I think at some point Shining Armor and Cadence will have a kid at some point. What would be funny is at the end of the season 4 premiere Cadence goes "Hey everypony guess what? I'm pregnant!" I think there's no excuse to NOT let Cadance get pregnant. I mean they have shown the baby cakes and even then wouldn't kids question where they came from?

 

Besides other shows have done the same exact thing like Rugrats, The Fairly Odd Parents, Adventure Time and even Franklin (a young kids skow). Honestly if parents do get butt hurt if MLP decided to dwell into the world of pregnancy then they truly are idiots.

Oh hell yeah, I can see Chrysalis staging a kidnapping. Problem is, what plans would she have for the foal? Would it be like Tangled where Chrys kidnaps the foal, raises it as her own and slowly but surely takes its power for herself, or would it be like Bioshock Infinite, minus Shining selling the foal (because he'd never do that) where Chrys does the same as above only she keeps it locked away in a tower where unbeknownst to it the power and love she shares with Shining and Cadence is being slowly sucked away by Chrys and her changelings? Its supposed to be like a sort of hive which Chrys and her changelings would be connected to and slowly the entire multitude of parasites suck the power and love out of the foal, whose condition worsens as the days go by.

 

As for the topic, I'd love to see Shining and Cadence have a kid. They're the sort of young couple in love who deserve to have a child and (as mentioned above) it would set the plot perfectly for a surprise ambush by the changelings and the kidnapping of the foal by Chrysalis, posing the first challenge for Twilight and the third for Cadence as the most recently coronated princesses of Equestria. However, little do they know that deep within the province of the changelings lies are greater threat than that of the changeling army. Perhaps the return of King Sombra who instigated the plot to kidnap the foal, or maybe even a changeling king? So many infinite possibilities........

I've envisioned two variants.

 

1. The foal, for whatever reason, is a source of immense power, and Chrysalis kidnaps it to harness its energy. If this is the idea, perhaps several other parties are chasing it down (Sombra wants it to resurrect himself, Trixie and the CMC team up to rescue it to earn glory and cutie marks, etc.).

 

2. Chrysalis just wants revenge. This would provide insight into her psyche and how she sees the world, and perhaps create conflict with her subjects, who don't see the point in wasting time for vengeance.

Pregnancy isn't really that touchy of a subject. Whether they show it or not, I'm definitely excited at the prospect of Cadance and Shiny having a foal. It'll be damn cute and Twilight will probably be so adorkable when she finds out she's an aunt.

 

Normally, I would say it isn't.  When you are dealing with a children's show however, that's when it can become rather problematic.  The most they can get away with is showing a foal in a bundle like they did with pound and pumpkin cake.  They might show a tired Cadence underneath covers as a nurse walks away with Shining Armor by her side as they proudly show off their new daughter. 

 

Still, i'm not hoping for Skyla as it just interjects another alicorn/princess into the mix, and if Princess Skyla is/isn't born an alicorn, it might just create further problems.

It's possible. This princess Skyla could be cadence's and shining's daughter. I think she is due to the pink coat and the cadence like mane.

I think it'd be a good idea to show Cadence being pregnant, seeing as other kids' shows have had pregnant characters. Maybe I'm a little biased because I'm pregnant, but it'd be a cute idea. If the writers were to do that, they could add more character development on Cadence and Shining Armor.

Excuse me? How is showing a stable married woman being pregnant not innocent?

 

As I and others have stated already, a handful of other kids shows have shown pregnancy. It is good for kids to see it, and many kids have seen their own mother pregnant.

 

Pregnancy is a beautiful thing. The day that soccer moms complain about pregnancy in a children's cartoon is a sad day for the whole world.

I don't know how we all decided showing pregnancy was inappropriate for kids. Rugrats, Adventure Time, Fairly Odd Parents, Avatar and Korra, and Franklin the God Danged Turtle have done this already.

 

Is it because of what leads up to that? Because I think older ladies and gents who are actually aware of that side of it are the only ones who would even consider that. Kids could give two craps about all that, all they care about is "OH MAI GAWD, BABIES!!!1!".

... ya know i don't see why people find pregnant characters as offensive or child-unfriendly. i can think of plenty of characters in cartoons that were shown pregnant. and atleast they are married, its not like its going to be some bastard child born of wedlock from a naughty cadence. plus, they are royalty, they gotta have an heir at some point. i think it is perfectly fine as long as they handle it the right way.

I side with the people who are saying that pregnancy by itself probably wouldn't be a deal-breaker for Hasbro. Will they actually do it? I doubt it, but it isn't out of the question. Pregnancy isn't exactly something that kids can't handle. The other kids shows are good examples of this, but the best one might be Up. That's right, the $200 million Pixar movie that showed a character having a miscarriage.

 

Now, I doubt they will show Cadence being pregnant. But if the writers came up with an interesting idea revolving around that concept? I don't think Hasbro would just say "No, you can't do that".

Sadly, I have to be rude here and say that will never, ever, ever, ever, EVER happen.  From what i've seen, and what i'm getting, all alicorns are princesses because alicorns are special, emodying all 3 races into one being, and that gives a subconcious connotation to the original market demographic of the show by saying "all little girls are special and princesses."

 

That's the primary selling point for the princess toys from what i've seen, and Hasbro does it.  Only princess that hasn't been shown as an alicorn is Princess Platinum.  Personally, I have a very, very strange sense that Platinum is Princess Celestia.  She changed her name to better reflect her new status and duty as ruler of Equestria.  The reason this hasn't been divulged is that it was either forgotten, or potentially struck from the history books.   

 

I'm highly doubtful that you will ever see a colt alicorn, and if that does happen it maybe a rare event or something.  That one book in German, or whatever it was, with the new baby pony being born that looks like a colt alicorn has a high probability of being non-canon to the MLPFIM universe.

Ok ok Genepool I get it. No alicorn colts anytime soon. Though it would be cool they mentioned an existence of one in an old pony tale or make a reference to one. Like in a Daring Doo story title like "Daring Doo and the Crown of Prince Alicorn" or something.

Changelings stealing children is a key component of Changeling folklore. On the other hand, most of the reasons that Changelings traditionally steal children (except malice) don't really translate well to Equestria.

 

The most obvious sane reason would be ransom. Chrysalis could make some kind of outrageous demand. Ponies to feed off of, surrender of the Elements or the Crystal Heart, or land. She could well have enemies of her own and want the Ponies to fight them on her behalf.

 

The second sanest reason would be for Chrysalis to raise Skyla as her own daughter to create a powerful ally.

 

I suppose she might kidnap Skyla with the idea of denying Equestria an heir, but killing her would do just as well and Equestria's rulers look set to live on forever anyway.

I know that and you have made a valid point, actually. What I ment was that they should show Cadance having the baby but not into too much detail, with the water breaking, umbilical cord etc. sorry for confusion
