A brony without ponies...

If you want to get into collecting merchandise, blind bags are a good starting point. They're cheap, nice looking for the price (they actually have simi-show accurate solid hair), and they come with a card. You can collect them one at a time or you can buy them in various sets. I actually started my collection with a Rarity blind bag. I keep it separate from the others as a sort of memento.

 

The trading cards are also a good start to a collection. Not sure about availability over there, but you can buy them for about two dollars a pack here, or just with the blind bags, you can buy them in boxes. Trading cards are great because if you ever go to a meetup or make friends with a fellow brony, you can trade them.

 

If you're open about your love for the show and have a little more money to spend, you might consider a t-shirt. Nothing shows off your love for something more than a t-shirt. There are various places you can buy MLP clothing. If you can shop online, I would recommend WeLoveFine. They probably have the largest variety of any store selling officially licensed clothing and, depending on what/how much you get, you can get free stuff such as posters, key chains, fake mustaches, stickers, buttons, etc.

 

Now to your other concern. If you want to contribute to the fandom, one way to do it is to find something you're good at and sharing your talent. If you're good at writing, try writing a fanfic. If you're good at editing, make a PMV. Good at playing an instrument, make a song. You don't have to be good at anything to contribute though. Simply donating a little money, even a dollar (or pound) to one of the many brony fundraisers, or even this site is a good way to contribute. You don't even have to have money though. You can contribute simply by sharing ideas. In fact, by posting on this forum, you're already contributing in a way.

 

Whatever you do, don't force it. Being a brony is about enjoying yourself. Do whatever makes you happy.

I'm a big fan of a lot of stuff, but I have nothing to show for anything at all... Ever.

 

 

My point: You don't need to show for what you love, just state that you do and that should be quite enough, like, you being on this forums, for example.

 

Don't worry, you don't need them purdy pony toys or shirts or whatever, just you know yourself that you love MLP, and that should be satisfying enough.

I think that WeLoveFine actually has more men's shirts than women's shirts. Not by a huge margin, but still.

 

My very favorite men's T-shirt, I think, is the red one with Applejack that says, "Drink Cider, Learn Nothing." I got it for my boyfriend around Easter last year.

Oh sweetie, don't worry yourself. <3 Being a fan is about loving mlp, and at least on this site we all know we have something wonderful in common <3 I only have 2 pony merchendise items; a little brushable Fluttershy and a Rarity compact mirror from a blind bag. Just get things if you want them, buy the things that fill you with the most excitement at the thought of getting it home, or recieving it in the post. I'm from the UK too and it's lovely to know there are other fans of the show around here.

This is probably true...I do overthink things quite a bit, apparently. I like everything to be perfect in my eyes, and this is just one of those really annoying things that I just cant seem to get right. I've been a brony for a while now, in the way of loving ponies, but that was it. It's only recently i've started going into the fanfics and merchandise of the series. It just feels, at least to me, that because it's there I need to do SOMETHING with it.

I can understand how you feel about the second half of your post. Because you really like something, you want there to be physical proof of your devotion.

 

My advice is to get something that you would normally buy in regards to merchandise anyways. If you like toys, get the blind bags or brushable. If you like trading cards, get those. And so forth. You don't need to worry about getting the perfect thing because most pony toys are inexpensive. Start small, and that will help you get an idea for what you want out of your collection.

You haven't let anyone down, being a brony means you love and watch the show! it doesn't mean you have to have merchandise. not having any doesn't make you any less of a brony then one who has a ton of merchandise. buy what appeals to you. Merchandise is all about buying what appeals to you. you've already shown that you love and support the show!

This, I don't think its a requirement to be a brony, anyone can be one! I'm a brony to, but a closet brony so Obviously I don't have any merchandise! Does that make me any less of a brony or something? Well i'd like to think not.

 

If you want some pony merchandise get it, but don't get it because you feel obligated to it. The bronies will still include everyone equally even if you don't have a massive collection of pony figurine's and stuff.

So basically here's the thing, i'm 17 years old as of this post, will be 18 in around a month.

It's recently come to my attention, that despite the fact i'm obviously a brony (would I be here otherwise?) I actually have nothing to show for it, and im not even sure what I should have.

 

My mother came home the other day and brought my little sister one of the blind bag ponies that you can get, (I believe it was Golden Harvest?) i've also seen several YouTube videos of bronies showing their collections, posters, Lyra plushies etc. and this got me thinking...why dont I have ANYTHING pony?

I'm a HUGE fan of the Halo series, and I have Halo posters all over my room. I have collectors edition games, keyrings etc, and im just as big a fan (if not bigger *gulp*) of MLP:FIM. So why do I have nothing to show for it?

 

The reason i've made this post is because I feel like i've let the bronies down, and myself in some way, just because i've not actually got anything. I mean I dont even know where to start when it comes to collecting things, or making things, or contributing to the fandom or anything even pony related, I enjoy drawing, and I have a few pony doodles around my books and such, but looking at memes and drawings online of MLP characters just deflates me when I look at mine. (It's just me, i'm strange OK? I love Halo and i've learned just about everything about everything there is to know about it.) So what should I do to sort this out? Where should I start on collecting things? What should I buy first? What should I not buy? Where the heck do I buy these (i'm from the UK, keep in mind).

 

TL;DR - What pony merchandise should I buy? Where from? And what should I avoid?

SO... I've decided. I'm making something for you. Deal with it! I am happy to meet another Halo fan and brony, and I wanna try out this new method of digital painting I've been trying out. Hopefully you'll like it and it'll be good enough to put up in your room. Hint, it won't clash with your Halo motif!

Meh, I have TONS of non-brony friends (Including my roommate) who come over and TRY to get my goat about it. I usually just say "Hey, it's what makes me happy." and then ignore them. Only time I ever stand up is when they accuse me of being a clopper and what not, to which I reply "So because I like something means I'm sexually attracted to it? I guess you spend your Sundays beating it to sweaty men playing grab-ass for a misshapen ball. Yeah, I'm the 'gay' one."

You should buy something because you want it not because you think you should have it or that it would somehow make you less of a fan for not having it. I am not really too much into the merch myself though I have been eyeballing this Discord shirt and I might get the DVDs and have definite plans to get the comics but I watch the show, have read fanfics and am currently writing a few myself have seen some great fanart and have listened to some great fan music. Every fan enjoys it in their own way so don't feel too bad.
