What can I ask for my birthday?

Alright. I'm turning 17 on the 21st. Woo hoo? I don't really make a big deal out of birthdays. Every year, though, my guardians feel the need to buy me.. something. Just something. I don't like talking about our financial status, but we kind of... have money. Enough to where, if I were to ask for something that's $60, I would get a response along the lines of, "Okay, and what else?" Last year, I got a new laptop, clothes, and just a lot of miscellaneous things that really would just take up time trying to list. It's pretty important to mention that I really do NOT like receiving presents, because it makes me feel horrible. You know, wasting money and whatnot. And also, there's really nothing that I even want, which is why I'm making this thread.

I've tried reasoning with my guardians that I really don't need or even want all these presents, but they won't hear anything of it. I'm guessing the only reason I didn't get a car for my "Sweet 16" is because where I live, you have to be 16 to even get your permit, and so they figured that they would just wait until next year, so I could actually drive around, since I would have my license by then. I would actually really really hate getting a car. That would... No. Just no.

The only things that I even "want" are little nendoroid figurines of my favourite anime characters, and then the blu-ray copies of my favourite anime, but all this stuff seems like a waste of money to me, so I'd rather not get any of it. I'm already happy with all the things I have. I actually have too much. And it really just makes me feel horrible that I am allowed to get all these crazy ridiculous, expensive luxuries, whenever there's a lot more people who struggle just keeping themselves fed. They really won't listen to me whenever I explain my thoughts on the matter, and also, they refuse to just give me money, because they think that I'd give pretty much all of it to charity, which, they're right, I would.

But enough rambling, I guess. What do you think I could ask for? I'd preferably like to get something useful rather than amazingly fun or awesome, and a car is not a valid answer (we have multiple cars, and I don't go to enough places to need my own). I really don't like much. The only things I like are anime, music (almost only electronic genres), and literature. Books aren't expensive enough for them to be satisfied, and there's nothing I can really do with the kind of music that I like, and then as I said, anime is pretty much a waste of money (it's pretty expensive). I'm kind of at a loss over this, and I hate it. I'd rather just have a day of peace and quiet at the house, all alone, but that's pretty impossible to achieve with my guardians being the way they are.

Get a paintball gun! Paintball is awesome you should totally go and try it. It will make you a better shooter too so it will actually be a useful gift

I really don't see why I'd need to be a better shooter.. Also, I'm a really big sissy girly girl, to most peoples' surprise. Paintball doesn't seem like.. it'd be.. fun..

Self defense of course!@ You're turning 17! time to stop being big sissy girl and become awesome amazoness hunter.

Really though it's fun. but If you don't want to try paintball I would suggest a half year membership to a rock climbing club place or sky diving or archery or skating. So many awesome experiences to be had and skills to gain!!

If you don't want something that hurts so much as paintball you could try airsoft. Tons of fun. I took a CQC class for my 12th birthday. You never know when you could use those skills

Wait, your parents wouldn't be happy to see you give money for charity? What do they want you to do, invest in a mutual fund?

Honestly, I think you should say to your parents, if you're not satisfied with the gifts you're getting, say "Look, I really don't want anything really expensive this year, just buy me a good book or something." You're at the age where you can assert yourself intelligently, you shouldn't have to worry about what your parents think. I know that they apparently don't listen, but maybe they simply haven't gotten the picture yet.

Wait... you should ask them for a 1786 replica edition of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica or some other expensive book(s). Get some first edition copy of some great novel and they might be satisfied. Or you can ask them to build an extra room for you at your house so you can have some private space to do some reading... but you might already have even that...

They aren't my parents, I feel the need to say.

Also, I do have a small, study-like room of my own that has quite a lot of books in there. And at $195, it'd still be not enough. My guardians like to waste a lot of money. They're pretty outrageous people.

It's amazing how much you sond like me ><

My parents constantly call me stingy and what not for not spending my. Ash, when really I just don't see the point in wasting it on things when others have nothing :/

Anyways, maybe you can buy something that also gives money to charity (like charity's sales of stuff signed from Tara strong ect) that way they are buying you stuff and giving money to charity so kinda a win win?

Ask for them to open up a savings account for you if you haven't already.

Electric scooter/mopeds are good for getting around without needing a license...

You could get ask for an apprenticeship...

You could get the gifts and ask for the reciepts, then return them and put the money towards the bills.

You could ask to go eat at a schwanky restruant.

Gift cards.

A laptop.

Ask for them to hire a financial advisor for you, then ask for tips on stock, then invest.
