inb4 super 8 totally wasn't a horror movie

Horror movies.... *shudders*. These things really are the bane of my existence. When I was younger I would be scared sleepless for nights just from hearing stories about them. Scary stuff just generally, scares me to a much greater degree then anyone else I know.

From my personal experience, hearing a story about a horror movie leads to your own imaginings that are far worse than the thing itself. I had that experience with Cloverfield.

Speaking of which, Cloverfield was awesome.

My all time favorite (spoiler alert don't look at my avatar!) is the Ring, which totally traumatized me for weeks after I saw it. I like when the villain is sympathetic and not just RAPIST SERIAL KILLER OOOOOH!!!

The Uninvited is equally awesome and under-appreciated. Watching that movie gave me the best emotional high because it was such an awesome mindscrew.

Least favorites would have to be Blair Witch Project (DO. NOT. WATCH. IT'S. JUST. TEENAGERS. WHINING) and the Exorcist, though I can't say that either of them weren't hugely successful and influential. I just thought they were boring to the point of frustration.

This is my Game. And I only allow two things:

Flawless calculations...

and beauty!

This thread is my new home. I love horror movies so much I can watch the same movie many times in a row without getting bored. And I've seen the most well known horrors out there. If I could, I would have posted a mile-long list of horrors I have watched but since I am on the phone now, Im just gonna say that I love the most Friday the 13th movies exept "Jason takes Manhattan" and "The final chapter" (I hope I remembered the name right there) and I am just in love with the Tales From the Crypt TV series. My favorite type of horror is Slashers but of course I like all types of horror. Yup people, eaven the sick and crazy Vomit-gore genre. (Im thinking about a special triology here starting with "Slaughtered vomit dolls" (sorry if I spelled it wrong) here. The movies are very sick, yes. And they are bad at some point but Lucifer (Directors name) has actually done a good job for those who enjoy it)) Anyways, to enjoy such series of films I think you need to watch a whole bunch of other horrors first. Weekly. I am a member of Horror.com btw, if anypony here is really into horror like me, I think you should check that site out. Well I'll be back with another post with some films I like and stuff but now I must sleep.

Btw, thanks for creating this topic, I was going to some weeks ago but I forgot about it.

Horror films get a bad rap these days. People watch the horrible blockbuster horrors like the Friday the 13th remake or Insidious and think that's all the genre has to offer. The best horror films are the ones that are hidden away from the general pubic. The movies from indie studios or even foreign film makers who are actually innovative in how they scare! I hate watching horror movies and knowing when the scares are coming. (Oh, she checked around for the source of a scary noise and then let her guard down after finding nothing, we all know what's going to happen now.) Hollywood is too formulaic these days.

One of my favourite horror movies is The Descent. All-female cast who actually ends up fighting back. Already we have something breaking typical gender roles in movies, awesome. The cave monsters in this movie aren't scary, but everything else is. One character's psychological breakdown, their circumstances in a cave system that they are lost in with dying flashlights, etc. The ending is brilliant too, a last kick in the stomach for viewers.

I like horror that incorporates sexual violation on some level. This is what gets under my skin the most. A Serbian Film or The Bunny Game comes to mind. I thought The Human Centipede would go there, but it was pretty disappointing. Part 2 is a lot scarier though, it's worth noting.

I was actually a fan of the SAW franchise until the end. Not that I like the new craze of "torture porn" but the twisting and turning story that you're always trying to figure out was a nice addition to horror. I really liked the characters, too. Det. Matthews, Amanda, Hoffman. They are multi-dimensional and well developed. There was more to it than the traps, but SAW haters fail to see that. Of course there's no denying the decline in it's quality with each movie, but I think all SAW installments are better than the average horror movie released today.

Before I keep going *stops*.

tl'dr: Horror is cool I have some faves

At first I thought about posting a list of movies I like but oh well, that feels kinda pointless.

Anyways, I found this article http://welivefilm.co...-from-the-dead/

What do you think about that?

Random movie post: You guys should check out [Rec] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1038988/

It's an awesome film. Watch out for the remake http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1082868/ though.

Seriously? Michael Bay needs to stay away from Horror prodigies. Poor Halloween getting driven into the ground, Rob Zombie just finished setting fire to it. Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't the original Halloween praised for it's masterful build of suspense? Rob Zombie just turned it into a clusterbomb of violence and what I'm expecting from Michael Bay.... lots of chase scenes and a really kick ass heroine. Megan Fox co-starring.

[REC] is creepier/scarier but I actually prefer Quarantine. But don't mind me, I'm just in love with Jennifer Carpenter and her performance..Finally someone has a nervous break down in a horror movie! You'd think being in such circumstances it would happen more often.

Yeap, just watched Human Centipede 2 last night (the uncut version). Re-tasted dinner about 3 times.

I ate white rice for, like, three days strait after seeing that...

I'm not a huge fan of modern horror - apart from a few exceptions like Rob Zombie's body of work. I dislike Paranormal Activity which hasn't got anything on Poltergeist and the wave of exorcism movies that have been surging up which can't compare to The Exorcist. Saw is pretty cool, entertaining and sick, it's at the very least an original concept.

