The Unofficial Guide to Avoiding Forum Drama!

Skullbuster

Recommended Posts

You would not believe how many times I've typed out some long-winded response, and right before I hit post, I asked myself:

Is anyone going to read this? With my track record, will anyone take me serious? Can this be misunderstood?

The reason I don't top 50 or 60 posts a day anymore is because half the time when I'm RIGHT there, about to post a response that took me half an hour to type, I just click and go right back to the homepage. I've come to the conclusion, that if I'm not totally needed, than there's no real point to post there.

Onto statuses, they rarely do any good nowadays. Almost all of the drama stems from them and I cannot say that I am an exception. However you can't remove them as they are a vital tool in our communication.

Woah, let me slow you down right there. You haven't been on the Internet long. Obviously Feld0 has some sense of what he's doing. From my personal experience, these mods know what they're doing. They're not sauntering around or trying to knock each other down. They aren't trying to hold personal vendettas with other users (guilty as charged, C4B). This place has some of the most classy mods I've seen. If I thought this moderating team was bad, why would I be here? Mind you, I'm not even this forum's target audience. If any one thing unappealed to me, you can bet I wouldn't be typing this.

The mods on this site are just like every other site I've been on, pretty much nonexistent except for the occasional locked thread, except this is the only site that praises them.

And once again, Feld0 is a person. He picked a bunch of users he thought were good. He's not a God who magically knows who the best mod is.

I've been on a TON of sights, and these are some of the best mods I've seen. And...that's not saying much. First of all, I never said Feld0 doesn't know what he's doing. He owns 2, going on 3 websites. What I'm saying is that Skull said that BECAUSE Feld0 picked these mods, they must be good. That's just stupid. People change with power.

As for that last part, they have flaws. So what I'm saying is most of them are good, but they're NOT perfect. People praise the mods as if they're omnipotent Gods. They're fans of My Little Pony who got chosen because they make some good posts. Whee.

So yes, they have flaws, and yes, they have showed those flaws, and you're pretty inactive if you haven't seen that. Does that mean they're bad? No! But if anyone EVER criticizes them ten users jump out of the shadows holding up their "Mods are da best!" signs. It's ridiculous and stupid. Yes, we can complain about the administration here. It has flaws. Things can be changed. Stop acting like the staff here is ALWAYS right.

I think I see some drama starting in this very thread.......that, or I am paranoid .

I find drama funny, unless it really does sound serious, then of course, I don't find it funny

It's a forum for my little pony fans. Unless something explosive happens, that worst situation would be two users would hate each other. "Drama" is just a tiny insignificant thing that exists in statuses and angsty poems that people HAVE to blow out of proportion and act like it's a good deal by spamming statuses and the feedback center with "HERE COMES DRAMA"

What this forum NEEDS is to grow up and ignore some things.

Is it just me, or does anybody else find it hilarious how...

1. Thread extols the virtues of ignoring posts that might lead to drama

2. A bunch of people agree with that bit of wisdom

3. Somebody starts an argument

4. A bunch of people forget all about steps 1 and 2

5. ???

6. Profit

Dude, that stopped being funny a week after South Park came up with it. You're also doing it wrong. Four question marks, not three.

The issue, if there even is one to begin with, is people shuddering in fear of POTENTIAL drama whenever someone brings up a point even remotely controversial. There is nothing wrong with what Fizzy is saying. To an extent, I even agree with him.

You're only proving him right by dismissing him as a firestarter without even considering what he's trying to say. He acknowledged the moderators as being regular people. Not too big a deal.

stuff

I will now use the above post to demonstrate how to correctly avoid "drama" over non-issues in internet pony land:

*ignores Dr. Veece*

Easy. Now everybody try!

Don't you see the irony in cutting one's self off from discussion on an Internet forum due to the chance that drama might arise from differing viewpoints clashing? It's a forum. It comes with the packaging and to deny that reality is to completely misconstrue the point of a forum at its core.

as long as the two participants can express their views in a civil manor, then it is fine, it is when you can not do so with out resorting to insults and such is when you should walk away
