Kanto: Charmander... BEST POKEMON EVAR. Howver Squirtle and Bulbasaur both rock

Johto: Cyndaquil. Totodile is cool as well, Chikorita isn't.

Hoenn: Tie between Mudkip and Treecko. Torchic is meh

SInnoh: CHimchar. Turtwig is cool, Piplup is not

Yeah, fire starters have gone downhill after they tried desperately to emulate Blaziken in the fire/fighting department. This even extends to Black/white in deciding between a grass snake, "Blaziken knockoff #2" or a freaking sea-lion samurai.

Unova was pretty lame, I agree. All the starters look lame. Oshawott looks too much like Piplup IMO, Tepig is just ugly and reminds me of a carpet because that's what teppich means in German (and that's how you'd pronounce Tepig in German), and Snivy is just weird looking.

Edit: (But if I had to choose a favorite it would be Oshawott )

Well I do like Blaziken, but Infernape is just a lot cooler imo, and used to be overall a lot better until Blaziken got Speed Boost, but that just made him broken anyway, so Infernape is still officially better!

G/S/C: Cyndaquil, because Typholosion is badass

D/P: Only played it once on emulator so idk. I picked Piplup because I like water starters

FR/LG: Charmander. This tiny lizard dude learns Ember at a very early level, learns metal claw at level 13 (wipes out Brock pretty easily), and learns Flamethrower relatively quickly as well. When it evolves, you've got your transport guy through the air.

 

GSC: Cyndaquil. What I liked about GSC is that Thunderpunch was a TM, and Typhlosion could learn a variety of physical moves as well (OK, like any other starter, but the combo of Thunderpunch, Flamethrower, Earthquake and another move proves to be more than worthwhile).

 

RSE: Treecko. Once it evolves into Sceptile, it can learn the almighty Dragon Claw. Coupled with an insane speed stat and very high special attack stat, it makes for a very good special sweeper. Treecko can also take down most of the gym leaders (excluding Flannery) with ease (Brawly's a bit of an exception, but that Leaf Blade move works wonders later on in all games).

 

Not counting DPP because I've never played it...

He learns some good moves, plus Charizard can learn fly, which comes in handy quite often.
