We all know that Twi, Fluttershy, and Pinkie all went insane before. We also know that some...interesting fanfics have sprung up from them.:wacko::angry:

However, we have three characters who haven't been insane; Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity.

Who do you think is most likely to go insane next? And who least?

I think the most likely would be Rarity; she seems so obsessed with fashion and all, and her drama queeness does make it more likely.

Least likely would be Applejack; she's so level-headed nothing would deter her. Ironically, I'm working on a fanfic that does involve her going insane.

So what do you think? :)

Um... "Suited for Success" is nothing but Rarity going insane... or least having a nervous breakdown or a freak out or whatever phrase you wish to use to denote a radical change in personality and psychology due to external stress and pressure.

Ditto with Applejack, in "Applebuck Season". She certainly was not in a normal state of mind in that episode.

Ditto with Rainbow Dash in "Sonic Rainboom".

All right, those are slightly less extreme examples than for the other 3, but still.

You know what I mean, they're just freaking out, sleep-deprived, and nervous respectively. Twi, Flutters, and Pinkie's are more extreme, and that's what I meant.

I understand, I just don't agree that there is any real difference apart from the severity. They have all been in a state where they can no longer interact normally or rationally with the world around them. The usually dependable and helpful Applejack ends up being a walking disaster zone, Rarity locks herself away for days in her room, and even contemplates going into exile. Thinking more about it, though, I'd agree that RD hasn't had a major breakdown since her freak-out only lasted for a few minutes, and she recovered rather quickly. I stand by what I said for AJ and Rarity at least.

You can't call what Rarity does "going crazy". That's just Rarity being a Rarity.

I think of AJ and RD, it depends. Both will go crazy over a few things. Can't say who first.

I doubt Applejack would ever lose her sanity. She seems like the most mentally sane of the mane cast. If she did, there better be a solo country musical number to go with.

I see Rainbow not cracking as easily either. She seems to be able to keep her cool, even in dire situations. Although, I liked how Sonic Rainboom gave her development and showed she that she seems to suffer from having too much pressure put on her, which results in stage fright. That could happen again.

Rarity kind of already went crazy in Suited for Success and a more minor time in Best Night Ever. If it were a whole episode centering around her disappointing everypony (like, literally, everypony) or not keeping up with being the element of generosity again, maybe.

"Whats genius, without a bit of insanity?"

Whe ever i think of insanity i always think of that quote. Forget who said it though. The quote probably slightly different though.

I think it would be either Rainbow or Rarity. But since Raritys more dramatic i would love to see her go insane... ya know now that i'm imagining it, her going insane seems quite frightening somehow.

If it happens i'm gonna have nightmares, i'm calling it now.

it's a sad day when differing types of mental illness are put into hierarchies of severity. I mean those instances were as bad as each other.

The love is the sword. you attack with talks of hugs and friendship. As if they were hurtful.

The tolerance is the shield. you ignore whatever the hater says.

The only way to make Rainbow Dash truly insane would be a direct challenge to her element. Divided Loyalties taken to an extreme level could push her over the edge and make her 10 times more reckless than she normally is.

Think the challenge that was given to Spiderman. "Spider-Man! This is why only fools are heroes — because you never know when some lunatic will come along with a sadistic choice. Let die the woman you love... or suffer the little children! Make your choice, Spider-Man, and see how a hero is rewarded!"

If you did something like that to rainbow dash on a deeper level, you could probably get her to crack. The main thing in her favor is that would be very difficult to accomplish in a Y-7 show.

Rarity. She's a drama queen and lets her emotions get the better of her. She's come quite close to going insane before, and given the right situation she'd be much worse.

Applejack is the most level-headed, so I think she's the least likely.

Not sure about Rainbow Dash, but I could see it happening. I think she'll try to start being more serious in Season 3, and won't have an easy time doing so.

Technically Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity haven't had a breakdown of the likes Pinkie, Twilight and Fluttershy have had but they've all come close.

This picture kinda sums it up:

I don't see how any of those examples actually counts as anypony going insane. Which takes to me to a more important point: none of the Mane 6 has ever really gone crazy. Since going crazy is something you don't come back from, and Twilight, Pinkie and Fluttershy all did. I say they all cracked under the pressure of tough situations, but did so in an exaggerated manner for entertainment purposes. Edited by TailsAlone

You are wrong in saying "you don't come back from" insanity. There have been cases where people have gone insane, been committed, and recovered from it. One person even wrote a book about the experience, I recall. Still, you have a point. "Temporary insanity" is probably the more suitable phrase for what happens to the ponies in the show.

You're right, I guess it's possible for people to come back. I'm kind of old-fashioned about that sort of thing, i.e. either you're crazy or you're not. But I've had my own experiences that suggest there's a gray area.

I do think the ponies' temporary insanity is more effective in pointing out something else that fascinates us: their 'dark sides.' These themes are exaggerated in fanfiction to no end, but even sticking to canon, they definitely exist. Fluttershy's episode left the biggest impression on me. I was stunned by how irrational and furious she became when the animals at the Gala didn't trust her and just ran away. It was funny and awesome, yes, but it also suggested some deep-seated rejection issues...unless I'm just reading my own fears into her character. ;)

I can't picture AJ or rarity going crazy per se, very depressed maybe but nothing approaching party of one level crazy.

Dash might go crazy if there was a conflict in loyalty, she might have gone crazy if the mare do well incident had gone on longer but it's hard to say.

I think they've all gone insane actually at one point. Maybe not quite as insane as the others, but its happened.

If you want to exclude the examples that someone above gave then i'd have to say it would be a bit odd on rarity. She can be seemingly insane but alot of times its just her being her. Rainbow dash going insane is possible atleast compared to applejack who normally is pretty calm and least likely. However it can happen to any of them.

I guess it depends on what you call going insane. I still believe you can consider they've all gone insane in there own way. Maybe not quite as insane as fluttershy twilight and pinkie but still.
