Yellow Diamond 7,579 January 4, 2013 Share January 4, 2013 I'm Catholic.....does that count as a Christian tho? Still same, right? It most certainly does! There are some denominations which view Catholicism with suspicion, but the vast majority of mainline Christian churches accept the Roman Catholic Church as part of the Christian tradition. 2 Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te. SørenWolf 227 January 4, 2013 Share January 4, 2013 Yes I am a Christian, and proud of it. Honestly though i find that sometimes the message of Christianity gets muddled under other things (ie Westboro Baptist Church) And Ponies almost give a better image of how christians should act. I wish Christians would act as Jesus said and forget some of the self made rules that make no sense. 2 Why is it called Common Sense if it is not that common? Zach TheDane 239 January 4, 2013 Author Share January 4, 2013 So, what's the difference between religious and atheistic brony? You know, apart from the eternal fire, brimstone and such. I really have to ask, what do you guys think about your fellow believers condemning MLP as a thing of Satan? ... Also, why is believer written with capital B? Difference? The difference has nothing to do with being a brony, I just wanted to see if there were Bronies on here who happened to be Christians. As for the "thing of Satan", I didn't know people actually thought that. I find it totally ridiculous, personally! Unfortunately, some "Christians" (or at least those who like to call themselves such), don't always take the time to examine things for themselves, instead preferring to listen to other sources rather than the Bible. I honestly can't see anything in the show that is inappropriate or anti-Biblical, so I can't say I agree with those who condemn the show. I hear neighsayers say sometimes that it somehow makes you gay if you watch it, but that's just a ridiculous argument. So yeah, I hope that helps a bit.And I capitalize Believers only because it's a synonym for Christian. It's not a big deal if you don't. Just trying to be specific! Also, I hope you don't think being a Christian is only about hell, fire and brimstone. It's waaaaay more than that! If you have more questions, feel free to ask!
Batbrony 16,089 January 4, 2013 Share January 4, 2013 (edited) I really have to ask, what do you guys think about your fellow believers condemning MLP as a thing of Satan? Huh... gotta say, I haven't heard about any church or denomination doing that. I don't doubt that it hasn't happened, but it's probably just the .00000000001% most extreme of evangelical whack jobs who'd fall into the Westboro Baptist category who express that opinion. Don't know how most other Christians feel about MLP (that is, if they know about it) but I imagine that if they don't know that much about the show, their reaction to bronies would be the same as anypony else's who isn't that acquainted with the show, that is, "Wait, teenage and adult guys watch My Little Pony? Well... that's certainly a strange bit of news. Whatever!" Then they probably just go on with their business. I mean, c'mon, people not acquainted with the show, including 99.9999999999% of the Christians out there, have far more important things to worry about than adults watching MLP. Zach TheDane 239 January 4, 2013 Author Share January 4, 2013 I'm one. Even though I love ponies a lot, I always put Jesus Christ above everything. The only I must say is, some Christians don't even act like Christians online. I couldn't have said it better myself! It's sad how "Christians" will praise God out of one side of their mouth and praise just awful things out of the other side. It really ruins our reputation and makes it hard to sound credible when people around us call us hypocrites. Brohoof to you, sir! I'd rather this either be, 1. be a separate topic on a new forum or 2. discussed in private messages because I don't want this thread to be over dominated with these types of discussions and it remain true to its actual purpose of introducing/welcoming Christian bronies. I want this to remain a welcoming environment. Actually, apologies to anypony offended by these somewhat off topic posts. Let's keep things on topic from now on. Thanks! I was wondering how to say this. I don't really want to get into a debate on this thread; I just wanted to connect with Bronies! If everypony would be so kind as to keep the thread on topic, that would be fantastic!

