them.

But it's a better system for everyone involved, that's easy to see.

Cool.

xD It's a good thing we're changing this ^_^ I do find very short posts really annoying, they hardly express anything and it gets frustrating...Though now I'm going to worry about the amount of characters in my posts xD

If a post sounds like it is pointless with no real substance pertaining to the topic at all, it can still be reported as such no matter how lengthy or short the post is.

I understand that 100 characters isn't hard at all to get and it helps eliminate one/two word posts/spam, but I still think it's a tad overkill. I have times where I can barely get anything to add past "i agree" or "that's good" in a topic/art thread I'm actually interested in. The extra needed is possibly to make me and anyone else who normally doesn't have much to say or add lurk that much more.

Thanks, it is a good idea honestly. The upside is over time you will learn to type in complete sentences. I am for it. Downside, no time to post, and it gets deleted. :(

That is so true it isn't even funny. I'm still against RP counting as official posts.

No offense, but what does that add to a discussion? If all you're really doing is expressing agreement or approval of another post, you can always do so by way of the Brohoof button.

We'd rather have fewer quality posts than a ton of pointless posts that don't really contribute anything.

If I were to offer one little tidbit of suggestion/opposition, it would be to make the art forums lower. I think 50 would be reasonable for those forums from both the user's perspective that they won't have to draw out and ramble on about their feelings towards the art work and from the staff's perspective that it's more than just 3-4 words of feedback toward the art.

Finally! A forum that got more than a teaspoonful of common sense!

But what about those peeps who will get around this limitation with writing senseless invisible words?

Like...> asasasasasasas_oh_god_100_characters_is_too_much_asasasa

And is it possible to get some character counter in the reply windows? Just for simplicity

So now I can't post witty, single sentence responses?

*posting career over*

(This sentence was added to increase the number of characters in this post, thus allowing me to post it.)

This is really needed. Lately, some of the small "3 word posts" have been really bugging me. This rule will help fight that stuff.

Thanks, yet again, Mods! :D

True. I can recall a time where I have said something that added to discussion in less than 100 characters, but still. What about the majority of people who make small posts that contribute nothing? I'd rather just put a little more time into each post, rather than have half of every thread filled with small replies.

Unfortunately, though, people can just say random things at the bottom of their posts to avoid the post limit. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png
