I loved the first Godfather movie. I would also count Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, Bedazzled (1960s version), and the movie adaption of Little Shop of Horrors among my favorite movies of all time.

Essentially, I feel that anything with Tom Hanks is immediately hotter better. ;)

1: Shawshank redemption: Wonderful film. Lovable characters. A story about a man caught in unfortunate events, trapped in the claws of the system and what it does to people who get on the wrong side of the currently declared form of justice at the time. His triumph is done in many ways, helping others, helping himself and reminding the convicted that though the walls around them may be gray that their souls shine just a bright despite the stains of their current live or past deeds if they allow it to. His victory and camaraderie with his long time friend at the end is once again a testament to his refusal to surrender to isolation or despair that his past would normally force upon most men. It is a movie that brings hope...emotions and inspiration to escape my own prison of commodity and doubt that comes with all student wondering if they will make it in the outside world.

2: One who flew over the cukcoo's nest: Pretty much the same reasons as shawshank...at least in spirit although there are of course many different factors. The tale reminds us that even in inevitable defeat that our actions can still bring some sort of victory, one that may be forever changing to the lifes of other that we come in contact with. Sometimes, we are in scenarios we can't win and sometimes things are lost to those we hate but in a world with over bearing factors against you, what you do still counts.

3: Forest Gump: Its a nice story about a man with little ambition and lacking mind but with a heart to make up for it. He dosen't always truly understand his own emotion or even the dire scenario of others around him at points but none the less he becomes a fully successful fellow both in spirit and in society. His disabilities never held him down, in fact they made him who he is. His lack of understanding, or at least lack of true recognition of the things he done or the things happening at times around him-although he sort of gets it and comes off as just simple in perspective-its that which gives him a child like care to the world and those he loves. Hes a man that survived and made it despite his simplicity and his issues. He is...in many ways..derpy...placed in the real world. It is his mistakes that make him who he is and while his mistakes genetically should hold him down, give him a single characteristic that brings him into our hearts and hands him his fruitful life.

4:Sweeney Todd: It calls with a charm of Victorian times and yet the stunning grin of a grim dark universe. Mixed with wonderful singing, good acting and actually some decently written songs and well done scenes then topped with a cherry of an interesting re imagining of the character. It has an effect on me, it is...a milder way for me to get my dark thrill which is left un-explored or poorly done by most media these days.

5:Anything with Arnold Schwarzenegger: I don't need to go into detail...hes a muscled movie star, fully in there as a icon of action. Hes got it all, the masculine features, the rough but hard voice, the decent hair along with cool fight scenes. Lots and lots of killing, actual good movies with good ideas and twist under his belt and a whole rack of one liners along with a good joke even in the most dangerous of titles. Technically not a movie but movies. Sure, he had some bad movies...its going to happen..yeah..his attempt to turn to pure comedy in movies can be a little painful. But...it was a ballsy move and a good attempt, he didn't just stay in his shell and over all he had a pretty good run.

6:Dark Knight Rises: I don't really need to say anything...this isn't too old, most people here both young and old would of seen it and know why I like it so much. It is so far the only one though with a villain/villains I guess that I like from the series. Joker and Two face are a pair I've always really liked. I don't really care that about scare crow or Bane although I am...the small fraction that find the Mad Hatter a very interesting character...sadly..I have to accept that he isn't just main cast material. Hes a great support character if done right-such as arkham asylum handling of him and the animated series-but he can't carry a movie on his own. His premise for crime is sheer insanity -psychotic breakdown with love obsession..maybe a schizoid love obsession..or pure acute paranoid obsessive schizophrenia-in both cases hes too crazy. Its most likely he would have to be reworked to fit in the movie if he was in it.

A Head Butt is just a more confrontational meeting of the minds.

Since I am a Film Studies student, I am always exposed to new movies. However, I think my top favorite list has remained fairly consistant over the years (although, I have added a few recently). In no particular order, my random group of favorites are:

Mulholland Drive

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Little Miss Sunshine

Elf

Black Swan

Donnie Darko

Bridesmaids

Mean Girls

Sunset Blvd

Harold and Maude

Finding Nemo

Hercules

Spider-Man 2

A Letter to Three Wives

Alol. I told you it was random!

Runners-up?

American Beauty

Superbad

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

Melancholia

Inception

Charlie Bartlet

Carrie

Where the Wild Things Are

Spirited Away

Miss Congeniality

Parenthood

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

And a few movies that USED to be my favorites but upon rewatch sort of suck...

Grease

The Babysitter's Club

The Lion King 2

Rent

I for one really love Shawshank Redemption. It is just such a good movie. The plot is amazing and the acting is really good. Morgan Freeman makes it even better. If you've never seen it, you deserve to. If you haven't seen it in a while, I'd recommend seeing it soon.

Inception (after watching it several times), Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, History of the World: Part I (yes, I love Mel Brooks), The Dark Knight, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Harry Potter series, and the Indiana Jones series are all great movies I love watching, just to name a few.