I also tend to lean towards psychological horror more than blood and gore. But I am a sucker for an OLD slasher movie, not the modern ones though, they're not even scary.

My favorite horror movies have to be The Shining, Alien, Psycho, the "Of The Dead" series, Rosemary's Baby and The Devil's Rejects. I also love The Others, although I understand why some people may not consider that to be a horror, more of a thriller.

My two cents. :)

yay.

What are some of the best Horror movies you have seen? Ones that you enjoy, with a great story, classic or new, a Horror movie that actually has smart people and really good effects and stuff. They dont have to be EXTREMELY scary, this isn't a thread about the scariest.

Um, for me I would say

-House of Wax

-Child's Play

-Cujo (Wasn't too scary, but I sure enjoyed it)

-The Shining

-Wrong Turn

-It (VERY CREEPY xC but it is one of them movies that are old, but very well done)

-Saw series

-Michael Myers..er Halloween I(The first movie, the rest just got dumb)

-Women in Black

That is about it for me, I know some of these may be cheesy to you or very bad..but I see them as pretty good ones. Halloween does have them dumb people in it, but I like the story line. But, in my opinion, these are the best. I have enjoyed them very well. I haven't seen too much scary movies, but I vote these the best y'know ^_^

As far as mine(I'm into more supernatural horror and horror comedy):

Tommyknockers

Rose Red

Tremors 1-4

Army of Darkness

I like real ghost stories more, so the list is small.

I'm not a big fan of horror, particularly modern horror. Seems like no one knows how to scare an audience anymore without graphic torture scenes, and even that style is losing its edge. The horror flicks I do like either have a large dose of comedy or are of the "so bad they're almost good" variety. Cases in point...

An outrageously bad movie. Nonsensical plot, stereotypical characters, the worst blood and gore effects in the history of horror cinema, complete with actors who were visibly trying to keep from laughing as they were killing or being killed. In my book, a classic.

Want to get even worse than Zombiez--as in, so bad it's not even fun to watch? Okay! This was an amateur film consisting entirely of a guy running around in a cornfield maze for an hour and a half looking for his annoying daughters. Oh yeah, and there's a murderer in there somewhere. But we only see his feet. I save this for nights when I'm feeling really masochistic.

Okay, I'll post a good one already...

Not only a good horror movie, a Halloween movie, dedicated entirely to my favorite holiday. And Anna Paquin is in it. Yay!

I loved the Scream series. The Saw series was great, but I felt like the first one could be a movie all on its own without any sequels. Halloween had a great concept, and imo, the scariest looking villian I've ever seen in a horror movie. My bloody valentine is okay. I watched the remake of it, and it desperately needed a sequel.

I'm a big fan of the Saw franchise, although, i wouldn't fully qualify it as horror. Also enjoyed...I don't know, the horror genre is pretty dull, but i enjoy just about all the movies to some extend, except paranormal activity, i hate that franchise with a passion.

The Evil Dead, specifically the first film in the series. On a second note, do people actually find Paranormal Activity to be a horror movie? I watched it and well, it's one of the most boring movies I've seen in a while.

It's an old one so I'm not sure if anyponie's seen it, but "The Gate" was one I watched with a friend of mine. It's about kids who accidentally open a "Gate" to hell in their backyard. Later, his mom asked my mom what he watched at our house. Because he was unable to sleep for weeks...

There were these little creatures in it at I kept saying I thought I saw them in my house that night. I didn't think anything of it since he was laughing it off. I felt bad after I heard that though.

The Woman In Black, The Decent, Dead Birds. Those three movies were TERRIFYING. Dead Birds had really freaky looking monsters.

The Decent made me jump ALLOT. and the Women In Black is the definition of scary.

(Ok Yea I am milking it a bit but still, Those movies are creepy.)

I'm not a big fan of horror movies owo they don't scare me...playing horror themed video games scare me since they get me tense x3 although...if I have to pick its the Nightmare on Elm Street series

reason why is for its creativity with slasher horror. Why just have a killer when you can have him kill people in their dreams? Doing lots of creative kills is what makes the movies for me

I agree. the woman in black was one of the first good horror movies in a while.

The Grudge- "Damn japanese ghost girl thingy you scary!!!"

The strangers- "HES BEHIND YOU!!!!!! TURN AROUND!!!!!!!!!"

Night of the Demons is a classic, always great to watch around Halloween!

Black Christmas (1975 version), the original slasher flick and one of my favorites!

Silent Night, Deadly Night, another awesome Christmas slasher!

Witchfinder General, not so much a horror, but a true classic!

Eh? Nandatte?

I like that one, it is really good! Random note; Did you know that one of the actresses in that movie is currently voicing Princess Cadence? :3

Wow, you're right! I looked it up and it's Britt McKillip, who played the devious and cruel teenager Macy. Never would have imagined it.

I forgot one...Santa's Slay, a hilarious slasher where former wrestler Goldberg plays a homicidal Santa Claus. Awesome.
