What if: Humans Discover Equestria

Immediately after you read this sentence, an anomaly appears just outside Manhattan. Measuring at two kilometers across and one kilometer high, the anomaly has the appearance of a huge window. When a science team is sent to investigate, they discover the (even more) impossible: ponies.

 

It's a portal to Equestria.

 

The initial portal connects Manhattan with Manehattan, but within days, more portals appear around the world. Those from both worlds can freely leave and enter the portals. Two scenarios arise:

 

1) Humans remain human when they cross; ponies remain ponies when they cross.

2) Humans become ponies when they cross; ponies become human when they cross.

 

How does this event affect the two universes? How will the humans react? How will the ponies react? How will you react? What happens (besides the collective brony fangasm) in this what-if situation?

 

Bonus scenario:

 

It quickly becomes clear that, for reasons unknown, those who were bronies before the portal appeared cannot enter. No, they can only watch helplessly as some random guy cuddles with [insert best pony here]. How do you react this time?

As I said before. I'm confident that ponies and humans can co-exist. I highly doubt they will from the get go because we are so culturally different it doesn't matter in either scenario; there WILL be conflicts among ourselves.

The humans would probably be shocked that there are connecting portals around the world that can send them into a fictional land with ponies, griffons, dragons, with other mythical creatures and animals. Both humans and ponies, can co-exist even if some people don't believe that they can work together. The ponies would have the same shocked reaction like us.

I'm probably the minority but I would absolutely hate loosing my human form upon entering Equestria. Hopefully it would just be like in scenario 1 where both species stay the same upon crossing dimensions.

Worst case scenario is humans, corrupt as most of us are, will treat ponies the same way they did in the movie District 9. Humans will unfairly treat many ponies as foreigners and make it seem like THEY are the ones in THEIR territory. And knowing how corrupt the government could possibly be, they may even kidnap ponies and study them. A dark outcome... yes. Knowing the ponies, they would only wish to befriend us. Only few humans will be able to accept and cherish that friendship.

 

OR...

 

We successfully make amends with the lovely ponies and co-exist. Sure, a few kinks needs to be worked out because ponies can sometimes be dangerously powerful compared to humans. A new set of laws would be needed to keep balance between humans and ponies. It will be very tough establishing and keeping that balance, but it'll be worth it. A better human world could come of this. Hopefully...

 

Oh, and the way I would like to see things play out is that we co-exist like in the world of pokemon! It's a stretch, I know. But think about it! We could have battles and such while living with close bonds to out pokemo-- I mean ponies! Only thing I'd cut out is pokeballs. Or PONYballs in this case.

Chaos. A massive, gigantic Chaos. If it happens like you described, portals appearing suddenly everywhere in Earth, it would be actually horrifying. Manticores hunting children in Tokio, Ursa Major rampaging trough Paris, Timberwolves terrorizing people in Shanghai, Changelings invading Berlin and much more. Sure, we could beat them back but the relationships between our world would be massively loaded. People who lost dear ones in those accidents would cry for revenge.

 

For the equestrian-side, the effects would be equally horrifying. Animals from earth could pass the portal and we know what kind of environmental damage different beings could cause.

 

The entire scenario is too chaotic. For a good dimplomatic relatonship we need control. Who could pass the portal and such.

 

 

 

History can repeat itself. Human behavior is unpredictable especially if encountering extra terrestrials that are more or less intelligent than we are ourselves..

 

 

I'm sure due to a difference in beliefs among all of the countries some might see the ponies hostile. Not only that but you also have to worry about Terrorists who will without a doubt attack the ponies and it could lead to a lot of distrust within both races.

I'm aware that there are countries who would be hostile to the ponies but do you honestly think the other nations would let them to the ponies? Or that the ponies would even seek contact with them? Surely not.

Terrorists is probably something that could/will happen but i doubt that we would let everyone simply enter equestria without a background check. And who knows, maybe there will be even anti-human terrorists amongst the ponies themselves.

You see, conflict and mistrust is something that will happen but it does not mean we can't overcome it. Resolving probelms together will strengthen our bond and the rest is just only a question of time.

We aren't complete monster, you know.

In this regard, i agree. I would never enter equetria if it means i would lose my human form.

Lol That's not co-existing. That's really slavery if you take that into account by Pokemon rules. Unless of course the ponies would go willingly.

 

Interesting enough more than likely both sides would use the "Trust, but verify" method and basically trust each other until something happens which Terrorist will ruin.

In my fan-fiction I go through a portal like this. But i turn into a wolf not a pony. My take on it is that the population of Equestria is mostly equine while other planets would have different animals as the main population. So I would think that if a human passed into the "animal dimension" he or she would be turned into an animal that might represent them. If that meant being a pony or a lion, oh well.

The ponies would get sent to be tested in labs and stuff, a good bit, the portal would be immediately put under government security the moment the government find its, and the ponies would be shocked as the humans to find them.

 

Its possible after this shocked state and analysis period ends that the ponies can live alongside humans, but idk before then i have a feeling the humans will want to study them or something, or some won't trust them or something like that.

 

Its possible after some time of warming up to them we can coincide though. That would be awesome.

This can only end terribly.

 

First thing our side would want to do is scour Equestria for any fossil fuels and other resources. If a lot of petroleum is indeed found, the USA would very likely want to strike a deal with princess Celestia to trade their oil for dollars to keep the petrodollar scheme going on for a bit more (see petrodollar). Since Equestria doesn't appear to be poor, there would be no need for the establishment to offer them crazy loans for industrial development. Should they refuse this however, we're going to suddenly see this campaign of bringing freedom and democracy to Equestria if not just brand the Equestrians as monsters or some other kind of whimsical threat.

