ImperialFoxes 17 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 Sup guys. I remember I use to be in the festive mood. Always wanting it to be a holiday. Christmas has yet to come, but I feel no excitement about it. I no longer...feel "happy". Hmm...Why are even setting up so early? Oh well. Maybe when it does hit Christmas that will change. PS: I have no talent in decor. Do you have any decor problems? Share Stories please.
Party Cannon 876 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 I blame Christmas overkill. I remember Christmas anything did not happen until you saw Santa Clause at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Funny Christmas decor story for you: A few years back, my older sister was wrapping garland around the railing that partially surrounds the living room. Right near the end of her work, she asked me to finish the task. Precisely when I finished it, my Mom walks through the front door and lauds over what I great job I did. I liked the (misdirected) praise so I rolled with it. My older sister, hearing the fuss, was like "Hey I did it!" and was (playfully) irritated for hours. So for now on, whenever someone takes credit for another person's work, we say "Nice job you did there on the garland."
Sks_Burns 730 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 i feel your pain. i used to love christmas as well, now i wish it was over sooner. i dont like how commercial its become, nor do i like the 2 months build up that is over and gone on the 26th. having to listen to xmas songs are work makes me sick to my stomach too. no one makes anything new, its just the same tired songs that our parents listened to at our ages "If all I care about in life is the imprints I make in this world, then the most I'll ever leave is a grave." leogal 74 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 ...I felt the same when I was a teenager...It lost it's spark and just wasn't as exciting any more. Now that I'm a mom how ever, the spark is back and I love watching my 1 year old tear a part wrapping paper and see the joy in his eyes :3 I think it's just a stage everyone goes through at different stages in their life :3
Discovery Dream 592 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 While I personally think that Christmas is starting too early (Christmas songs are already on the radio; let me gain back a bajillion pounds on Thanksgiving first, people!), I'm one of those festive people. I love the holidays because I get to travel and see my family :3 No decor stories, really. I have two ornaments featuring me: one says "Baby's First Christmas" because I was supposed to be born on the 25th, but for some reason I was bumped to the 27th. I guess Jesus didn't want me sharing his birthday. The other is a silver angel with my name on it, which matches my mom's. 1 no rest for the wizardly. Ferret Girl 2,642 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 I just completely ignore the media when it comes to this time of year. I love christams and the entire christmas season.... but for me, it doesnt become christmas season until the first of december. True, Christmas has merely become a comercial part of modern society, but there are many who still hold true to its original traditions and meanings. Being that I am a christian, that means Christmas is spiritual holiday above all else. I don't see how anyone could hate this season.. when the snow falls it just feels so magical. I guess though, one thing I do not like is all the decorating...

I don't mind getting in the Christmas mood before American Thanksgiving, because Canadian Thanksgiving is in October. The one thing I don't like is what you said, how commercial it has become. What I really look forward to every year with Christmas is being able to go back to Canada and be with my family. Getting a little bit (A LOT!!) of snow wouldn't hurt either. Squid 100 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 Christmas is my favorite day of the year. I always do my best to make sure that everything is perfect. I love the decor, I love the songs, et cetera. But it really shouldn't last that long. No Christmas stuff until after Thanksgiving I say. But the thing that really, really, really annoys me is how everyone stops immediately after Christmas Day. Christmas is supposed to be twelve days. it's such an awesome holiday that one can't contain it in merely a single day! Christmas in October is the worst. That's Halloween's time to shine. Twilight Circuits 603 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 I agree with a lot of people here on the Christmas has become commercialised. Almost to the point where it's a nuicence. Although it doesn't bother me emotionally, what i mean is, I simply ask more questions about it. Simply put, I don't need one single day out of a whole year to dictate what i can do for friends and family. I can give them whatever i want and time or day of the year of my choosing. Which is even easier and more meaningful then one day or two. Yeah, i believe spending time with family is important as you should always spend time with the people you love. And you don't need holidays or money to do that. Why should a holiday dictate whom I love and spend money on regardless of anything else i might believe. I true gift of love is giving it at the right time that makes it more special to those involved. Don't need a name on any date to understand that. 1 For I have saved your soul in the heavens, and now save it on the ground. - TwilighCelunaCircuits