Churches that stand on the Word of God are pretty much the same regardless of the denomination. I've been to a lot of Protestant churches and the main difference is how they are organized--not what they preach. 3 UNICORN FAN CLUB: http://mlpforums.com/topic/113426-unicorns-are-the-best-ponies-fan-club/ NEW SILVERHOOF http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/new-silverhoof-r4429 Equestrian Physiology 101: http://mlpforums.com...physiology-101/
Zygen 6,066 January 5, 2013 Share January 5, 2013 (edited) Well, it was because of the magic. If I had to guess, I'd say it was similar reasoning as was used to call Harry Potter an evil witch. If it can be called reasoning, that is. Then there was another about propagating homosexuality, which was based on one of the reviews written by one of the more respectable show critics. I wish I remember the names. Rather unpleasant looking middle-aged woman. I'd say both groups were in the US, so most likely not catholic, but I'm honestly not sure, it was quite some time back. Either way, I doubt the actually watched it. Either way, I have to ask you, now that both you and I mentioned it, stance towards homosexuals? I just find this topic particularly interesting, because I kind of see some of the christian ideals conflicting with what is the community (in general) standing for, or represented as. Well to be fair I think only the extreamist Christians are going to be the ones to think of magic as evil.. Especially in a show. Actual magic or witchcraft is a different story, but magic in a TV show? Only the extremist's I think would want that kinda thing. Heck theres people saying that Skyrim promotes homosexuality, thats just probably one of the extremist churches, and I don't believe in really Extremism in any religion honestly, some people take religion to far. And actually I don't know many Christians who are against homosexuality, theres a few yeah, but honestly I think the whole thing is just dumb to oppose, and I think the fact that its stated in the bible is a misunderstanding. If you can't tell already btw I'm in support of Homosexuality. And gay rights and marriage, people are allowed to love who they want, I don't think thats my business, but just like regular relationships, there are some things they should keep to themselves. But yeah. There are some extream Christians, of all forms of Christianity, and I think they flat out take things to far. I forget the name of that church thats famous for being Anti Gay and stuff, yeah they're extreamist's heck they're hardly a Church in my opinion. I don't see in the bible where it says insult homosexuals and condemn them them hell. Even at their funeral. But anyways, I don't wanna start any debates. I just wanna keep things nice and clean and not have anything turn to ugly so i'd like to let everyone remember to keep that in mind . If you may . Envy 6,529 January 5, 2013 Share January 5, 2013 When I first watched MLP:FiM I was still a Christian, if that counts. In this final phase (which I mean as a distinct separate time, I was a non-believer before this phase, and am a non-believer after it) of being a Christian, I was very far removed from the church, though. My family has not gone regularly since like 2005. Of which, I am very grateful for. It allows me to be to be perfectly content with not coming out to my parents about no longer being a believer. I can say it also probably insulated that belief. I was never a fan of church. I never had any problems with any of the pastors I had; I just found church to be dreadfully boring and a waste of my time. Even with a pastor who was good at speaking. Anyway, I was... well technically still am... a member of a Methodist church. But in the end I found myself identifying as a "Progressive Christian" outside of any denominations. I had to reconcile my progressivism with being a Christian. I was a Christian in the last phase solely for comfort. So my morality was not going to change for any religion. Although I will say I wouldn't have ever changed my morality even if I had naturally turned back into a Christian. Just wasn't going to happen. Even back then I said that if this God is truthfully opposed to homosexuality, this God can not exist. But then again, I don't think we can go about changing our morality like that. Actually I don't even know why I wrote this... I was always a Progressive. I was never a part of any political churches, thank goodness. I think the most they spoke out against was casinos and other gambling. It's just that when I came back to Christianity that last time I wanted to set myself apart from the ...non-progressive Christians. Everything needs more woodwind! Shanks 10,817 January 5, 2013 Share January 5, 2013 Well, one of it has to do with the nature of divine works. People disagreed with Catholic Theology at first since Martin Luther argued that Salvation is by faith alone rather than through tradition and all that stuff with fancy rituals and indulgences (because he argued that indulgences were essentially buying your salvation). And he was half right, yes indulgences were an extremely corrupt practice where someone would literally be promised a get out jail free card into heaven if they gave money to the church. But the faith alone argument while an understandable reaction to corruption I don't think is the answer either. "14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[a] works, and I will show you my faith by my[b] works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[c] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[d] And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."~James 2:14-26 That is the one thing that being raised as a Catholic that has stuck with me more than anything else, though Catholics are not the only Christians that believe that as there are some protestant denominations that also believe agree with that. I see quite a few people that claim to have faith yet their actions do not show it, none of us are perfect but it is through trying to do the right things trying to help the poor, feed the hungry to seek justice for the oppressed that I believe we are most faithful. People think that God is only in the church when God should be in everything we do. Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Fender 1,284 January 5, 2013 Share January 5, 2013 To some Christians in here, I think if you'd like a good pastor to listen to from time to time (i.e. if you don't like going to Church), download some World of Life Church podcasts from iTunes. Pastor Brian Zahnd gives VERY interesting sermons, and he has always been incredibly......analytical of Christianity....I guess would be how to put it, he's really smart, definitely smarter than the average pastor. It would be cool to chat with like-minded people about the show! Straight up, like a hydra. I am a christian, and I am a brony. I find it a bit ironic that I'm a brony AND a christian because everyone thinks that we watch the show for sexual pleasure, but we don't. For most Christians sexual pleasure via media is frowned upon, so, it's actually kind of funny how twisted the truth gets. 1 Latest Drawing: http://mlpforums.com/topic/44024-happy-new-year-everypony-heres-my-gift-to-the-forum/ Latest pony I made: http://mlpforums.com/topic/60337-happy-mothers-day-everypony/ <img style="-webkit-user-select: none" src="http://i1330.photobucket.com/albums/w563/KyoshiLonehearted/HelpingTwilightwinthecrown-FullscreenHD-EquestriaGirls_zps5e6d428c.gif">
Zach TheDane 239 January 5, 2013 Author Share January 5, 2013 I seriously had never heard that people thought of bronies as perverts until you guys pointed it out. I guess that just goes to show how people react to things when we don't have all of the evidence. I imagine there are some so-called "bronies" out there who are twisted, but those types of people are always the first to be reported on.
