Do you people watch the older generations? I mostly find them kind of disturbing artwork wise, and the voice acting is also kind of lousy.

The first generation is /okay/ for what it is. I would never watch it like I do Friendship is Magic, but it is good, for being an old sell-out of course.

I watched the original show when I was little. My sister liked My Little Pony so I would come over to the tv and watch some of it. Its been a long time so I can't really remember most of the show but the theme song stayed with me all these years. I was able to recall it 18 years later even without rewatching it.

I never was exposed to the second generation. I saw a few episodes of the third genereation mainly because there wasn't anything else on tv one day so I decided to watch it. I thought it was sorta cute.

I'm ok with the older generation. I definitly prefer the first generation over the third. I don't mind the depiction of the ponies, but I do like the friendship is magic ones better. I do intend on rewatching the original show when I eventually get enough free time.

G1 for what it is is not that bad, I don't like the design of the ponies because they all look the same and it has lot of stereotypical girly scenes and dialogue but the villains are actually really good and surprisingly dark. G2 is meh, I have not seen G3 but if it is really that bad then boy did MLP improve real far real fast.

Fun fact:

There was actually never a TV rendition of anything from G2. Most people think My Little Pony Tales is G2, but it's actually considered part of G1. In fact, G1 had several TV specials, My Little Pony: The Movie, My Little Pony 'n Friends, and My Little Pony Tales. Additionally this generation was the longest, lasting from 1982-1992.

I'm not so keen with the previous generations so much, but the one I have the highest amount of respect for is G1. It did so much right, namely plot-making and treating the audience as if they were all equal. Bonnie Zacherle, the founder of MLP, intended to make the franchise accessible to people regardless of age or gender. G1 did a splendid job in that regard. Lauren Faust herself was a HUGE G1 fan and used that as a major influence for FIM. But if there are a couple of things G1 didn't do well, they were the flat characterization and floaty animation, a common side effect as a result of the budget constraints from that era. In other words, FIM is a more improved version of G1.

G2's toyline is where the franchise changed its audience. Instead of marketing to boys and girls, it targeted girls only. However, with the lack of promotion and profit, it canceled after three years. But G3 and G3.5 did have the promotion, and they're the two that I truly have ZERO respect for, as they were the ones responsible for making My Little Pony the dead mare walking it became, G3.5 especially for its even narrower audience and further disrespect of the franchise's origins.

Generation one 110%. I might have been born into G2-3 ponies, but one will always be the best, I mean really, if we never had that, there would be no poines today <3

Not too mention, it's still bucking awesome to this day, characters, collecting and all.

I haven't seen any of the previous generations since they didn't look particularly worthy of investing a lot of time into. I can't say that they're all terrible though, since I can't judge what I haven't seen. I guess I'll vote for G1 since it gave us Firefly, spiritual mother of the best pony.

I would say G1 because it had a decent storyline and it was a lot darker than I expected it to be. Although only the movies were the good ones, in the TV show the amount of characters was so incredibly high I couldn't even remember any names.

I watched, I think, G1 just to see what it's like and to compare to G4. I was turned off from it very quickly. Even with G4 I was a little meh with it. It's a very cheesy beginning, but I kept watching because it became popular for a reason. Now I'm here.

I honestly don't like any of them, but I checked them and I'd say the first one was ok. Not something I'd watch from start to end, but it was pretty much the same as any cartoon of that era. Party of X fighting against antagonist Y who is evil for the sake of being evil and puts various ingenious obstacles in their way.

But the animation and design of ponies in all the older generations just creeps me out. I can't say why, but I think it's something about the weird mix of human and a horse in their faces.

I'm gonna be different and vote for 3.5. What can I say, it is absolutely hilarious. For all the wrong reasons. I just can't avoid bursting into laughter when I see this:

you need to add another option to the poll "Have not watched any of them" because I cant say if they are awesome or if they suck nor can I declare a favorite since...... well Iv never watched them.

This is a poll for people who HAVE watched them. Go watch them, come back, and THEN vote on which one you liked best, and if you didn't like any of them, vote "None of them, they're terrible."

I guess G1......I guess. I mean it has interesting monster designs, a song that doesn't make me wanna puke every once in a while, and some good voice actors.....but thats about it. All the previous generations lack what this one has in abundance Compelling characters. The animation in the older series is not really anything to write home about either.

G1 mlp tales is actually pretty entertaining IMO XD
