Not exactly solid. They were stacked on top of each other and she just knocked them down. I could probably do that, and I'm no muscle man.

 

Anyway, I've always looked at it as Applejack being stronger and Rainbow Dash being faster, making them more or less even in terms of overall athletic ability.

 

Applejack did stop the carriage as Mare-do-well, when Rainbow Dash couldn't. That's the best proof one way or the other, as far as I'm concerned.

AJ  i think is stronger in the body but

also a bit more in the mind.

But we aren't discussing how much force Dash can exert to topple something over by flying into something. We're comparing their physical strength -- meaning no wings to give you an edge. It's no secret that a speeding object would more likely shatter something completely as opposed to one of AJ's trademark bucks, come on. Why do you think Dash had it so easy in the Iron Pony competition?

I think Apple Jack is more of a strength thing while Rainbow Dash is more agility. Seeing as AJ works on a farm/orchard almost every day and she's always doing hard labor, I would think she'd be stronger. While RD is always zipping around and training to become faster.

Right on. Linebacker to a defensive end. There's not much to go on besides the other's a bit smaller but faster and likewise, the other isn't necessarily slow but use their big stature to make plays.

I always thought that AJ was the strongest. She lifts more and does alot of physical labor. Dash just sleeps all day with the occasional training of speed. Dash isnt shown doing alot of strenuous activities other than flying. AJ also has a buffer appearnce the Rainbow dash who looks dainty.

I would tend to think that pegasi, being built for flight, are lighter weight than earth ponies which would probably mean less muscle mass and lighter bone structure.

 

Based on that I would say AJ is probably the stronger of the two. Much of RD's strength would be in her wings, anyway (though she can sure give AJ a run for her money without them due to her SHEER AWESOMENESS!)

Ok so everyone here is familiar with the episode from season one, "Fall Weather Friends", but I have a question.  Who is the best athlete?  Since in the end of the episode they had a lesson about being a good sport, we never knew who was a better athlete.  Who do you think is more physically fit, Rainbow Dash or Apple Jack?  To this question I must answer Rainbow Dash.  Why?  She is amazingly strong and fast.  What does everypony else think?

I like Applejack, I do. I don't seem like the guy who does, but I do, okay I do.

But

Applejack is mostly hardworking and trying to make a living. She does have skills as an athlete, but it's possible that her work keeps her from improving her skills. If she had more time or practice she may be better

Rainbow on the other hand tries constantly to prove she is the best and will work at it until she has proven she is the best. Her tenacity and never give up attitude keeps her going and training.

So sorry AJ, but this point goes to Rainbow.

It really depends on what they're doing honestly. I mean obviously in a freestyle race Rainbow wins with wings, and even in a ground race Rainbow does pretty darn well. They're pretty neck in neck throughout the whole thing.

 

However in alot of strength related things, especially involving their back legs AJ wins hands down.

 

I think physically AJ is a better athlete, however when it comes to speed Rainbow might be a bit better. She overall just seems to move faster then AJ, especially with her wings.

I'd say they're equal. But when it comes to speed its no contest that RD is the clear winner if you count wings, although on ground they were just as equal on speed.

With strength, AJ wins without a doubt for the hind legs because of her years work of bucking trees. With the front legs, well that's different then xP It turns out that RD is stronger with her hooves than AJ if you watch this video:

Okay, that's definitely true. How about instead of speed, we say that Rainbow Dash has better agility. Compromise?

I just want to point out that arm wrestling isn't just about strength. A lot of technique goes into it too, so I wouldn't say Dash is stronger just because she won once.

 

Besides, they would normally tie in a hoof wrassle. If that's possible.

 

 

Back leg strength and overall strength goes to Applejack. AJ had little trouble pulling Rainbow towards the mud in the tug-of-war competition until Dash used her wings to fly upward making it so AJ couldn't possibly win. Rainbow was also out-muscled in the Mysterious Mare Do Well when she couldn't hold back the carriage bus, but Applejack stopped it with good old Bucky McGillicuddy and Kicks McGee.

 

As for pure athleticism, it's pretty close. I would give Dash an edge for the simple fact that she prides herself on being an athlete, so it's something that's a huge part of her life, and something that she's in constant practice and pursuit of. Applejack, on the other hand is a lot more busy running her farm, so she's has a lot less time to really put as much effort into being an athlete as Dash does. Despite that, she's just as accustomed to the competition life as RD is, what with being a ten time rodeo champion with more blue ribbons than any pony in Ponyville ever, according to Apple Bloom. She definitely has talent in those types of events.

 

Fall Weather Friends showed that the two of them both have events that they do better than the other, but when wings are a factor, Dash will win. Given that fact, Dash has a natural edge on a lot of sports. 'Tisn't fair being an Earth pony, but AJ can handle herself just fine without wings. She's the workhorse, and Dash is the athlete. Every pony has a place.

Rainbow's strength comes in majority from her wings. Applejack most likely can lift more and in generally stronger, especially in her legs because of what she does for a living.

Rainbow dash. Applejack is easily the second strongest, but let's break this down...

 

Applejack may work hard, and she is a very good athlete; but she's not on Rainbow Dash's level. Rainbow dash is a trained athlete on a professional level, she is much stronger than applejack.

 

Applejack would have stronger legs however, considering her years of apple bucking, but overall rainbow dash is the superior athlete.

 

Not to mention Rainbow clearly beat Applejack in a hoof wrestle.

You're joking, right? If anything, flight would take up more stamina than running. Rainbow is a trained athlete on a professional level, while Applejack is too busy with the farm to dedicate any of her time to serious training. There is a huge difference between a professional athlete and an occasional athlete.

Your title question is which is stronger but the voting is which is the better athlete.  Thing is I have different answers for both questions.  I think AJ is stronger simply by virtue of her earth pony nature.  I think RD is the better athlete however.

Rainbow Dash can break the sound barrier without passing out from the 9-12 g's of pressure on her entire body or even more amazing is the fact that she doesn't explode when she reaches the speed of sound. Why would you even consider Apple Jack even remotely close in strength?
