Community Service.

Concord

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

Recently, i received some warning points, seeing them, it made me feel a little bad about myself or what ever i messed up for, so i wondered if there was a faster way to get rid of them, withouth waiting weeks and months...

The awnser sadly was no, but, i had an idea that maybe i could suggest to the forums...

Why not add some community service jobs, or something similar for people who don't want a bad reputation here and want to get rid of those nasty warning points...

I'm not saying that, let's say... you spend 10 minutes on something and all the points are gone...

I'm suggesting something like, for example: you greet a new person to the forums, and you get 1 warning point off...

I'm sure admin or mods could find something else for "Bad ponies :P " to do...

This is only an idea of mine that i thought, Maybe, just Maybe... could work...

Thank you for your time! Have a nice day! :P

...

But seriously--I don't know, a few things I could think of would be a Blog Post stating what you did wrong, what you learned from gaining the warnings, and what your solution would be in the future. And also find ways to help other people out who have gained warnings.

Otherwise, just spend time in the dungeon.

I like the idea, as long as the decaying warning points is still going on. That's always handy.

Blog Post stating what you did wrong, what you learned from gaining the warnings, and what your solution would be in the future.

Oh god no. Public humiliation is the worst.  That won't make me not do the wrong deed as much as hate the forum.

This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?

You know, community service isn't the only way of serving the community (haha), there are endless, if not, a lot of different matters that can be attended and STILL be help out. Don't ask me what, I'm just blurting this out.

And when it comes to feeling bad for yourself and dwelling in regret, everyone goes through this, it's just a matter of what you do about it. Either positive ways or negative is up to the person, but you have to forgive yourself and accept what happened and move on.

(Run on sentences is what I usually end up doing)

And have a nice day as well =D

You wouldn't have to do it--it's only if you want to decrease it faster. And if you posted pornography, flamed someone, insulted someone--et cetera. It's like a "Dear princess celestia, today I broke the rules." But I understand the dilemma

@@#1 Flutterfan,

But let's say that was still an option? I mean, really, how does it help the community? It doesn't hinder it, because you won't fear it (because you don't have to do it). And it doesn't help the community. It's just a way to reduce points.

In that case--shouldn't we have a wall of shame, then? How does greeting people help the community? There are many people who greet because they enjoy it, not out of neccessity. If anything, it's hard to determine how community service helps, but the "Dear princess celestia" is more of a way of expressing you know what you did wrong (or being able to BS your way out of it, I guess). In essence, to work it off it just takes time. If you post [x] and [x] is the worst thing in the world--how would posting in the welcoming forum ensure you learned your lesson?

Helping the community by welcoming people can be done by other people who want to do it--not by people who have something to gain from it. That's my only problem with that one.

I don't really think it'd help, but for the sake of it, it makes the new members feel more welcome. I'm talking about service to the community. Something that helps the staff out so that their work is lessened or makes the site better in general.

Only thing I could suggest is that members who have warnings create banners, songs, or events for the community. IF they want to reduce it quickly. Like, when pony.fm comes out recruit people--or the more people they recruit to the site and when that member reaches Muffin Status or something it reduces it.

*Create banners

*Create Events

*Recruit people to the forum and have them reach Muffin status

[just some ideas]

Greeting new people is something you should honestly be doing just because you're here in the community. If we don't greet new people, they're not as likely to stay, and that's bad for the forum in the long run if we don't obtain new regulars. As for the blog thing, I don't care for that idea either; even as an optional choice, promoting public humiliation by dangling a carrot (decreasing warning points) in someone's face is not the kind of thing the staff should be doing. The warning system is not something to make into a public event like that.

The overall idea is intriguing, but the suggestions for what the possible 'Community Service' could be thus far are not really valid sources or executions.

The "Greeting new people" was just a quick "Maybe type" Thought... I just wondered if there could be any possible way of decreasing your amount of warning points manually...

Which is great. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with the idea itself, at least from what I can see at the moment. All I'm saying is the ideas about what could qualify as community service thus far aren't going to fly, for the reasons I said in my post. We can keep brainstorming though, I'm sure other ideas will pop up.

I think this is a great idea! But i think the problem is, that I don't know what axactly could you use that helps the forum and the community AND can be done as an optional thing.

I thought about people maybe asking for a temporary moderator job until the warning points disappear or the user stopped being one (whichever comes first). But then I thought about it, and I think there are a bit more of cons than pros, plus the fact it might be more counterproductive than productive or helpful (but I'll leave the staff to correct me or agree with me).

The only section that I think counts as "being able to help people out" is either on creative resources, comissions or Life Advice or maybe even wishing someone a happy birthday (taking out critique on fan art and such). But I don't see how could you calculate the warning points taken off or such, plus the fact that the sections would be better if it was by voluntary thought rather than just a way out to get warning points down.

The last thing I thought of was maybe of promoting the forums somehow, but I don't think you can shave off warning points for something you don't know if the person did or not.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