Shanks 10,816 November 18, 2012 Share November 18, 2012 having to listen to xmas songs are work makes me sick to my stomach too. no one makes anything new, its just the same tired songs that our parents listened to at our ages I work at a grocery store so I have to listen to it too, there are a couple of good Christmas songs but for the most part its the okay to mediocre ones like Santa Claus is Coming to Town or Frosty the Snowman. Those songs were okay when I was a kid but now I am into the more religious ones like Adeste Fideles (Oh Come All Ye Faithful) What Child is This and Silent Night but they won't play those ones because they are not politically correct which makes no sense to me because the more secular Christmas songs are supposed to technically be about the same holiday. I remember one year when I was working night crew there was this one guy who had his own band and he talked to me about some Christmas song parodies they did like Frosty the Hitman instead of Frosty the Snowman or Womens Underwear instead of Winter Wonderland for example. SrFrog 927 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 Christmas,christmas,christmas... C'mon, much like Halloween it's just one of those festivities you're meant to grow out of. I know the purpose is there, but we just tend to forget it with all of the commotion that comes with it. "Never give no manipulative bitch the benefit of the doubt" - Compa's grandpa... Zygen 6,066 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 To be honest as much as I like Christmas, I think that people start hyping it a bit early as songs go on the radio and decoration's go on sale before even thanksgivings over. I'll admit my hype has died down since I was young, but I still like Christmas. And I'm sure maybe when I have kids maybe the hype will go back up . Might be getting ahead of myself though haha. I'm 23 and I've gone trick-or-treating since I was 12!!! This is the first year I've had to skip because I was so close to labour!!! Also, I don't mind the Christmas stuff going up this early (mostly because I'm Canadian and have Thanksgiving in October lol) I can't get enough of the Christmas songs, baking and merry making!! Not to mention I'm in the advertising game lol Edited November 19, 2012 by leogal
Creamy Arty 6,252 November 19, 2012 Share November 19, 2012 Wow. My feelings on Christmas seem to have developed contrary to most others around my age. As a kid I didn't care much for Christmas. As a teenager and for several years into adulthood I hated it passionately. Last year it came and went faster than I could keep up with. This is the first year that I can honestly remember looking forward to Christmas gladly. Decor problems? Not many. I have a bit of an eye for interior design. A great uncle of mine used to have one of the earliest models of silver, artificial trees that were made out of aluminum. He would ground the light strings on the base of the tree so when other people tried to hang ornaments on it they would get a jolt. Kyoshi made this ^^ Come join us on Equestria.tv on Fridays at 6 PM Eastern for our weekly movie nights!

Seeing as my wife is a baptised publisher with JW and I'm a student JW and we both don't believe that neither Christmas nor Easter has anything to do Jesus or God ( infancy both originate from Pagan holidays) we don't celebrate either. Shadow Chaser 633 November 20, 2012 Share November 20, 2012 I grew out and back into Christmas from different circumstances. I think it all depends on who you're with. I'm a big advocate of waiting until Thanksgiving is over but two years ago I was with a friend, a little before Thanksgiving, and, because of family stuff, she isn't super fond of Thanksgiving but loves Christmas. So we were sitting in her house and she was being sad and when I asked her about it she said she just wanted Christmas to be here and for Thanksgiving to be over. So I made her get up and find her Christmas tree and all the lights and decorations she wanted to hang up and I downloaded a Frank Sinatra Christmas album, and we put up all her decorations and had a great time with it, just so she could feel better about Christmas being closer. And I made fun of her relentlessly for decorating that early, even though it was my idea. Haha. It's always going to vary but Christmas and Thanksgiving are what you make of them. I agree they've gotten commercialized to death but if you don't focus on that part of it, then it won't seem like such an issue. Focus on your friends and family. People you want to be with. They're what makes the holidays important. Not the stuff. Find some music you like, gather some friends, order (or make your own) pizza, and tell stupid stories from your past. That's what I do. The holidays, and life in general, is what you make of it. So make it fun. "The dead don't talk. I don't know why." - Odd Thomas "You want to take the easy way out because if you try and fail there's only you to blame. But you know what? Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. It's all up to you. So get up, get out there, and go start doing the work.""Nothing worth having in this life comes easy." - Shadow ChaserNight Apples - A Luna x Mac romance fic. It's cute.
