Who is Scootaloo related to? I know it's not Rainbow Dash (Lauren already said it) and I really want to see an episode about this.

I know that this is a frequently asked question in the fandom, but I'll ask anyway.

Who is Scootaloo related to? I know it's not Rainbow Dash (Lauren already said) and I really want to see an episode about this. Does anypony else agree? I need answers!

Scootaloo has absolutely no family that is shown, mentioned or hinted to in the show as of yet. As of this episode, Sleepless in Ponyville, Dash has become Scootaloo's surrogate big sister, so, effectively she can now be considered family. As for parents or legit relatives, we have yet to see or hear anything about them.

No, you're not the only one who wants to know about Scoots' family, obviously, tons of people do. I for one don't, I think Dash being Scootaloo's mentor and sister is a great gain for Scootaloo's character, and that she doesn't need some random parental characters and such thrown in now that that's happened.

The need for answers is indeed pretty high!

The lack of known relatives is also the reason, why Scootaloo is portraid as an orphan so often in pictures, fanfiction etc...

I agree. It makes her character more interesting.

Just wanted to give a link to this particular episode review, because the person reviewing it had a rather big impact on this episode's fanon idea, and how it's been around for a while. This guy, bronycurious, is the creator of the famous fan-made comic, 'Sisterhooves Slighted', in where Scootaloo is left alone during the day because Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle go with their sisters to the Sisterhooves Social. Scootaloo wanders around and eventually finds Dash lounging in a cloud. When Dash asks what's wrong, Scootaloo eventually breaks down in sobs and asks why she can't have Dash as her big sister, like how Apple Bloom has Applejack, and Sweetie Belle has Rarity.

The picture-book was made back in April of this year, and even has a cute lesson to Celestia at the end of it. There are a few similarities between the episode and the picture book, which is to be expected seeing as they took the same route. Yet again, the fanbase shows that it's intelligent, and a lot of their 'fanon' is so show accurate and based on 'it could happen' logic, that episodes with very similar themes happen frequently.

I enjoyed this episode. I'm a fan of scary stories so it was fun to hear some pony versions.

Obviously the ending was wonderful; the look on Scoot's face when she was finally flying for the first time at the end made my eyes well up.

However, there were a few parts that I found overly "cartoonish." The sound effects used at 3:49 sounded a bit... well, crap, and whenever they were used again throughout the episode I got a bit of secondhand embarassment.

This episode has Luna at her creepiest, what with her being in your dreams and whatnot.

Here's my question, Should I be scared of, disregard, or hope that equestria exists if I see Luna in my dreams?

YES YES finally we have an episode centred around scootaloo possibly making her dream come true of having rainbow dash as a sort of sister, this is what we've been waiting for people.

She probably notices distress and fear and the like with their dreams, and she makes it a point to help those who are having such problems.

I love this episode so much. I've probably re-watched it more than any other season 3 episode so far. It was a very inspirational and heartwarming episode. I can relate to it in the sense that one of the biggest obstacles in my life right now is fear: fear that I won't do well in school, fear that something bad will happen to me, etc. I often avoid fear, or problems in general. This episode reminded me that I can't do that. Until I face my fears, they won't go away.

It also brings me back to the days of when I was a young child, and when I would have nightmares. I've felt how Scootaloo did in the "here branches branches" scene so many times.

Overall, this was a wonderful episode. They all are.

Luna might be scary when she is in your dreams. But this episode is the clear example that will develop to show RD's sister side.

I honestly didn't find Luna scary at all.  In fact, I thought to myself that, had that been my nightmare, having Luna show up and start talking to me would have been really comforting.  Also, it's the most unique form of magic we've seen so far.

Honestly, I thought Luna and Rainbow Dash both really grew in this episode.  Luna because we finally get to see her really connect with one of her subjects - I came away from this episode respecting her as a wise and benevolent second to Celestia, and not just "that other alicorn who tried to take over the world".  And Dash because she showed her sensitive side and genuine empathy for Scootaloo when she could have just been all macho and tomboyish like she'd been before.  In general, Dash seems to be really maturing this season, and I like her much more than I used to because of that.