I am not going to be ignorant and decide what movie is "best", but i can tell you some of my favourite movies..

Kick-Ass, The Dark Knight, Megamind and 1408

Funny thing with The Dark Knight is that if you look at The Dark Knight Rises, you realize that it was good by accident. Over the top plans and plot twists work when you have a bad guy like Joker. The new movie was terrible. It was the same, except it felt wrong because of the different villain.

I am sure there other good movies that i just cannot remember just at the moment. Too tired to think.

I wish I could explain why, but Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and 12 Angry Men are my all time top 2 and they're both a tie. The acting and storylines are great, but in reality you can find those two things in all sorts of movies. I really wish I could explain why I like these movies so much yet as much as I love them I simply can't. These movies have actually inspired me in many ways.

Lord of the Rings. It's Lord of the Freakin' Rings. No more explanation necessary.

The Expendables/Expendables 2. They're stupid, but in an awesome sort of way. They're so over-the-top it's unbelievable, but with the all-star cast and epic action scenes, you barely even notice.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Same reasons for epicosity as The Expendables. It's stupid, but SO enjoyable. Movies like this understand something that a lot of movies these days don't: How to be genuinely fun. Watching this movie is an absolute joy.

The Secret of Kells. An indie film that exceeds on all levels. The animation is superb, the story is engaging, and the voice work is pretty great. (Gee, do those reasons sound familiar?) The movie as a whole is very relaxing, yet manages to keep the viewer enticed throughout the entire film.

The director's cut of Watchmen is one of the best recent films. Also, Prometheus.

As for older films, I'd have to go with any John Candy comedy, specifically Planes, Trains and Automobiles or Uncle Buck.

Tie betweeb Despicable Me and The Lion King, thought that may change in December with the Hobbit and Les Mis coming out.

And here's why;

The Lion King; amazing music, plot and possibly the best solely-Disney movie ever produced. (As in, Pixar doesn't count.) If every Disney movie was like the Lion King, we wouldn't have to fear for Star Wars. (Though some good can come out of that, like what if Indiana Jones and the Curse of the Black Pearl happenned?)

Despicable Me-funny, cute, good twist and a nice movie all around. Can't wait for sequel even though no one knows what it's about

AKIRA is one of the best movies ever.

When I say that, I do not mean that it is just a personal favorite of mine, but that I sincerely believe that the movie is blatantly better at doing what it sets out to do moreso than any other movie chosen at random.

Specifically, make sure to see the version dubbed into English by Pioneer Pictures in 2001. I am not even remotely a fan of the "genre" that the movie is from.

The Dark Night. Heath Ledger as the joker=Best movie ever (Rest in peace good sir)

Surfs Up. The animation is good, The story is AWESOME. And, They got real surfers to do the voices of the interviewers.

The lord of the rings trilogy. The acting was amazing, And the Effects were awesome, Considering the time it was made.

Cargo. This is a Swiss movie with English subtitles. I thought this movie was awesome, The acting was good and it had an awesome plot.

The Woman In Black (2012) I have seen this movie before, I know when all the scary scenes are but I still can't watch it with the volume all the way it...Its so freaking scary. The positioning of the camera's made this movie so awesome. If you haven't seen it, I suggest watching it, And don't just focus on what you are mean't to focus on, Look at the mirrors or look for shadows on the side of the screen  ^_^

Those are the only movies I can really think of right myaw.

Beauty and the Beast- The best Walt Disney film of all time anyone? This is also one of the few movies I never really cared for when I was kid yet I grew up to love.

Hunchback of Notre Dame-As a Disney fanatic, this movie is truly epic. The songs are the best Disney has to offer, the story is dark, but still worked as a Disney film and the animation is jaw-dropping. It's horribly underrated. I do hate the gargoyles, but annoying side characters will never over shadow my love for the rest of the film.

Any of the Toy Story films- It probably has more to do with nostalgia than I'd personally like to admit, but they're still amazing movies. I don't care what anyone else says, TS3 was the best movie of 2010.

Titanic- This film is a technical achievement-even by today's standards- emotionally touching and the story and characters are great. My only complaint? The writing is CHEESY. Even so, it's almost like the cheesy writing gives the movie even more charm.

The Princess Bride- This film will be remembered as a true classic, and for very good reasons. It's smart, fun and was one of my family's favorites. Rewatching it when I'm older, yeah, it's definitely one of my favorites.

Back to the Future- I love it for the same reasons everyone else loves it. It's funny, memorable and the plot is awesome. I never exactly cared for the sequels though.

My favourite movie huh? Hmmm... Now that I think of it I would have too say Spirit. The Disney movie about horses. Since I've always familiarized myself with equestrians - I consider myself an "otherkin", btw - it felt like a movie I could personally relate too, sort of like Mother's can relate to some Lifetime films, ect.
