Title sums it up. Of all the albums released last year, which one would be your favorite? Aka, your AOTY.

Personally, my list is sort of split. But definite AOTY is Hop Along - Get Disowned.

But in terms of lists,

1. Hop Along - Get Disowned

2. An Autumn for Crippled Children - Only the Ocean Knows

3. Dads - American Radass

4. Pig Destroyer - Book Burner

5. Frank Ocean - Channel Orange

6. Death Grips - The Money Store

7. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Allelujah! Don't Bend, Ascend!

8. Ghost Mice - All We Got Is Eachother

9. Captain Murphy - Duality

10. Grimes - Visions

My favorite release of the year has to be Les Voyages de L'âme by Alcest. There was a few great releases in all sorts of different genres last year, but this one stood out the most for me.

And Neige's screams... DEM SCREAMS MAN.

My personal favorite would have to be L'Enfant Sauvage by Gojira.   I really liked a lot of albums this year, such as Helvetios by Eluveitie, Koloss by Meshuggah, and Dingir by Rings of Saturn, but L'Enfant Sauvage comes out on top.

So many great albums last year, but if I had to choose one it would be The 2nd Law by Muse. All the songs are good but you have Madness, Panic Station and Follow Me which just make the album fantastic.

Funny, I was listening to Ecailles De Lune the other day. Pretty good stuff.

Never understood the big love for Muse. Always felt as if they were trying to replicate In Rainbows a lot.

Ecailles De Luna is the only Alcest Album I don't own in my CD collection.

(Well, that and their

, but I think that's more of an EP anyway.)

I do however have a poster of the cover art on my wall I got about a year ago from one of their gigs.

I'm jealous man.  I'd love to see Alcest live.   By the way, how are they live?  They're certainly fantastic in the studio, but I haven't heard anything about their live performances.

Incredible. I was a bit concerned before seeing them because I watched a live performance on Youtube and Neige's vocals were off key, but he was great that night. They also performed with Dorneinriegh, Wodensthrone, and Eastern Front, so I was a happy very bunny. :P

Yeah, L'Enfant Sauvage was a really good one. I don't know why, but people generally didn't seem to like it. Whatever, I like their last three albums better than their first two. They're not going in the wrong direction at all.

For me, I'd say Billy Tallent - Dead Silence. The harshness in vocals are taken off of Ben, and put more towards their backing vocalist, Ian D'Sa. Big improvement over their last album, which I thought was pretty nice. Oh, and the album art has sharks in it!

Periphery II: This Time It's Personal

01. Muramasa
02. Have a Blast - Guthrie Govan guest solo
03. Facepalm Mute
04. Ji
05. Scarlet
06. Luck as a Constant
07. Ragnarok
08. The Gods Must Be Crazy!
09. MAKE TOTAL DESTROY
10. Erised - John Petrucci guest solo
11. Epoch
12. Froggin' Bullfish
13. Mile Zero - Wes Hauch guest solo
14. Masamune

It's not often that you come across a decent prog-metal album, so when I started listening to this album I was quite surprised at just how well made this album is. I would highly recommend this album to anyone that enjoys melodious guitar riffs and mixed screamo/clean vocals.

screamo

*growled.  Huge difference between screamo vocals, and growling.

Eh, I liked their first album more, ya know? The guitar playing seemed more lively, and the lyrics were WAY better. Though the vocals have improved.

That's tough. It's got to be one of these, maybe.

  • Koloss by Meshuggah
  • Periphery II by Periphery
  • Book Burner by Pig Destroyer
  • Eclipse by Veil of the Maya
  • Dingir by Rings of Saturn (the programmed drums sound decent this time around!)

I always have such a tough time coming up with a definitive BEST of anything.

There's probably something else really big that I missed too, but oh well.

Eh, I liked their first album more, ya know? The guitar playing seemed more lively, and the lyrics were WAY better. Though the vocals have improved.

I'm torn. Periphey I had much more technical playing and better lyrics, but Periphery II is alot more fun to listen to and has alot more memorable everything about it. *shrugs*

I'd say either ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! by Green Day. They're really the only band I like that I know released a new (Hell, 3) new albums during 2012. And they're all pretty good.

I am an uncultured dubstep fanboy, and so would have to say Sound of Dubstep 5. However, Animal Mineral Vegetable by Doctor P was a good release too.

And so after looking through the list of albums released in 2012

I have to say that it's a 3 way tie between

Deftones - Koi no Yokan

Deadmau5 - >album title goes here<

and Squarepusher - Ufabulum