I can really relate to Scootaloo in this episode.  I recently went through a period of having panic attacks at night.  I know how it is to be terrified of sunset, to suffer from sleep deprivation, and so on.

I loved this episode, especially Scootaloo! I'm so glad we finally got a Scootaloo episode, though I, and I'm sure others, would love know more background information on her. Some people have speculated that maybe she's homeless or maybe an orphan. Of course these ideas have led to fanfics depicting Rainbow Dash taking care of her and becoming kind of like her big sister. Given the context of this episode, that's pretty much what happened here, and I'm looking forward to seeing more interactions between these two in the future seasons. I'm really hoping there's some episodes dedicated to this pair in season four. :)

I'm seriously jelly of Scootaloo. I wish Luna would haunt my dreams. She's awesome. (I need to do more research on this thing that people call "lucid dreaming", I think).

On another note, it really bugs me the way Rarity was portrayed in this episode, mainly because it seems wrong in light of an earlier episode titled "Sisterhooves". In it, Rarity went against her nature and did something really selfless (sacrificial, even) to grow closer to Sweetie Bell, her younger sister.

Yet, in "Sleepless in Ponyville", it would seem that Rarity took a huge step backwards, character-wise, and did something that could likely cause a rift between the two.

It's like whoever wrote "Sleepless in Ponyville" didn't even see "Sisterhooves", or worse, saw it and said to themselves "ah screw it, who cares about continuity and past character history anyway? Let's make Rarity a jerk for no apparent reason."

But, maybe there is a reason that I'm just too obtuse to have noticed. Is there?

Whether or not you'll accept the idea is up to you, but in the past when this has been pointed out, Rarity fans and, now myself, use the head canon that Rarity made a deal with Sweetie prior to the trip. Since Rarity made it more than obvious she hated camping and nature in general, she told her sister that she was going to make her earn this trip. Ergo, carrying all of Rarity's 'necessities' during the trip for her, in exchange for Rarity agreeing to spend a few days in the woods with her and the other two sister pairs. Since Sweetie wasn't complaining and wasn't at all hinting towards being tired, and kept trucking forwards, this idea seems to be a fairly good assumption.

It doesn't really fix the situation, but it takes away the 'asshole sister using sibling for child labor' point of view, and turns it into an already agreed upon situation.

And besides, it's not the biggest of all secrets that Rarity's and Sweetie Belle's relationship is very pull-and-push. As in... they love each other to death, but, they have had, have, and will have more than enough disagreements that sometimes this can be seen if anyone asks me. So basically, they do love each other, very very much? Yes. Do they have an excellently stable relationship?... Um... not quite...

This being my headcanon, it didn't bother me much, and instead was hilarious in my eyes. And plus, if Sweetie Belle can (almost) extort Rarity into going, why the hell can't she have some sort of payback aside from the deal?happy.png

Personally the whole thing with Rarity and Sweetie was just a source of laughter to me I was most excited about this being a Scootaloo episode and Luna having a major ish role in it.

Here I thought I had this episode totally memorized, but I just noticed one more brilliant detail... Scootaloo snores tongue.png It was an obvious joke when Rainbow made a big deal about snoring and then went and did it, but Scootaloo was never shown sleeping in that scene. It's not until the next night in the cave, when you've forgotten about the joke, that she falls asleep and snores a couple times before switching to the headless horse dream. Just makes me love Scoots and Dash together even more wub.png

I can't wait to see what all adorably adorable sister episodes are in store for us in S4.

Definitely one of my favorite episodes.

I loved the sisterly relationship between Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash I hope to see more of that in season 4 :)

I also loved the part when Luna came into Scootaloo's Dream that music made Luna so enchanting and awesome.

Before I watched the show, I was on the MLP wikia a lot.

The very first episode I read up on and knew EVERYTHING about was this one.

I wanted to see it for so long, I was disappointed when I found out it was all the way in the third season.

But it was totally worth the wait!