 

Despite this hope for the two civilizations to opt for friendly relations, do not forget the type of socio-economic environment we're living in; one that rewards acquisition and ruthless exploitation. See, the more you understand the system, the more these "evil and corrupt people" at the helm appear more like cellular automata than as a bunch of trolls.

The world would be shocked, but life would go on, and possibly peace would exist between the two races, although I think both sides would be reluctant to explore the others world en mass. But a real problem may lie with humans realizing that they are no longer the only intelligent or even dominant life forms on this planet. Some will see ponies as abominations. Some terror groups will rise up to cleanse the pony menace form our universe. Some nations will inevitably invade Equestria, sparking a new wave of colonization, first country to take Equestria gets all it's resources. No doubt a world war or two will brake out over who gets dibbs on the pony infested planet. Some countries will try to eradicate all life on Equestria out right, so as to deny anyone else from enjoying the spoils of war. Ponies would not be a significant threat to us. Sure, Celestia and Luna control the sun and moon, but that power might not extend to our realm, and even if it did, we still have the power to cover Equestria in balefire. Basically, Equestria lacks WMDs and a technologically sufficient military. I'm sure centuries down the line, the humans of earth will look back on the atrocities, pondering "what were they thinking?" and feel sorrow over what happened and what could've been. Like the civilizations of Native America and the peoples of Africa, we look back at all the potential ruined and all the lives lost because of our own greed and our own egotistical sense of self importance in the cosmos. Ponykind might continue on, perhaps returning to its old pride or even surpassing it, but they will never forget the travesties that took place. Perhaps one day, peace and coexistence will occur, and our flawed ways will be left out of the relationship.

 Us humans are a violent race of monsters! I would give it a a year until we decided to wage war on Equestria in order to steal their magical medicines, oil, and potions etc...While the humans were attacking Equestria Celestia would probably gather the Elements of harmony and zap us with those thus purifying our race and bringing global peace throughout both worlds!

We actually learn the way of harmony from the equines, we go over to their world and discover how peaceful it is, despite a monarchy and we actually start to model our society like there's.

I mean think about it, when humans are scared of something we tend to do stupid and irrational things!

The media lies and tells us that the ponies are being abused by the evil reins (pun intended) of Celestia and Luna, so we send out a sniper and both Cele and Luna get sniped. Which actually causes a MASSIVE war of the worlds if you will. And on top of that the Elements of harmony somehow fail, and both worlds fall into shambles.

 

And that's all I feel like coming up with for now.

I think humanity would do something stupid, or aggressive and end up hurting the pony world in someway shape or form. We may attack them and brand them as "terrorists", and nuke them out of fear. I don't know. People are stupid. I wish we could co exist but I Think all of the violence humans create would horrify Celestia, which could lead to her trying to close the portal.

Some of you guys give us less credit than we're worth. We wouldn't immediately attack and destroy everything about all of pony-kind and monsters from Equestria would not be coming through the portal as common as you guys depict, if monsters were that common and violent in Equestria they would have it worse than us seeing as they do not have good and/or obvious defense mechanisms. 

 

Onto the scenarios 

 

Scenario 1: I see this one ending up with the most negative outcome out of all of them but would be the outcome I prefer, it'd be nice to remain our own species. 

 

Now some of us might see Ponies as abominations, I don't think Ponies would initially see us as abominations because that's not necessarily in there nature. It'd all start with us humans entering there world and them entering our world at random intervals, we might end up capturing and detaining them for the sake of them for a short period of time. Of-course we'd have some bad things happening like somepony ends up getting killed from a trigger happy guy, but nothing that terrible.

 

Once things get all sorted out and such, then Celestia and our officials could get everything sorted out. Now seeing as this is all from a cartoon and such, and we have knowledge of there world. I doubt we'd try an invasion, mounting aggression against changelings or some other major force in Equestria would end bad for us. All of our leaders getting swapped out for Changelings would literally screw us over.  So our first major move wouldn't be aggressive, we'd first try to find out why this happened and get some agreement organized with Celestia to stay our of each-others business for now.

 

That is the only logical solution, we'd stay separate for the first few years with the exception of a few select groups sent over. Now if humans get caught in Equestria I'm not sure what'd happen to them. Ponies being caught here might end up bad for them they might end up "Disappearing" but as-long as no major ponies go through the portal and end up getting captured/killed by us we'd be fine.

 

And maybe after several years we'd start to melt together, Celestia of-course would be one step ahead of us at all times because she mostly has everything planned out. I guarantee she'd have a fail-safe just in case any-side of the situation gets out of hand, a time spell or something could solve the problem. Also if she wanted to kill everyone on Earth she could in about 3 seconds, after-all she does control astral bodies such as stars. 

 

If I was presented scenario 1 as I told it out, I'd probably pack up a back-pack full of supplies and go through the portal. I'd then run away to somewhere in Equestria where not much news reaches, like the distant Zebra lands. It's Equestria, even if it meant risking my life it'd awesome to run away there and keep my human body.

 

It'd also be pretty awesome if I could join Trixie in some way. 

 

Scenario 2 - This would lead a very different style of encounter. There'd be no for-sure way to determine who is who and what is what. I see this ending up like some-sort of hippie movement on the human side of things. Running away to become our true form which are ponies.

 

On the pony side of things, the idea might get around that on Earth you can break society a lot more often in much different ways. This might serve as some escape for Ponies too, so in both ways we'd find some reason to blend into each-others society.

 

As for the Bonus Scenario - My only reaction would be... "fags." No just kidding about that, I'd probably be disappointed but life would go on.
