I guess either that scene in Hurricane Fluttershy, or in Canterlot Wedding. They both needed a hug ! I was upset that no pony believed Twilight.

Oh my word...  there have been so many scenes in this show that made me bawl like a little fawn/foal.  I'm not sure I can pick a single most sad one.

 

I cried...

when Rarity found Sweetie Belle's drawing,

when Twilight thought Celestia was dead,

when all Twilight's friends wouldn't believe her about "Cadance" and abandoned her,

when Scootaloo reveals her fear to Rainbow Dash,

when Fluttershy thought Philamena was dead (well, actually I guess she was for a few moments... and then came back to life),

when Cranky Doodle Donkey refuses to be Pinkie Pie's friend,

when Cheese Sandwich reveals his true backstory,

 

and probably at a bunch of others scenes that I can't remember right now, too.

Not just a scene, but an entire episode. Magical Mystery Cure is so heart-wrenching it's unreal. Starting at the beginning with Twilight's realization that she changed her friends destinies (I've Got To Find A Way), the scene of Celestia's Ballad, and her ascension to princess-hood. All of these scenes especially made my heart ache, even to today after I've watched the episode multiple times. 

 

God, that piano in Celestia's Ballad gets me every time I watch it. All aboard the feels train everyone. 

 

 

 

Also, honorable mentions to... 

 

- Fluttershy after she rotted out Pinkie and Rarity 

- Season 2 finale in the scene when Twilight accused Cadence and was scolded by all of her friends and family.

- Hurricane Fluttershy scene

- Pinkie after Cheese Sandwich took over party duties for Dashie.

I don't like watching this. It's been in my mind a lot and it's disturbing to the point where I want to resist watching it. I didn't think they would go this dark for this kind of episode. Basically Sweetie Belle ruins everything and Rarity loses it.

 

I am not a big Rarity fan. But we have all had that moment where we don't want to fail and I have sympathy for Rarity.

Like, I feel bad for the characters, but it's MLP so I know it will always work out really well in the end!

 

I feel bad at the time, but I'm still happy because I know its MLP .

 

It is quite dark, but then you know characters like Sombre and Cryssie where also quite dark! I don't think it goes over the top, I was really scared of 101 dalmatians cruela devil for years for how dark she was made in that film.

I really teared up on both the season 3 and season 4 finales.  They were amazing... I mean absolutely amazing.  Hearing the alicorns sing just gets me emotional.  It's so powerful. 

 

Btw, who do y'all think is your favorite singer of the alicorns?  I still don't know who I like more.  I think that as of now, I might like Cadence best, then it's a tie between Celestia and Luna - their voices are similar and sounded so great together when all 3 sang together in "You'll Play Your Part" - but something about Cadence's voice really gets me... idk.  I love them all.  And I mean, don't get me wrong, Twilight can sing, too, but the other 3 just have a certain higher talent for singing, in my opinion.

That is indeed a sad moment in the show, but it is very possible that what Sweetie Belle was experiencing was hyperbolic in nature. It is important to keep in mind that she may have still been in the dream world to some degree even though Luna had shown her some real-life visions, so her experience could have been altered by her own fears and expectation, especially in the absence of Luna. 
 
An occurrence in the episode that I feel backs up this possibility would be how the vision of the "present" Sweetie Belle saw was different than what actually occurred, even before she came in and took the headdress. 
 
Additionally, if Luna was at all modifying or even creating the vision Sweetie Belle saw, it is very possible that she would make it frightening and hyperbolic in nature in order to solidly get the point across.

FTTF - When Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon swayed Scootaloo to think that her not being able to fly was a big problem and caused her to almost sabotage everything.

Apple Family Reunion: How the shooting stars reflected on her deceased parents AND (God, this was a sad ep but it was so good) she tried so hard with the reunion but failed and the barn fell and everyone was so disappointed in her and she covered her face with her hat

 

Testing, Testing 1 2 3: This was pretty sad. I really enjoyed this ep because we see RD fail and she doesn't have the courage to get back up and she just wanted to give up. I found this episode extremely relatable to me, since I am extremely athletic and (not trying to brag) a track star and vball star named by my coaches so when I fail I have a hard time getting back up.

 

The Last Roundup: Dang, even the title is sad. She leaves her family which was unbelievable, she lost after always winning, and needs to earn money by working on a cherry farm thing!!!! AHHH so sad and relatable to me (look above)

 

 

Twilights Kingdom: Even though I thought this was a sucky season finale, the loss of the library dragged my heart out of my chest. That was unbelievably upsetting, I cannot believe they did that. But I guess they had to, since Hasbro needs money and masking Twilight a princess/alicorn AND ruining her castle AND getting a new one means more toys

 

There is also a Rarity episode, can't think of the name right now, but that was really sad how she wanted so badly to finish twilights dress but got caught up in her own life and gave her a dress so similar to the potato sack dresses on I Love Lucy (Kudos to you if you know what I'm talking about) and even though Twilight loves it, she is so disappointed in herself and is so ashamed when everyone finds out about her going back and fourth to two parties. This isn't as sad as the other ones I mentioned, but whatever, still reallly sad.

 

 

Soooo what are some more sad episodes/moments in your opinion? There are defiantly more, but this is really all I can think of right now.
