Am I the only one who thinks of people referring to themselves as pirates when they use the word "swag"? It makes them look ridiculous... at least, the image it conjures up in my mind is pretty hilarious.

That would be booty, surely? Swag makes me think of burglars.

Honestly, I've never heard anyone say "YOLO" seriously. I only ever hear it from people who are joking, so I wouldn't say that it is really overused. Swag, however is pretty stupid and very overused.

It's not really that I dislike each of those words, I really just have more of a problem with the groups/people that use the word and the reason they use it. To be honest I think swagger (swag as they call it these days) is actually not a half bad word, I think it offers a fairly good description as to someone who has great confidence. Now the problem that I have with swag is the over use of it and how it is used in a way to say that someone is cooler/better than any other person.

Now YOLO isn't really half bad either. I think it offers a pretty good life lesson, which is to live your life to the fullest. But unfortunately I have found that people just use the word as an excuse to throw parties (I'm glad pinkie doesn't say YOLO in that case) and have an excuse to do what ever they want.

To be honest, if people didn't use those words the way they do today, I wouldn't have such a problem with them.

I despise yolo and swag with a passion  I hate people that say things like "who needs good grades when you have swag" that is a load of shit its only true if you wish to spend the rest of your life working in a fast food restaurant and yolo is just as bad as swag since stupid ,moronic 12 year old girls use it as an excuse to post pictures of them selfs half naked on the internet yolo needs to cock off and take swag with it. :)

I didn't know Octavia was so popular I mean she is like, one of the best background ponies but I thought Derpy was the most popular. Also whats all this about TM87? I didn't know Swagger was such a useful move. Eh maybe it's good in competitive battling.

This is sad:

My first thought when I saw SWAG:

"Study of Women and Gender" (It's what the department is called at my college.)

My first thought when I saw YOLO:

So uh...to answer your question: I rarely hear those words used like that...but maybe I don't hang out at the same parts of the internet everyone else does.

I don't mind swag really, nor do I think it's overused at all (although it might be starting to approach those levels of being overused), but I cannot stand YOLO!!!  I've never liked that phrase, and it most certainly is being overused at this point.

The only time 'YOLO' is to be used is when it stands for 'You Obviously Love Offspring" because The Offspring are the greatest band alive.

I don't dislike either one of them in the slightest, but they're used too much for their own good. It wouldn't be that much of a problem with a lot of people if it weren't for the fact that many young, immature preteens use it excessively :P.

I personally have nothing against any of the words. Even before their incorporations, the idea of it all still held pretty strong among youth with penchants for 1990s Los Angeles street gang sub culture.

It kinda of does bring shame to something that could actually be considered fearsome back in the day, however. The myriad of snapbacks that go around youths who are most likely fakers at best. When you wear an LA Lakers snapback (known as "fitteds"), it's supposed to mean that you're from Los Angeles and you, uh... represent that city to the fullest, much like a gang member. Nowadays it's mostly centred around who looks the coolest, which is shameful in comparison to how it was back then, which was much more violent.

I didn't start liking swag until only a little while ago. I think its allright as long as you don't use it in every sentence. I Just use it every once and a while. I use to hate Yolo, but like swag I started using it every now and then, but way less than swag.

Bottom line, I think they are allright every now and then.

Carpe diem > YOLO

Class > swag

Saying "YOLO" is dumb when you use the term to justify doing something stupid.

However, if you were to use "YOLO" in a method similar to the way you'd use "Carpe Diem," I'd say you're okay. Because, when you look at it, "YOLO" is essentially a bastardized version of that phrase.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow." We can all agree that Mahatma Ghandi had some merit in his sayings, yes? So did Mother Theresa, I would assume: “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”

Of course, "YOLO" has been completely run into the ground because of the stupid people that tend to use it. It's always going to be associated with them, and not with the likes of the other great sayings/quotes that I mentioned above. YOLO by itself isn't totally inane/unintelligent in my opinion (I mean, what it says IS true after all), but the ways in which it is used 90% of the time have corrupted it's meaning.

Swag is annoying as fuck though, I will admit.

Both completely overused wannabe memes used by people of the ages 12-18 thinking their cool.

So yes, i 100% disagree with these phrases.

  • 2 months later...

... is not an excuse to act like an idiot. While when the acronym when broken down might be inspirational, many people have taken the meaning behind it and made it an excuse to be stupid. What are your guys's thoughts on this?

Ok, we all know this YOLO thing has gotten old.

Its only because, they are stupid. We all know we only live one life, because we were put on this life with only 1 life pretty much this has blown its way all out of proportions with our society. But we bronies, keep it alive.

I hate this term so much.

It's pretty much a bastardization of the age-old phrase "Carpe Diem" (Sieze the Day). Trying to make the most out of every day we have on this Earth is a healthy mindset, in my opinion, because it drives humans to do great things. Do you think some of humanity's foremost trailblazers would have done half the things they've done if they thought they had all the time in the universe? I doubt it.

It's a shame that things like "YOLO" seem to advance the idea that seizing the day consists of drinking, drug use, promiscuity, and generally acting like an ass.

In my world, this is what YOLO should mean:
