This Typo Has to be Stopped

It's just awful. It's horrible. It's disastrous. It's hideous. It must be stopped! The future of our fandom depends on it. Celestia's very existence depends on it!

"Apple Bloom". With a space. Get it right! That is all.

Now, since this alone wouldn't make a very good topic, I'll leave this question for discussion... Why did you think it was "Applebloom", as one word? I know the original name for the character was to be "Apple Blossom", but that later changed due to copyright issues. Maybe you just never gave it a thought before? I don't know, but I'd love to hear some answers!

I agree; on the wikia, they spelled her name with a space as well, and that's the correct way to spell it. It probably doesn't matter much, just like Big McIntosh versus Big Macintosh.

Wouldn't that make the Mc in McIntosh, like the Mc in McDonalds? I don't think that one will catch on, but eh, i've been wrong before...

Back when I wrote The Glowmelon Mystery, I'd originally written Apple Bloom as Applebloom. I think I only did so because of similar names such as Fluttershy; it's easy to see how someone could get it wrong when the series isn't consistent with its names. Luckily, my awesome editor Scootacool pointed out this mistake for me before I submitted the fic to EQD.

Nowadays, I have new problems. Like remembering that there is no hyphen in "Bon Bon".

You'd think that Apple Bloom would be all one name. Almost every other pony has that. Except for some (Twilight Sparkle, Shining Armour, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, I could keep going I guess....)

But still. I have no problem with it either way. Just as long as my name is spaced out.

Well you just saved me in a fanfic I am writing -- I had applebloom. As for why I simply do not know -- it seemed right that way -- I guess you do not see it typed out all that much. She didnt play a part in any previous fanfiction I have written. Well it will add a few words to a section or three. This is one I plan to send to fimfiction when I have the prolog + three parts complete and edited. Presently I have the prolog edited the 1st section in third draft, the 2nd in 2nd draft , and the 3rd 2/3rds done so I am getting close.

I changed it and it actually looks really weird to me as Apple Bloom.

Ok I have the reason why people do it as one word. It is because ponies with two names like "Twilight Sparkle" tend to be referred to by their first name only. You say Twilight. Apple Bloom is NEVER referred to as "Apple" which is why I thought of it as one word. Kind of like how applejack is one word.

That's a really interesting pattern you noticed! I hadn't thought of that before...

"Sparkle" isn't like a last name, as some people proposed in Twilight's case, because her brother is named :"Shining Armor", and Armor ≠ Sparkle. Then again, no one ever calls her brother "Shining"!

Gah! This makes less sense the more I think of it! Just go with what's canon in merchandise. Apple Bloom.

These all really bug me! Well, relatively... I don't take it too seriously; it is just a TV show!

"Applejack" and "Apple Bloom" are quite clear to me. I could understand why one might type "Applebloom", given that AJ's name is one word. That having been said, the confusion regarding Night Mare Moon's name must be addressed! Lauren Faust and the MLP wiki use "Night Mare Moon"; yet numerous fans render it "Nightmare Moon". (Some official merchandise also use "Nightmare Moon", though merchandise has been woefully inconsistent with naming conventions). I happen to think Night Mare Moon is the proper rendering---it's supposed to be a pun---but it's one of those cases where you'll end up going with your personal preference.

EDIT: I stand corrected: the MLP wiki uses "Nightmare Moon".

Okay, now I know it's Apple Bloom thanks for informing me.

Now I need to know is it Applejack or Apple Jack?

Gah! This is confusing.

Even though this typo isn't too MLP-related, I've seen it many times on DeviantArt on MLP fan art. I cannot stand seeing

babby. For Celestia's sake it's BABY. If the artist doesn't speak English as their first language, that's fine, I understand, but if not, HOW CAN YOU MISSPELL BABY?

I was actually going to bring that name up, but then I remembered seeing official merchandise spelled as "Nightmare Moon", so I'm not really sure anymore.

I've been so confused about all of this. It doesn't seem to make much sense which ones have spaces and aren't. Fluttershy isn't spaced while Rainbow Dash is. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me. The only way i know which way to type it is from seeing others type it. And sometimes they type it wrong and then i have to fix it. Other times I simply forget...

I don't know if I'd be that picky about spaces tho. Maybe on spelling but spaces just seems to small to be nitpicky about.

It's "Applejack". In fact, if you're ever confused about a name, just do a quick web search. You should find the correct name easily (add pony to the search if it's a name like "Bon Bon").

I didn't think people would write "Applebloom" it just doesn't seem logical. Obviously it's 2 words, and should be spelt "Apple Bloom"

Should just be Applejack, and if you wondering about Big McIntosh, it can be 'McIntosh' and 'Macintosh'.

What I want to know is, for those ponies who are only known by one name, what their last name is. Rarity and fluttershy are the only ones we don't know of for the mane 6. I'm just curious and sometimes curiosities can lead to pestering questions that never leave your mind and annoy you until you bring them up. Kinda like this one.

I don't think they have last names at all. If they did, well, Twilight's family makes absolutely no sense! Armor or Sparkle? "The Apple Family"? We have Granny "Smith", Apple "Bloom", Big "Macintosh". Apple is definitely not a last name there! Again, I just don't think the ponies use last names at all.

@@techno915,

And Applejack. She's NOT called "Applejack Apple" or anything of the sort.

Equestrian ponies don't have last names, though. Rarity is NOT Rarity Belle, and while Pinkie may have the fullest name, it doesn't mean everypony has one.

That's what confuses me. They are the Apple Family, but none of them have Apple as the last name. and I always thought sweetie belle was kinda like Mary Anne, where it's a two-word first name. And pinkie does seem to have the most complete name. But it's also kinda long, so it's not as easy to remember.

*shudders*

Bic McIntosh... the horror..

It doesn't really matter but I would have to say Applebloom works best with both words together, like most other names

There's a similar problem in the Highlander, McLeod vs MacLeod. names with multiple proper spellings can cause alot of confusion.

"You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that."
